are we not overstating this travel 'issue' a bit?  Who the hell traveled to Norwich anyway?  Who traveled to Mt. Ida when SJF played them?  Who traveled to Salve Regina back in the day?  When Rowan was here for a Regional final 3 years ago, they brought exactly 3 fans...and 2 of 'em were on parole supervision.  We do get home games too out of these match-ups.

I'd certainly rather spend my travels to Salisbury for a great match-up than travel to Norwich to see a blow-out....I  mean to see Garcon get tackled at the one for a TD :(

I think we all want to see the most amount of games as we possibly can SJF82.  The further the games are from the school (and me in Boston), the less amount of games we get to see.

I actually want Ithaca to join the NEFC.

listen- we all know that the fsu and sals. u addition is a band aid and will only last a year or two.
what happens after that should be looked at long and hard......viability of the e8 comes into play.

Actually they should just have teams come and go for 2 years every 4 years.  that way they get an AQ with 6 teams 2 years out of every 4.

Any word or thoughts on why it was Salisbury & Frostburg instead of Salisbury & Wesley?

I don't know that Wesley was or wasn't invited, or would have accepted if they were; just asking at this point. But Wesley & Salisbury seem like a more natural match. Then with Frostburg left out in the cold, they could've been the 10th PAC school ... or joined the USAC when the ODAC finally takes Shenandoah :)

I heard the football team academics were an issue with Wesley.  The head football coach is the AD I believe. There are rumors that they can take some athletes that others can't.  Just the rumor on the street.

Hmmph.

Drass is the AD, or the "Executive Director of Sports and Recreation." That's true. Doesn't mean he has the power to squeeze kids through admissions, or would abuse it if he could.

I've heard that knock on school academics before, with Wesley and other schools. I like it about as much as I like "the Empire 8 was scared to add two teams that might very well be perennially the best two teams in the conference," so I hope there's something better at the end of this tunnel.

wesleydad

kmack, u r correct.  the academic issue has always been an excuse for others when discussing wesley.  since my son was there the last 4 years and numerous players, including larry beavers, were removed from the school (and team)  for academic reasons shows that wesley is serious about the school part of it.  i may not have agreed with drass on all his decisions, but i know for a fact that he does all the he can to make sure that his players do their job in the classroom and if they dont they dont play.  i think my son still has a foot print on his butt from coach making sure he got the job done in the classroom.

From the sounds of it, perhaps that rumor on the street should be washed down the storm sewer. Pep had heard Frostburg was invited but refused to accept without Salisbury and Wesley coming along. Pep believes the final verdict was simply a case of compromise. But, as has been said all along, it's likely a two-year fix till the Capital Conference gets its football footing.

Pep traveled to Norwich with a four-piece band and took out the Cadets' 50-piece military marching band and a few cannons as well. By halftime, their marching band went into hiding... :D

Pep was also at that Rowan game at Fisher and the Profs' "fan" turnout (were all their players orphans?) was almost as impressive as their performance on the field.

Are you sure you want to be in the same conference as Curry?   ;D

I could totally see Ithaca reapplying to the LL if the E8 started including SUNY schools.  Some people want to downplay the culture, but I spent a semester at SUNY Binghamton and the rest of my time at Hobart and can tell you that there's a world of difference (as well as the difference between Cortland and Ithaca - not just because of some rivarly, but they're totally different people at the two schools in general).

News Flash from Mayberry.....
Fox's Pizza Den is coming to Alfred, taking over the location abandoned by Sonora's Mexican Restaurant (after a water problem), but first abandoned by DP Dough, on Main Street, Alfred.

Pizza, Strombolis, Hoagies, Wedgies, Wings and Salads....

How would you like your wedgie?  ;)

Academics seems to be a fall-back sort of argument for any team that is perennialy strong.  "The only way they win is because they let anybody play."  Mount Union has been fighting that for years.  Ask Greg Michelli how many schools told him that his academics weren't strong enough.  This argument seems to try and be the "civilized" version of the losers chant: "That's alright, that's OK, you'll all work for us someday."

Really?  Academics?  C'mon Hartwick, you're better than that.

I inquired a little more....the word is Wesley was not invited by the other presidents due to their (I will use the words I was told) "academic profile". I think some coaches may have lobbied against Wesley. Right wrong or indifferent, they are viewed to have lesser standards for their football players.  Please don't shoot the messenger.
Remember, you told me I was inaccurate when I first posted the story of Salisbury and Frostburg coming into the conference without Wesley.  :)
