The Truth 00

i also understand that alfred and norwich are 2 different places and the ecac assigns officials to games but those officials are also assigned to different areas within the northeast. i guess what i'm trying to say is don't go into a game hoping the officials will call it well because you don't know what to expect with those guys.  oh crap, i hope my karma doesn't get zapped.

this is all a theory, a well-thought out one obviously.

call me crazy but i'm a believer in those boondock teams getting the advantage with the refs.....although in this case, its 2 western new york teams so that might not make a difference and you may think i'm an idiot but i'll give you guys an example.  lets go back 2 years to 2004 (fisher fans, this is gonna hurt) fisher vs norwich in the backwoods of vermont. anyone who's ever been there knows that might be an understatement. anyways, with 1 minute left, fisher gets picked (i'll complain about this in the next paragraph). well norwich gets the ball at their own 30, converts a 4th down, then has one last play up their sleeve from the 50 yard line. hail mary down the right sideline to pierre garcon, who catches it at the 3 yard line and his forward progress stops him at the 2 - 1 1/2 yardline....well more than 3 feet from the endzone.  touchdown! fisher loses on a BOGUS call. i've played games up there have never seen one good crew.

you guys feeling me a little on this??  anyways, fisher should have never thrown the ball in the first place in that situation. norwich had no timeouts and the fisher qb got put in a bad situation on 3rd to throw, when they could have run the ball, ate clock, set up the punt and pinned norwich into their own territory with a 80 yards to go and 30 seconds....and no timeouts! ok, that was 2 years ago and could be considered a coaching blunder but whatever.

So, Fish fans, the refs played no role in Fisher over IC in 2004 BUT are the reason Fish lost to 'Wich the same year?

Hello Truth,
I have attended each home game this season (and the last 8 year's worth) and have never seen any indication that AU gets any referee home field advantage.

Go Saxons on SatUrday!!!!!!!!!!

fisheralum91

this was too good not to post....

http://www.ithaca.edu/ithacan/articles/0611/09/news/0ithaca_co.htm

I caught that story as well this morning realistic.  Who's an idiot?  If guessed the kid selling booze out of his dorm room that gave an interview to the campus paper you are correct.

realistic

yeah - I'm trusting the Ithacan to keep their sources secret and risk getting into trouble for it.

Beyond that....even the dumbest RA out there can put two and two together of "Wow there are a lot of kids going in and out of Billy's room on thursday, then there was the photographer, and now there is this article in the Ithacan"  hmmm...

the campus safety guy was right, he should quit while he's ahead.  buying a case of beer for a friend or a younger sibling was one thing in college.....$1000 worth of booze being sold out of you dorm room is another.

The Truth 00

college isn't like it used to be boys, thats for sure. at least the kid isn't selling illegal substances (who knows, he might have that market covered too)

saxontad, then i stand corrected. jose, i know nothing about the fisher-ithaca game in 04 in regards to the referees.  fill me in. any fisher fan knows what happened in northfield, vermont in 04. that was probably the worst piece of officiating i've seen in my years of watching football. it wasn't great coaching either, as i alluded to in one of my previous posts.

You know nothing of the phantom interception that ended the game in double overtime?  I wasn't there so I cannot comment on the call but, apparently the ball Felicetti threw hit the ground and was picked up on a hop by the Fisher defender.

There is really no reason to go into any more detail because we went through it all during Fish-IC week this fall.

I will preemptively say that I only brought it up because of the complaint about the Norwich game and, I know, IC still would have had to score on 4th down.

The Truth 00

ah ha, now i do. thanks for the refresher...and that was a bogus call but you're right, you would have still had to score. the refs took away the opportunity.

jose, i wasn't complaining, trust me. i was just saying in general that it was an atrocious call.

i don't see the AU vs SJF game being a shootout or a blowout. it will be close up in the friendly confines of merrill field and i'd have to say the zebras will be to the advantage of the saxons. wow, only 1 more day until i make some predictions.

It's been AUPepBand's experience that there's no such thing as "hometown refs" at Merrill Field. Over the years, refs seldom have given the homeys a break. Can cite several examples but won't elaborate.

Nevertheless, the fumble call on IC's Kelly Gordon at the AU 2-yard-line was questionable. AU certainly got a break on that call. If Gordon steps on line with possession of ball, the play is dead. If he's separated from the ball before going out of bounds and the ball remains in the field of play and AU recovers, then ref made the right call. Could not see it but Gordon's dad says his son said he was out.

Early in the game, the ball was bouncing Ithaca's way much like it did for Hobart the week before, a game in which AU was apparently robbed of a TD on a pick return. Also, a questionable interference call on 3rd-and-10, the muffed punt where the ball apparently glazed a Saxon who was running downfield and a punt inside the 5 that bounces backwards, allowing Bombers to down it.

The only hometown refs Alfred can claim are Bill Schuster (AU alum from Livonia who caught brother Bob's passes while wearing the purple and gold), whose level of officiating is far above anything the ECAC has to offer, he being an NFL zebra.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

What is that from and what did you do yesterday to get your karma into the negative?
