The Empire 8 is looking interesting...and sadly, it's because of injuries...

With Alfred beating Fisher, but losing two of their best offensive pieces in the process, they could be vulnerable down the stretch...

Fisher right now has tunnel vision as a program.   They built their program to go head to head with IC and they have set their sights on beating IC so much that they let the rest of the conference catch up on them...

From 2002-2005 SJF went 1-3 vs IC but went 3-1 vs Hartwick and Alfred...

From 2006-2009 SJF has gone 4-0 vs IC but has gone 2-2 vs AU and 2-1 vs Wick (play on Nov 14th @ Wick)...

I'd never really thought of that before, but, I think Alfred and Wick deserve some credit for improving a bit. But it is amazing that Fisher can look so dominant against IC and struggle against other teams, even when they win.

this loss stings.
that game was great- but it is hard to take with that absolutely unforgivable special teams mess.
fisher had every shot to win this one.
congrats au
i hope that secky recovers
would like to see au run the table

If Secky is healthy for the rest of the season, they win out.  He is extremely impressive.  If he played the whole game today it probably isn't that close.

AU is the real deal and Secky is the most impressive QB I've seen this year.

It was great to meet Saxon73 and say hello to Pep.  Enjoyed the game tremendously.  Either team could have won.  When we lost Secky at qb, I thought we were done.  But Killcarr (sp?) was solid and the defense outstanding.  But I was wondering if #84 for Fisher is an ungracious scum to all visiting fans or just Alfred's?  He made not quite obscene gestures at our end of the home stands when he scored his touchdowns. Wonderful talent, NO CLASS.  I mean the AU fans were merely boisterously cheering for their team.  We wouldn't even be seated there if there were some decent visiting stands.

Great win Saxons, bring on Rochester.

That'll be the question. If he and Hendrix are healthy, it's a 9-0 season. If not, it's an open race, for now.

Would 9-0 be enough for a #1?

I would say yes. Pat, I'm sure, will disagree with me, but if Alfred wins out in the E8, I don't think there's a way to import MUC.

As an Alfred fan I'm just hopeful that since Secky ran off and was walking around without he crutches from time to time during the second half that he can at least be back by Nov. 7th.  Not sure what happened to Hendrix, but he was standing on the sideline without crutches at the end of the game, so hopefully he'll be back too.

As has been posted by others already, Fisher had any number of chances to win today and the Saxons were fortunate to escape with the win.  Even down to the final play Fisher had a chance to win.  I've saying it all year, but Alfred will go as far as their secondary and I felt like Fisher didn't take advantage of that more (even though they badly beat them all day long).

Oh, and for this week "On Saxon Warriors" will be replaced with "Hey, Pride!"

They really didn't try anything special in the passing game, all they did was fly routes and play action passes...

It was unfortunate to see the passing game limited to outside the numbers all game...

SJF has a ton of work to do on both sides of the ball still, the offense and defense are still extremely inconsistent.  There were times where both units dominated but they go through these spurts of complacency where they don't do anything productive with the ball.  They don't set up anything with their offense, their play action game leaves a lot to be desired at this point.  Defensively their blitz schemes are predictable and often get no pressure at all...

Gotta give AU a ton of credit for getting it done today with out Secky and Hendrix.  It was a good team win for them...

Wow...that one hurt, still does actually.  AU is looking good when they can prevail without all-conference QB and RB.

Said it right here earlier in week. SJF specs will cost the season and there you have it.  Punt return by committee between a Senior WR with great hands and Freshman RB who has only played garbage time so far and with minutes to go, you put the Freshman alone on his own 10yd line in a tie game????  I feel bad for the kid...Kid shouldnt have been in that spot!

Well, tough to sweat and bleed for 4 years for the seniors and have their careers defined by those decisions.

Caught a glimpse of the Pep mobile...looks good  Pep.  Gave a hi and a "good job" on the way way out...Kaz00...were you part of that crew??

Love them 'Cards and this one sucks.

Good job AU.

theoriginalupstate

Ty that special teams gaff hurts but I'd rather have a punt returner than a punt catcher back there...

AUKaz00

Ty,
I rolled in later than the band with my oldest and then let him run around a bit after the game.  Sorry I missed you; I think it's been since the 2006 Regional Finals since we last said hello.  Fisher and Alfred are similar in that both are probably top 40 team (or Tier 3 as K-Mack outlined at the start of the season), so the games have been battles the past few years.  Fisher is definitely the game I want Alfred to win the most each year, maybe if we beat Ithaca more than once a decade that wouldn't be the case!

Pep is ecstatic. Words cannot adequately describe the euphoria Pep experienced today. In the most difficult of situations, facing multiple adversities, against all odds and just when Pep was ready to throw in the towel, this week despite faulty brake lights, a headlamp out, a tie rod in need of  replacement and the shop owner last year telling Pep it probably couldn't survive another year, the AU Pep Bandwagon passed its inspection and successfully completed its first AU football road trip of the 2009 season!! Here's to 317,237 miles....and counting! Oh yeah, AU won the football game, too. On Saxon Warriors!
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

You are actually 1-2 against Wick in the last 3 years, which actually helps your arguement...just saying...though I am not looking forward to this match up.
