Utica has a very strong passionate fan base. Their fan club is called the 12th Man and puts out some funny videos... https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=454288964030545 ...It would be great if someone representing that base would contribute on this forum. Maybe "Moose Hogan"?...Union opens against the Pioneers on Friday 9/6 and we haven't heard from the Moose so I guess I'll do it. I will be attending that game. I do know that they had a trip back in May where they traveled to Ottawa, Canada to play a club team called the Sooners. the Pioneers outclassed them 48-6. Coach Blase Faggiano has big expectations. https://www.wktv.com/sports/utica-university-football-is-back-at-practice-and-looking-to-build-upon-recent-success/article_f7ddbd06-5a93-11ef-a460-6bb0609b2095.html

Heard from a coworker that the Utica JV beat Erie CC in the JV opener. Also saw Cortland JV beat Ithaca 23-9. Can't believe the season is here!

Iadevaio's injury, like all injuries, sucks.

But man, Cortland is really thin at WR now. You're now asking Andrew Tarpey to be WR1, and while he showed some flashes last year — including 3 catches for 39 yards against Grove City and 2 for 68 against Utica...you're making a big leap from being 4 to 1. And look, maybe Cortland's got some guys ready to step up. Great programs do. But that is a really tough loss.

Will be interesting to see how the Red Dragon offense evolves this year minus Burgess and Laap. Coach Fitzpatrick has an innovative offensive mind. I think back to what he was able to accomplish at Mooville! As with any program that loses key personnel, adjustments must be made and opportunities arise for others to fill the voids that are left. Everyone talks about the Cortland offense, and rightfully so based on previous years, but don't overlook the defensive side of the ball. The front seven in particular return with a bunch of experience and will be relied on more to create stops and get those coveted turnovers. Should be an interesting year and we'll see if the gap has been closed in the Empire Eight!

When I watched Cortland-Brockport, I was stunned by how much better Cortland's D-line was to Brockport's O-line

This is how I see it, too.  I'm delighted to be wrong and Zac Boyes is Superman, but I actually see an 8-2 kind of year for Cortland.

FWIW I believe they moved Alfano St. John to WR, so suspect he'll be WR1, but still.

Which puts sophomore Tyson Taylor (who averaged 6 YPC last year) as RB1

I still think Cortland goes 10-0, but I do not see them winning by 40-50 points each week

It's an interesting move, because St. John, while obviously an elite player, is not especially productive catching passes out of the backfield — though maybe that's what being loaded at WR does for you. Athletes are athletes though, so I'm sure he'll be fine.

Just a joke of an opening sequence by the Cardinals.

They receive the ball after the opening kick off goes out of bounds. Get to 4th and a half yard at their own 44.5 yard line and proceed to chicken out and punt the ball.

Good news is that it was downed at the 1 yard line.

Bad news is that Marietta throws an 84 yard pass on 1st down.

3 plays later it's 7-0 Marietta.

Same old, same old. Only now the Coaches aren't getting bailed out by having better players.

Recruiting has taking a huge step backwards and the coaches can't coach their way out of a paper bag.

Another sub .500 season coming...

FisherFaithful03

Fisher can't block anyone as their QB can't even get to top of his drop before there's pressure in his face and they can't get pressure on the opposing QB...

It's not a recipe for success...

They're allowing 10 yards a play while SJFU is getting 2 yards a play...

Down 14-0 after a methodical 70 yard drive by Marietta

FisherFaithful03

Fisher down 20-0 with 2 minutes left in the half...

QB is 6/7 with 32 yards passing...

They're averaging .5 yards a rush... not 5.0, 0.5...

Just ugly...

FisherFaithful03

First half recap...

Down 27-0

Just lifeless...

Zero speed on offense, zero spacing, zero ingenuity or creativity. Why exactly are you running a double tight offense when you can't run the ball? You're not scaring anyone with play action. You're making yourself a hell of a lot easier to defend with two tight ends...

Just lifeless...

Mismatch of epic proportions ......STOP this fight ....soon!! Though down-the-liners will appreciate playing time ....now.

At the half: Cortland 56, Hilbert 0.

Final: RDragons 76, Hilbert 0.

Hilbert doesn't attempt a pass .....has one first down that comes via penalty in the fourth quarter. Corts use four  QBs ....Boyes 10x12, 2TDs  passing and done at intermission. QB S. Otremba who played at Hamburg's St. Francis HS field where game was played, scores final CSt TD

FisherFaithful03

Fisher has had the ball for 17 minutes so far...

They have 46 yards of offense...

FisherFaithful03

Fisher has 4th and 1 at midfield and the QB runs into a sack, turnover on downs...

Next play the secondary is confused at the snap and allow a 40 yard pass...

Next play another busted coverage and the RB leaks out of the backfield for a wide open TD pass...

41-0 Marietta with about 5 minutes left in the 3rd...

Time for a change...

Can't wait for Cortland to hang 70 on Fisher...
