going to check out the fisher springfield game today, and to ithaca next week for the ithaca springfield game. Excited for these next two weeks as most likely the results of these two games will put two teams in the playoffs and one team staying home. Go bombers!

I will be the Devil's advocate.  Lets go Springfield.  I am not a fan on this upstate New World Order.  I was much more comfortable with Ithaca being the measuring stick and Buff State / Cortland State being in the mix.  Fisher and Alfred, who could have guessed 10 years ago.

I've only been to Alfred and the surrounding area once. I'm not a big fan of the "Highlands." While they are certainly beautiful, the upper elevations not only get early snow but also get some nasty summer storms. After I was there two summers ago, one of the cement bricked dugouts at Alfred State was turned to rubble after a particularly bad storm. I remember just driving to Alfred and Hornell there were lots of hills and the bus had trouble getting up the hills around Alfred.

And it's funny you mention the Subway at the gas station. I have actually been to that particular establishment. I was doing play-by-play for a summer baseball team. The team had a game at Alfred State at like 1:00 pm and when we left the hotel, there wasn't really much in the way of food near the hotel. We ended up eating at the Subway at the gas station and being there for upwards of an hour. It got to the point where it was noon and the other team sent their coaches out to find us because no one had showed up for batting practice. To make matters worse, there was one girl working at the Subway and about 25 of us. Poor girl. Probably wanted to jump off a cliff when we walked in.

We ate at a fancy-type restaurant that night though I don't remember the name. I must say that I don't think I've been to a place like that where there was so little to eat.  Sounds like there are restaurants but when you're on a big school bus, its hard to find those little, out of the way places.

Yes, John, that Subway isn't the best managed place....you'd have been better off at Alfred Sub & Pizza Shop. Summer is dead in Alfred so some of the restaurants just close up.

Which baseball team were you with? Alfred had the A's for a few years, while Hornell has the Dodgers. Our A's, playing way up on the State campus on the hill, didn't get much for crowds, the park being so out-of-the-way. That dugout was victim of a tornado that went through here. You'll have that once in a great while.

Alfred....not the end of the earth, but you can see it from here.
