Frank Rossi posted this over on the LL board, and it certainly comes in handy:

For those wondering...The Empire 8 actually has a somewhat cogent tiebreaker.  From the League's SID, Tim Farrell:

The following criteria will be used to determine the E8's NCAA automatic qualifier:

(If a tie exists among three or more teams and one of the tied teams is eliminated by this process, the process will begin anew at No. 1 of the tie-breaking criteria among the remaining tied teams).

1. Head-to-Head results.

2. Results vs. lowest ranked conference teams (7th, 6th, 5th, etc) based on final season standings.

3. Results versus common non-league opponents

4. The team's overall quality of win index (as determined by the NCAA procedure used at the completion of the season)

5. Overall record

Oh thank goodness someone has found out what the answer to the question of 10 pages is!  + K max, best post you have had!

Basically this means a 3 way tie results in QOW being the deciding factor as SC-IC-SJF would all have beaten the remainder of the teams in the league for their to be a 3-way tie.

I  suppose the only possible way to IC to get the AQ is to win out, then have SJF lose to Alfred or Utica.  That would leave Alfred-IC-SC all with 1 E8 loss but, IC would have the head-to-head over both.

Why am I doing this?  I hate playing out scenarios.

max and tags,

I did see Spgfld beat AU and know how frustrating it is.  I was/am hoping the other E8 teams who have been scouting , would come up with something different defensively.

Once again, I go back to my "old days" when I saw Coach Yunevich play a 5-3.  Again, I would think you don't need any double coverage on the receivers and athletic LB's can respond to the fullback, while still helping contain the outside threat.  It would be something different.

Sharpe has passed 3.2 times / game and averages 0.42 TD passes/game.
And I think 2 interceptions for the season from 22 attempts

I don't know if the rumor iis true but Coach Y has been attributed to originating the 5-3.  Can you help me out there PepBand?

I think most teams do something different against SC.  The most common adjustment I remember Welch and Raymond making was sitting the starting FS and replacing him with another SS or LB.  I think teams effectively prepare for the scheme but, it is hard to prepare for the deception.

Actually, if IC wins out and Fisher loses to Alfred or Utica then IC would get the AQ since Alfred would then have 2 conference losses.  If Springfield wins on Saterday, then the SJF and IC games at Alfred should decide the E8 pool C qualifier.

And if you want a PepBANDana, stop by the AU Pep Band tent at Merrill Field any of the next 3 Saterdays.

I think we should start planning an "IC Does Vegas" trip for next March. The possibilities would be endless. Some early ideas for chants.

It will be real interesting to see how AU plays both SJF and IC after playing Springfield so close. With no common non-conference opponents, and after beating Utica and Wick as badly as anyone else, there is no real barometer to where AU stacks up in the E8 (unless you ask Utica's announcer the raging bull, who says that the top level is SC and SJF, and the next level is IC and AU, which I think is donkey dung). To be honest, if both Alfred and IC come away from the weekend with wins, I would be hard pressed to say that any of the top four E8 teams are legitimately better than any other.

realistic

a little behind here (meetings to start the day)

I have to say, I agree with Max's skepticism about this weekend.  A SJF D that shut down IC in the second half got lit up by Sharpe....this makes me nervous.  That being said, I stand by my earlier statement of IC being one of the (if not THE) only D in the region that has seen the Springfield option enough to be very prepared for it.

Stop it twice and IC wins.

If it's going to come down to turnovers, someone tell Donovan, Baez and Juvan to borrow some of Kenny Rogers' pine tar and slather their hands with it.

If the weather is even half as bad as predicted this week and on Saterday, then I think there will be a few turnovers each way.

I agree with you Max.  I think it comes down to execution for any of these four teams.  From an AU perspective I'm just hoping that the Fisher game still means something for Alfred.  That would mean I'd get to watch an exiting game each of these next three Saterdays.

Yeah, this Saterday is the last weekend I will see a game until IC hosts Fisher the week after Cortaca. Here's hoping it's a good one, and a win for your Bombers.
