I don't mind disagreeing if we put some parameters around our definitions so we're talking about the  same thing.

Personally I don't think 5 is enough, maybe 10 and something like a brawl on the field or multiple ejections by both sides.  Big crowds can be deceiving to me as evidence.  Competing for top spot IMO should be more in the decade type range even if it's not every year but matters to both sides each year.  Closeness of schools seems irrelevant in an aW world where conferences are aligned by geography to a large extent and are you telling me IC and SJF are alike culturally or academically?  The admin clearly didn't hunk so given more than one attempt to jump to the LL.

None of this diminishes some good games, I just think it was premature to define it as such and the next 5-10 years will beat that out.

honestly not that different as much as some of us IC folks like to put on airs; the rest of the LL views us as a jumped up community college they had their arm wrenched into admitting to the league...and I have it from good sources that Fisher really, really, wants out of the E8 into the LL and thinks they have the academic rankings to justify it. I imagine the presidents might disagree.

We have RIT and uRoch, i suspect alfred would come in prior to sJF.  That aU-SLU trip would suuuuck though.

ITH radio

Sjf was supposed to play Hobart this season but backed out. If they want in, they should probably honor scheduling deals with LL teams first.

Up front admission, this is not my expertise, but LL let in Buff State for AQ reasons, not academic. Is that correct?

pumkinattack

Absolutely.  Had actually stayed no state schools for many years but when MMA and WPI (the matter more Disappointing since hey have a historic "rivalry" game w RPI) we needed a stopgap, kind of like Frostburg and sals.

ITH radio

SC left also. Having to replace 3 teams, not to mention needing at least one team to join the LL to preserve the AQ, made anyone welcome to apply for the opening. To be fair, SUNY school's like Buffalo are reasonable competitive, admissions wise. Last year, their admit rate was 58% which is actually lower than Hobart's, but HWS avg stat scores are about 300-350 pts higher....

correct, and very specifically ONLY for football b/c Buff State has its forever home in the SUNYAC. Fisher wants in as a full member.

"Very selective" vs "moderate".  Graduation rate of 80% vs 45%.  I think it is fair to say that there is a different applicant pool between the two schools.  However, nobody asks what was your high school GPA, before knocking heads on the field.

pumkinattack

State schools have seen a rising tide in applicants due to the cost disparity w private's growing..  10-15yrs ago UGA and UF were dogs for the most part, now are considered really strong schools.  But classes are growing and individual attention lessening, sat metrics and selectivity generally has improved vis a vis all but the top 15 private liberal arts and universities (separate rankings).  Most recent ranking have also seen some big movement between the more highly esteemed liberal arts schools in the NE and SE like a Centre or Suwanee which reflect the migration trenda

ITH radio

Agree. One of my kids is looking at schools in the SE and it's interesting to see how they market themselves by comparison to the NE schools I pretty much exclusively looked at.

End of day, BSC joining was purely a football / AQ driven one.

Another win for Fisher this weekend, but another game that makes you scratch your head. Fisher really struggled with TCNJ for 2.5 quarters, and were down 16-5 well into the 3rd, when they rip off 5 straight touchdowns and win 40-16. Offensively Fisher could not get anything going, and the announcer was talking about putting in the back up QB (who was warming up on the sidelines) before they go on a huge tear in the late 3rd/4th. Defensively Fisher had 2 more picks (I believe that is 9 in 3 games to lead D3).

It's a weird team this year for Fisher. Next week is Ithaca with both teams, assuming IC finishes off AU, at 3-0. Like old times.
GO FISHER!!!

Fisher was down 16-5 with I believe a little under a minute to go in the 3rd quarter...ended up winning the game 40-16.  Touchdown right before the end of the 3rd and then 4 touchdowns in the 4th quarter.  After a pretty excruciating first half that was nice to see.  Good defensive adjustments and the offense came alive towards the end.

Let's hope the momentum continues next week as they travel to take on Ithaca.

I guess IC would be 2-0 with the bye week last week.

Agreed on that.  Definitely some talent but they just struggle to put it together consistently.  Which will burn you against the top teams.

There's 31 penalties for 295 yards in the Brockport/Buff State game!!
