I actually read a great story on Sportsline earlier this summer about Notre Dame.  I can't find it right now but the premise was that Notre Dame's ridiculous TV contract with NBC is actually hurting Notre Dame financially.  The Big Ten, SEC, and Big 12 schools each get more TV revenue annually from their conference than Notre Dame gets from NBC.  The numbers baffled me but checked out.  Until the SEC re-upped with CBS this summer, the Big Ten was leading the way in TV revenues by school because of that network they started.

u r correctamundo...in fact it was quite surprising to me how quickly the big ten network was picked up by so many carriers(albeit a slugfest w/ comcast).... but u can see where the future is headed where each conf. is going to hold the rights to their broadcasts and eventually pay per view for a majority of games. the numbers are staggering how much revenue the big ten channel is generating already, much beyond all projections at this point. ND is going to get left in the dust...besides the tv money the grants the big schools get for research projects is huge and has really helped them load up on latest technologies and showcase the school w/ cutting edge technology for potential students/athletes. pbr barely recognizes the psu campus when walking around so many buildings have been torn down and replaced by research/development/engineering buildings its staggering.

I get the big 10 network out here in Boston and love it.  Nothing like Purdue/Indiana skeet shooting at 2am on a Sat. Morning.  Or Minnesota womens bowling...

But they do have some good football stuff in-season and out of season.  And they have a show that follows around specific teams.  They had one on Illinois football that I liked.

The SEC is in such a strong bargaining position they got CBS to agree to a clause in the tv deal that prevents Lundquist and Todd Blackledge from using the phrase "largest outdoor cocktail party" at any point during the Florida-Georgia telecast.

KD: I guess every recruiting program is different.  Perhaps keeping the strippers in central Ohio away from the ballplayers is what keeps them streaming in to play for Mount.

I think it's Gary Danielson now and not Todd Blackledge  :) .  Blackledge gets to eat around in different college towns on ESPN's Night game (which usually is an SEC game).

..And it definitely felt like a really out of control cocktail party to me.   ;)

PBR...

as much as its controversial the money generated from football allows schools to have fencing teams, or as JU stated skeet shooting, etc....surprised how many schools actually dont even make that much off of basketball. as much as we say we dont like the football factory mentality of div I-A schools it allows swim/volleyball/baseball/softball/track etc to exist w/ providing money for those teams. hence a reason why schools allocated so much money towards football as its the goose that lays the golden egg that supports many other programs in a university/college and is here to stay. in these trying economic times schools need cash and tv rights are a big nugget.

Ha.  You've obviously been to Ohio before.

My new favorite player.  That's all pretty much conventional wisdom in the rest of the world, but he seems like the first guy to be totally open and honest about it.  It may have been straight up, but I don' think he embarrassed himself with those comments either.  I used to do a ton of travelling for work and can say first hand that I've taken, over the counter, whatever worked - ripped fuel, hydroxycut, caffeine pills, etc for a lot less money than these guys make (I assume Arroyo isn't a min pay guy since he's had two or three decent years).

Finally someone just comes out and says it. They had a great discussion about the Arroyo article on PTI today, and Kornheiser had a great point. Since Steroids do so much good for the world, medicinally, why is it OK for you and I, but for major league athletes it is not. I am not saying that I think Baseball players, or any athletes, should be allowed to use PED's, but we have to realize that sports are a competitive landscape, and if there is something that can give someone an edge, they are going to use it.

I think what Arroyo said is refreshing.
