Ithaca is a fascinating creature this year.  Up and down offense this season.  Their defense showed up big today and they beat Buff State 7-0.

Brockport defeats Morrisville 44-20 in the predictable outcome bowl.

Alfred takes care of business against Utica, winning 35-21.

Fisher wins against Hartwick in a battle of the defenses, similar to the Ithaca/Buff State game.  Final score of 68-40.

Cortland killed it on the bye week.  Solid practices.

They missed an XP and had a short field goal attempt blocked.  They could have gotten to 72 with that.  They also decided to kick (and make) a couple of field goals on 4th and manageable inside the Wick red zone in the 3rd quarter.  I doubt Hartwick would have stopped them had they gone for it...their defense was so awful.  80 was within reach.

Has Hartwick ever been good at defense? This year they've allowed: 35 (lowest of year), 41, 38, 50, 50, 41, 61, 51, 68 . This averages to 48.33.... points per game. Yikes.

I'm trying to determine which Fisher QB had a better game.  Naton finished with 504 yards passing and 6 touchdowns on about 74% completion percentage.  That's not bad.

Fiutko was 1-1 for 21 yards and a touchdown.  So 100% passing.  He played a perfect game while he was out there.

Big day for Mayberry. AU secured a portion of the conference title, Alfred Almond advanced to the State semi-finals for boys soccer, and Alfred State secured their first win. Now, if only Pep hadn't try to fill one of his doe tags on the way to the game...
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

E8 Thoughts

Ithaca/Buff State: The Bombers went 5-0 at home in Mike Welch's final season. That's my takeaway from this game

Fisher/Wick: At times, you have to wonder if Hartwick's HC cares about the performance of his defense. I mean, I know some teams just have overall lousy programs, and are going to lose 55-3 every week. But Hartwick's not that kind of team. They've got some playmakers. But they've given up 50 points five times in six games. They've given up 60 twice. I just don't get how a program that clearly can find playmakers on one side of the ball can be so bad at the other for so long.

Fisher survives and advances. They need to play better to beat Alfred.

Alfred/Utica: Just another solid win by the Saxons. They don't have a lot of eye-opening wins (except against the dregs) but they're led by a great senior QB and are just getting it done. I think we'll finally see a 10-0 E8 team.

Brockport/Morrisville: Ugh, what happened to the Mustangs?

Wick/Fisher thoughts...

Naton was the one looking for revenge yesterday apparently. He was on a mission to run it up on Wick and it was impressive. He had around the same number of attempts as Hartwick did and I think I remember 3 passes of the 40+ that were off target. That was probably the most impressive passing effort by a Fisher QB ever. He was just deadly accurate.

That being said, wow Hartwick's defense might be the worst defense I have ever seen. Like as bad as a transitioning JUCO school playing their first season at D3 bad. On two of Coon's TDS it looked like Wick was playing Cover two and the DB didn't even jam him at the line. The DB let him off with a free release and the Safety couldn't get over top because Coon ran free at the line.

The ref on the Wick sideline was atrocious, flat out ridiculous that Reed can knock over Chamberlain on both a catch at the one and on a long TD. Chamberlain was in great position but Reed just flat out pushed him over before making those catches. Two gift TDs that make the score look worse for the defense who played ok. Don't get me wrong, Reed is very impressive that's for sure but he got away with those plays.

Going forward.

I don't think WR'S are going to be running free and open next week. The Fisher offense is going to be up against their biggest test. They need to play flawless because that AU offense is one that will just churn out yards on the ground and keep the clock running. The good news for Fisher is that they are 3-0 vs Johnson, the bad news is that Johnson isn't the turnover machine he was before this year.

I'd have Logory spy Johnson all game, you can't let him beat you with his legs. If he makes plays in the air so be it but keep him in the pocket!

Homer prediction 31-28 Fisher and both teams go to the dance!

I commented on the blatant offensive pass interference as well.  Like you, between that gift score and the garbage time scoring against backups didn't think the Fisher defense was all that bad yesterday.  Next week will be a different story.  Everyone knows we aren't good at defending the run and a mobile QB.  Alfred's offense should be in for a big game.  We can definitely win if our offense is up for the task as well.

Upstate

Yeah I'm all for letting guys play, but when a DB is on his ass after the WR runs directly through him or pushes him down then there is a problem...

If there ever was a week where Fisher's Defense is needed it's this one...

Stack the box and make Johnson beat you with his arm...

Hey Upstate, you watch a lot of the Fisher games and know the intricacies of football much more than I do...why doesn't the defense do more press coverage with the cornerbacks and have the safeties help over the top?  I rarely see a wide receiver get separation from 7 and 17...but there are so many times a game where they will back off the receivers and give them 5-7 yards of cushion.  It's an easy pass off a quick throw by the QB.  Puts the defense in 2nd or 3rd and short where our suspect run defense comes into play.

Seems to me that pressing their receivers puts more responsibility on the strongest part of our defense, will potentially give the D-line more time to pressure the QB, make those easy gimmie throws not so easy, etc.

May it some day carry through to the semi-finals.

A collective E8 aww shucks and +k to you.  I think Fisher is planning a return to the semi-finals to commemorate their last trip there in 2006.  A nice 10 year anniversary salute if you will.  The last 3 trips to the quarterfinals since 2006 haven't been as kind to Fisher.

fisheralum91

Boob,
Here is hoping that takes place!

Quick take from Saterday - Mrs 91 wanted Fisher to hit that PAT for the 69 ala Rob Gronkowski..... ;D
The Fisher D played pretty well- not on paper, but the Offensive Pass Interference calls that were non calls were laughable.
What caught my eye was the fact that the WILLS got it going on!   Collichio too of course but the one thing that emanated in my brain was---holy crap this team is going to be amazing NEXT YEAR too!
Blake and Coon are just beasts and the rest of the underclassmen give every reason that the future of Fisher football is bright!

Next week the D line needs to be stout and force the pass....Alec and DJ need to be on point

Fisher in a nail biter ---------21-17 over AU

Dont laugh...I wanted Fisher to throw 70 on 'Wick and...........
