Congrats to AU Coach Dave Murray for well-deserved recognition of the AU Student Affairs Division as "Outstanding Administrator."

"OUTSTANDING ADMINISTRATOR: Dave Murray, Head Football Coach

For the past three years, Dave has brought in record numbers of first-year students.  In part, it's because of the strength of the football program at AU.  But in larger part it's because of who Dave is - high-school kids just want to play for him.  In addition to his skills as a recruiter, Dave is a great coach who led the team to a winning record and an ECAC championship this year.  He's also been directly involved in helping his players make smart choices and holding them accountable when they don't.  He is a team player who works well both inside the athletic department and with the division as a whole - probably most with the Residence Life staff - and that results in a more effective system for ensuring that his players stay here at AU. "

Congratulations, Coach!

Any Empire 8 football fans around? Can we get some dialogue going here? I need a D3 football fix and I'm tired of visiting the LL or NJAC boards. Any early predictions on the 2006 football season in general, the E8 in particular?

aufan,
Haven't heard the particulars yet, just that it's another class of 75-80 recruits with some potential starters in the mix. Coach Murray's high school team football camp is maxed out this summer, which gives a lot of kids a look at AU. (But of course, that isn't always a good thing if kids aren't looking to go to college in Mayberry) AU picked up Trevor Bork (Victor) from that camp. With a NJ high school in the mix, it would be nice to get a few kids from the Garden State.

Had my prediction and summary all put together yesterday and when I went to post (I was not on my own computer), discovered that my time had expired....grrrrr! So it was "Lost in (Cyber)Space"! Perhaps I can recap it in a bit.

Ithaca College is going to be building a new sports facility that looks to me amazing. It will have an indoor practice field, an outdoor turf field for practice and games including lights, an 8 lane 200 meter indoor track, olympic size swimming pool with a seperate diving well, a crew training facility, a strenght and conditioning center, indoor tennis courts... and more.  Check out the link below for more info. IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!

Came on to post about the new facility plans.  Take the daylight visual tour.. it's pretty neat.

Not thrilled about a turf field for football, but I suppose I could live.  It certainly is about time for a new indoor facility, that is for sure.

I agree, i wouildn't be happy with the football facility moving. However I don't believe the intention is for the football facility to move. The games would still be held in butterfield stadium. The outdoor turf field woudl simply act as another place for the football team to be able to practice (this is my speculation). I think this is great since we have to rent out cornell's field the week of away games where we will be playing on turf. And having an indoor field where the team can practice during the 7 out of 12 months in ithaca where it's too freakin cold or rainy to be outside, it will be really nice.

It looks like it's going to be pretty incredible.  I'm sure the city of Ithaca is really excited about this new facility.  jk.  When is it supposed to be completed?  I can't imagine before 2010.

I think this looks incredible too.  I am not sure but there is no way they are moving the football games out of Butterfield.  That field in the drawings has to be either a turf practice field OR a new game field for Soccer and Lax.  Especially since the website mentions that a benefit of the new facility is keeping athletes from walking up the Hill to Upper Terrace Field.

The original plans I had heard about didn't mention that it would be a game facility for Basketball too.  This place looks pretty incredible.

The details page says it'll be the home site for b-ball, volleyball, wrestling, and gymnastics.  The turf field is for soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, softball, baseball, and football practices.  Games will still be at Butterfield.
