there are two nice hotels right downtown both of which are walking distance to the Commons and the restaurants and bars.

If you want the white tablecloth, check out John Thomas steak house.  Right up the hill from IC: http://www.johnthomassteakhouse.net/

You can also check out the Boatyard Grill down on the channel.  I think that serves as a mid-level restaurant in Ithaca now.

Careful on the Boatyard...they don't accept reservations and the wait times can be kind of long, especially if you go around 6 or 7. It's a great place; just don't go expecting to be seated right away. Also, Madeline's on the Commons has awesome desserts if you wish to indulge.

You can call ahead, though. That's what we did after the Widener-IC game. We had to wait a short time, but it would have been far longer had we not called ahead.

Both big games....and both contests will certainly peel back the onion on what all 4 teams truly are in '09.

Alfred by 14
Ithaca by 10

Great weekend in the E8.

The Hartwick game is only big if Hartwick wins.  Therefore, it is not a big game.

I think both games are huge for the big 4 teams in the league. I think we will find out a lot about Fisher this week. I would like to say that they just played really poorly a few weeks ago against Springfield, but I don't know. I think they were a little exposed. I think we will find out what they really have this weekend. Hopefully they can finally respond when we need them to. The last few years (since Faggiano left), the team has not had the same grit and toughness they had showed in the past. Here is hoping that IC brings out the best in them. I hate to be critical when they are still young and it is early in the season, but it seems to be going in the wrong direction for the Fisher program.

Do any other Fisher fans, or any others, have thoughts on this? It seems like it has been a steady decline. I have been saying that Fisher is still a year away, and that next year would be the one that they will get back to some form of what they were a few years back, but I am less and less confident with that with every game.
GO FISHER!!!

Pep thinks you meant Salisbury....a future E8 foe that starts with S and "runs" a bizarre offense, much like the current E8 foe that starts with S and "runs" a bizarre offense.

dlip concurrs with the page, this is a great weekend here in the E8. When looking at picks regarding the match-ups dlip is going with Alfred in a game that may be closer than most think, and Ithaca. dlip feels Grastorf finally gets some help on the ground this weekend and Ithaca is able to spread the wealth on O and get in sink the way many of us felt they would from the get go. This is a huge game for the bombers because dlip feels this is not a confident team. By no means does dlip feel SJF is a top notch team in 09 but feels they are still talented and dangerous with the potential to make a run through the E8 portion of their schedule. As dlip previously stated he is pulling for the bombers here big time and is hoping they use this week to put themselves in the position to keep moving forward. In the case of Alfred dlip feels that Wick proved their validity last week in the cage and comes into Saturday with a lot of confidence:

Alfred 28
Wick 24

Ithaca 21
SJF 10

Can;t go 21-10 on IC-SJF...Bombers' pass coverage is too soft...28-24 Cardinals on a late TD pass over the middle

And I think you have the difference right for the Fred-Wick game (with either team likely to come out on top), but I expect a 49-45 final.

Pep finds it interesting that a Bomber fan finds the Bomber pass coverage too soft... Likewise, as an Alfred fan, Pep's a bit concerned about AU's young secondary and how that may come in to play in the Saxons' encounters with pass-happy programs of Hartwick, Fisher, Rochester, Ithaca and Utica. Certainly Saterday will be a test.

Pep is also wondering, on the East Region Fan Poll thread, why no one has inquired who did NOT have Alfred at #1, since the Saxons were No. 1 on every ballot but one.

Did anybody catch Adam's new ATR article?  That whole thing about Alex Smith coming back to play quarterback for Cortland is quite interesting...That kind of shakes things up a bit don't you think?

If he can stay healthy it could be a huge boost...

Cortland should start the season with their backup QB under center so when whatever curse is playing out over there kicks in, it takes out the backup and not the starter...

Just kidding. It is weird how their quarterbacks are never healthy. As for his impact, well, let's remember, he hasn't played full time since when, early 2006? That's a long time to be away from the game. I think it's telling that he's the backup, but maybe he's got something left...
