Brockport has touched down in TX. Hope they get some good BBQ in them (but stash away a few chicken wings to remind them of where they came from), enjoy the fine weather (it will clear up, no ?), and polish off some pecan pie. Looking forward to the game and seeing all these incredible athletes UMHB has that will supposedly shut down every single Brockport athlete (that means their D will shut down Germinerio, Morrison, the entire OL, all those athletes Brockport has at WR like Hubbard, Brown, etc.) They must be huge and incredibly fast at every position. Their OK offense will of course, instantly run all over Brockport's DL and Lbers and just hit on all their passes both short and deep , all the while having stellar pass protection. Twill be a sight to see such a team) I am preparing my eyes for this juggernaut.

Just so you know, the Cru defense has given up 16 points so far in the playoffs.  Sometimes you have to have a realistic idea as to who you are playing and a realistic idea of how good your team is.  Linfield has a pretty good offense according to the stats and they scored 0.  St. Thomas also looks good on paper and they scored 10.  I get your excitement for Brockport making it this far, but you need to find a modicum of respect for a team that has been here many times before and won the whole thing last year.

First of all, my post does not indicate a lack of respect of UMHB. It is the reverse. It is in more in response to those like DLIP, who think Brockport be "whipped behind the woodshed and ****ing spanked like a red headed step child". Not saying it can't happen, but I'm looking for a rational reason other than UMHB is the defending Stagg Bowl champs and has a national rep. Brockport is not like a Hartwick, who wows you with big offensive numbers and then when you see them in person, they have small dumpy linemen, a small QB, etc, basically they fail the eye test. I don't think you can look at Brockport physically and say they fail the eye test, they have size, and speed and athletes at about every position and a very good kicking game as well. That's why the snarky comment about how big and fast MHB is. In order to completely negate what I think is pretty physically impressive team in Brockport that you have to be pretty overwhelmingly physically superior, not just better. For a blow out.
Also according to you Linfield has a pretty good offense, but I see they are ranked 176 on offense, which is solid, but not great (they don't even pass for over 200 yards a game). Brockport is 21st in total offense. I would say much better. Linfield is 7th on defense. Looks like that defense is the main reason for their success, much like MHB. So statistically Brockport is even or better than UMHB. The Cru score a lot, but don't have ton of yards per game. Guessing a lot of short fields.
So my post is more in response to comments about Brockport being blown out or embarrassed. I'm just trying to figure out what that would be based on...for some it is just a feeling. For me, I'm clinging to my stats and physical attributes to say the game will be close. It was snarky and and sarcastic, but it was response to other comments.  Just trying to picture how such a blow out would occur. My post shows the things that would have to happen.

I'm not generally one to get on here and bang my chest about UMHB. To be totally honest i get too emotionally involved and really put my BP meds to the test during the playoffs, but i would like to respond to you.1st let me ask what you know about the ASC or texas football in general? Do you realize that with only a few exceptions every team they play has a high scoring offense (HSU 42.2/ game - 7 vs UMHB, etbu 49.6 - 21 vs UMHB; LC 37.8 -20 vs UMHB, TLU 35.7 - 7 vs UMHB & in playoffs Chapman 35.2 scored 6 Linfield 25.9 scored 0, STU 47.2 scored 10) UMHB has lbs and dbs that swarm quickly to the ball. if a catch is made there's rarely much in the yac column. For running teams,  team speed generally shuts down sweeps. most teams that find success, find it up the middle, but running through the dline is no easy task. most of the yardage given up all season has been given up in the 2d half against 2d and 3d teamers. For brockport to find offensive success they need to throw quick short routes and take the few yards UMHB will give up there. UMHB rarely blitzes, the from 4 are that good, and because they usually control the LOS, the dbs and lbs can bottle up receivers. We'll have to see about the offense, but CR3 is quick and accurate. he can run but looks to throw 1st. TJ Josey is very talented, fast and runs good routes. Wilkerson is fast, has good hands, and good vision. there are 3 good running backs that if they get the second level, you're reading numbers to the end zone. I don't have the courage to call the blowout. i expect a very good football game and. won't breathe until there is a 2 or 3 score gap, but there are plenty of reasons for people that follow the cru to anticipate or predict a game that gets away from brockport.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

The level of athlete at the very top of D3 is quite a bit different than what BP is used to seeing.   The final score will be function of how quickly BP can adjust, if at all, to the speed of the MHB defense.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

The initial quote was said tongue and cheek to touch on the reality of the difference between the top tier of D3 teams compared to the other tiers of D3 football. However, with that being said dlip feels that some just don't "get" or want to "get" it. This is dlip's second failed attempt at humor this week (the other was against Pat who thought dlip was being serious). With that said dlip still feels Brockport will be defeated soundly on Saturday. This is based on the last time an East Region team defeated a top tier D3 team in the playoffs...which dlip can't really even remember.

How did Frostburg just match up with UMU? We also hang our hats on SJF's 2006 performance against UMU. Which was impressive and dlip loved every minute of it, however that game STILL felt like SJF was pushing the boulder up the hill for 4 quarters. All dlip is saying is we need to be realistic (and we can have some fun with it as well).

Believe dlip, like he has said before he hopes he is wrong, very wrong this year. He is rooting for Brockport almost as much as he'd be rooting for his believed Union. Seriously. It's just a whole different ball game now as so many other have pointed out. dlip would love nothing more than to eat crow up the yin yang come Saturday. He just doesn't think he will is all...

The wide open style of play is routine in Texas High School Football.  Gaudy offensive numbers are common.

Look at where D-1 comes to find QB's

Auburn QB Jarrett Stidham -- Stephenville (TX) High School
Ohio State QB J T Barrett -- Wichita Falls (TX) High School
Alabama QB Jalen Hurts -- Channelview (TX) High School
Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield -- Lake Travis (TX) High School

I am really looking forward to this game matching the East Region. The only 2 previous playoff games by a Texas team versus an East Region opponent came in 2013 against UMHB, Rowan 59-8 and SJF 45-23. (Wesley was South Region back in the day.)

I too will be rooting for Bport (the whole 91 fam will) out of sheer respect for the league and region.
Will I be disappointed if they lose- sure.
Do I expect them to win- no.

Its that small glimmer that they...could....
They got there and the whole region is proud.

small factoid about UMHB school colors. As you might know, a certain sister school 45 minutes north, Baylor University founded under the same charter by the republic of texas in 1845, has Green and Gold as its school colors. UMHB has purple, gold and white. UMHB has these colors because the were the cooors for the senior class, back when each class had its own colors. don't remember the right order but the classes were green/white, green/gold, purple/ white, and purple gold and white. The senior song, Up With the Purple's first line is "Up with the purple, the gold, and the white"

very cool fact--but is the senior class literally what it sounds like as in  F,S,Jr,Sr
Or was it a societal class ala nobility

Here is a pretty good video created by Linfield players who visited the Cruthedral, it'll give ya an idea what your young men will see. Enjoy, I hope their experience is excellent! I hope the surroundings and settings bring the very best out of both sides and athletes.

Toby, good to see that you still hang around.  Been awhile since my visit to you guys, the high school field is nothing like the current field.  Hope all is well.
all is well. we actually moved back into the area from Abilene last year so i get to make more games. 😁 it would be great to see y'all back this way
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.
