It must be something about the upstate Dinosaur BBQs, KS nephew, co-workers have all raved about it.  KS has had it from the Dinosaur in NYC and it didn't impress KS.  Two people KS works with went to Syracuse and love the one in NYC, KS doesn't get it.  But then KS has had BBQ in TN, NC and Texas and it fricken ruled.

I'm not so sure it's that the upstate Dinosaur's are better...it could be that folks from NY haven't had quite the same exposure to top notch BBQ.  I've done the BBQ Trail in TX, eaten at 4 joints in one day in Kansas City, and wandered around NC a good bit in search of decent 'que.  I'm still waiting for a good conference in Memphis to justify the trip there.  So far, nothing beats a good TX smoked brisket.

Dinosaur BBQ is good, but it doesn't stand up to the real homes of the different kinds of barbeque.  If you've never had the filet mignon, you'll enjoy the sirloin.

The good thing about BBQ and tailgating is that you can bring it to the parking lot and pick away at it for a while over a few beers.

I don't know man, I've been here in Houston for about a year, and I would still put Dinosaur BBQ in Rochester up there at the top -- of course, all I ever get is the big azz pork plate, so I don't have that broad of a sample  8)

Don't say you like pork better than brisket too loud down there!  It could be an easy way to discover who's got a concealed weapon permit.

The only thing that wrap-up was missing was that Alfred was so enthralled by closing 86 Field last year that the Saxons will be honoring its memory by recreating the experience at home this year complete with limited seating and fans lining the perimeter of the field.  So, if you intend on coming to Merrill Field this year, plan accordingly.

recruited or are actually bringing that many into camp?

fisheralum91

Blaise is a good recruiter- but 150?
seems far fetched

fisheralum91

dewcrew- you out there somewhere to substantiate this?

Looking for 'fine' dining other than the chain restaurants:  The Northfield in East Rochester...just down the road and a couple turns from the stadium.  This is where the Europeans partied into the night after their momentus win at the Ryder Cup in '95 at Oak Hill.  It was our Friday night 'pre-game' ritual senior year in '95 as well.

If you wanna grab Rochester's signature grub, you gotta go to Tahous  (now know as Stevie T's at the Gates location).  Warning...this food is designed to be eaten at 2am with a stomach full of your favorite pilsner or ale.

Else, there are a number of local sports bar eateries, many already mentioned....Distillery (3 locations...Brighton-Henrietta T.L. Road, Mt Hope Ave and W. Ridge Rd.)  I recommend the original location on Mt. Hope...15 min or less from SJF....Nathaniels located in downtown across from Blue Cross Arena in Corn Hill District....and then Dinosaur BBQ, also downtown on the river is an excellent atmosphere and food.

Note:  all recommended restaurants do have restrooms if you are still holding it from the game!!! ;)

The Distillery on Winton rd has great food, cold beer and lots of tv's. It is easy to get to from Fisher, leave Fisher west on 490 to 590 south only 15 minutes max.

Seconded, that's a great place to eat and grab some beers. MUC folks should hit that up.

Also would recommend the Dinosaur BBQ along with Upstate... get the Big Azz Pork plate, can't go wrong.

KS - the one in Harlem doesn't stand up to the one in Syracuse.  I have heard it's gotten better (haven't been back since the first 2 times) but it was no where near the Syracuse location when I have been there.

Actually dlippiel heard RPI and coach King helped Blaise recruit 149 of the 150 players as a result of wanting to prove he means buisness with his OOC schedule!

Well, truth be told, if the Merrill Field grandstand is not demolished in time to install temporary bleachers (and a temp. pressbox), AU will be playing home games either at Alfred State or Hornell High School. Pep is of the mind that the band will follow the Saxons....wherever they may play, home or away!! Pep is hoping, however, that AU will take some action soon, so as to allow the Saxons an actual "home field."

d3 poll just out
IC number 10
SJFC gets 48 pts 32nd

Ouch.
I guess starting out low and climbing is a good thing...............right?

AUPepBand

Pep is just delighted that his Saxons are nowhere to be found in the D3football.com Preseason Top 25. The last time AU appeared on the Top 25 list, they suffered a three-game losing streak.  :(

And, Pep recalls being told, when the Saxons were "also getting votes" that there is no #32 in a Top 25 poll.  ;)

sorry pep.
no 32nd....just 48 pts and hoping to climb into the mix.

hows that

i guess it is better to start out a way out if the first team you encounter is the number one team in the land.
no pressure.....no expectations.
no real drop

boobyhasgameyo

Yeah while I like the preseason polls they don't mean much...By the end of the year Ithaca who is ranked 10th won't be that high, Alfred who didn't record a single vote I bet will be in the top 25 and I think ahead of Ithaca in that top 25 and Fisher will probably taper off and remain in the "also receiving votes" section for most of the year...That's how I see it anyway.
