gobombers 15,

You are right about not worrying about the polls.  It seems to me that all year, the consensus of E8 posters was that it is the W's and L's.

Although, one would think the poll voters, seeing an unexpected game result, may be wise enough to give it serious consideration instead of just making adjustments to the previous opinions.

Best wishes,

GB15, what are you doing here? You said you were done posting here till next season if Ithaca lost......

TASTE IT

Reno, go back and check what I said. The statement I made was I'd stop posting if Union's defense held Ithaca's offense to 24 points or less. Considering the Bombers had 23 at half, I should say I was probably correct in assuming Ithaca would be able to put some points up.

Later, when someone asked if I'd really be able to stay away, I said if Ithaca lost I'd really have no reason to post on the football boards, so I'd be ABLE to stay away. This, of course, was assuming Ithaca scored 24 or less and lost. If I wanted to stop posting, I certainly could. In fact, now that Ithaca's season is over, you will probably see less and less of me as the playoffs wind down. That said, my statement they'd score more than 24 or I wouldn't post again was never really in doubt. Good luck to Union and Hobart for the remainder of the season.

Gro thought he would really enjoy talking smack after the LL sweep... but maybe Gro is a little older and wiser than he used to be.

Fact is, USNY put 4 teams in the playoffs from 3 conferences. Of course the NCAA matched them up to save on travel, but 2 teams proved their worth on saturday. So...

1. The LL was the better conference THIS YEAR.
2. All this talk about a super NY conference can go out the window.
3. As long as the E8 & LL meet up in the playoffs lets also stop bitching about scheduling!

Gro,
Good call on this. I do agree that in 2005, the LL was the best conference between the two. However, that could definitely change, and I think it will  :D (hey, I'm biased).
I like the idea of a SUPER NY conference, but unfortunately it would never work because the schools are so different in its populations: gym teachers, wine and cheese eaters and drinkers, engineers, Syracuse cousins, the FDC, candle 'Wick(s), Fish, guys that make pottery (Alfred, for those who don't get the joke) and the little service academies.

Third, I hope that Utica gets a playoff berth next year, maybe even the ECACs. One can dream for nine months, no?

Bobby is predicting a very close game, but gives Union the edge 28-24.

If Ithaca only scores 24 points or less against Union's sieve defense, Gobombers15 will never post on the football post patterns again. Book it.

Reno, would you like a little Shiraz or maybe a nice Chardonney with your words.

Rather than giving him wine with his whine, we should supply him with some brie or muenster. Perhaps a sharp cheddar.

Alfred guys, don't worry about the rankings. The Saxons had a great season capped off by a huge victory in a postseason game. We all know Alfred should have made the postseason--Pat said he was dumbfounded by the fact they were not in the field-- and that should be worth more than any ranking or amount of votes can provide. Alfred is truly and up-and-coming squad and should be expected to compete for the E8 title next year(home games against both Fisher AND Ithaca) as well as a post-season berth.

Speaking of which, 2006 should be a fun year in the E8 for football. Ithaca will be reloaded but is forced to replace Felicetti and Espo, among others. Fisher loses Fehrenbach. Alfred returns many of their core players. Utica should continue to improve. Springfield will certainly be better than they showed this year and will build on the improvement they saw in the second half of the season. Hartwick will put up a million points and if they can get ANY defense should have a chance to upset some teams. Norwich can put a scare in some teams, too. I'm pissed we have to wait another nine months until football season.

Oh well, I'll see some of you guys over on the basketball boards. It's nowhere near as fun as football because we lose a lot!! Just accept our mediocrity and everything will be easier.

Looking forward to 2006 already. What's a pep band to do when football season comes to an end? While I haven't seen the final AU schedule for '06, I understand that we'll revive the Hobart series and will also pick up Thiel again. Saw the foundation of the Tomcats' successful program being built back when AU was a member of the PAC. And maybe pick up an OAC opponent--but not Mount Union--yet! Probably dropping Case, W&L (long trip) and Grove City. Would have liked to see the Saxons against Union or RPI or Hobart this year, although the Saxons did scrimmage at Hobart.

I agree with you, gb15, 2006 will be an interesting year for E8. Although I think you will all agree that the E8 will miss Brenton Brady.

As for basketball, were my son playing for AU, I'd probably be posting there, too. Suffice it to say I'm just an exited E8 fan looking forward to the first Saterday in September 2006.

GO AU!!

I love how you guys are mentioning wine. GB15 went on his first ever wine tour today to celebrate Mrs.GB15's receiving her doctorate in Physical Therapy. GB15 had never been on a wine tour in his four years in the CNY but made it out today(vacation day from work) and kind of enjoyed it. GB15 enjoyed it even more when, on the ride home, Mrs. GB15's friends decided to start flashing the entire limo. Let's just say it was enjoyable.

Just so you know, guys, Union grads are pretty money. I had NEVER met a Union grad until Saturday night(go figure, right?!) but they were both pretty cool people. The dude and myself won twelve straight games of beer pong. It was definitely good times and really made me like the Union faithful way more.

Again, good luck to Union and Hobart, rep the Upstate NY well, guys!
