I am wondering how Fisher will react to the the remaining two games of their season. Now that their playoff chances has taken a big hit, I hope they can come out and still play on. I fear both of these games, and thus a 4-5 season (ouch).

Pep is thinking Springfield should prove to be the tougher of the two remaining opponents on Fisher's schedule, although the Hawks have had the Cardinals' number of late. Pep certainly will be interested in the Springfield-Ithaca and Springfield-Fisher contests. The Pride may prove a more rugged opponent than folks have thought.

On Saxon Warriors! Hey Pride!

dlip concurs with pep(as usual :)) and has been feeling all year this Pride team is for real. He may still be wrong about the Pride but he does not think so. dlip is hoping for the Pride to win out it's remaining contests and put itself into pool C consideration.

Saxon73, would also take advantage of this lull in posting to give additional Kudos to the AU linemen giving our backup QB the protection and chance to step up into the pocket.  The O-Linemen did a great job.

It has been quiet on the E8 boards.

Yeah it's been dead...

Just like SJF's playoff hopes...

Sounds to me that Vosburgh was trying to say what every coach says: One play doesn't determine the outcome of a game.  I think he was making the point there Fisher could have done a lot of things differently, like say, picking off that pass, and still won the game despite the fumble.  Right?  All coaches think that way.

Wait.  Strike that.  Attention LB recruits.  Vosburgh will blame you for everything.  Mike Welch will not.

Forgive me for holding this comment back for soooo long, but, with my years of longevity I will say it now.  Back to '69 with Coach Yunevich playing a 5-3 defense AU was recognized as a defensive team at least.  After graduating and having lived in the Penn State area I felt some akinship.  It seemed "to me" that AU was the miniature Penn St - Linebacker U. -aka Brenton Brady for more recent or younger posters.  Also, strangely, both areas are known as "Happy Valley"

Just an observation over the years.

Saxon 73:
Pep has made the same observation of the similarities of Alfred and Penn State. You are correct in that both areas are known as "Happy Valley" although since the closure of Alfred's ski center, there's no evidence of that label.

Like Alfred, State College is purely a "college town," albeit a little larger than Alfred, and located in a valley surrounded by "mountains."

Back in 1988-89-90, AU had a clever QB named Lance Locey and, at the same time, Penn State had a QB named Lance Lonergan who suffered in 1988 thru the Lions' first losing season since 1938. Locey led the attack in 1989 when AU went 9-2 and handed unbeaten Bridgewater State (MA) a 30-27 defeat in the ECAC North Championship. Without All-American tailback Ray Rogers in the backfield in 1990, the Saxons fell to 4-6.

Penn State, in its storied football history, has had SEVEN undefeated-untied seasons since its start in 1887.

Alfred has had SIX since its start in 1895. Both schools have outstanding ceramic engineering programs.

Penn State's football program is led by a legendary coach, as was Alfred from 1937-1976.

+K to those on the boards....for tolerating Pep's mindless nostalgia.

Not to mention Saxon73's mindless nostalgia - more to come :)

It's not like you know what the "Pride" is going to do ;)

OK,

If no one else wants to think about it yet, how far might Alfred go if Secky and Hendrix return?

If Secky stays healthy AU is the team to beat in the E8 until he graduates...

Upstate,

Appreciate your opinion.  Hope you are right.

I agree. Secky's a beast.

I think, if Ithaca and Alfred win this week, the board may pick up, because that will set up a possible "winner take-all" scenario in the AU-IC game for the E8 title (it's already pointed out the sizeable advantage IC would have in a 3 way tiebreak with AU and Fisher). Other than that, we're playing out the string, so is Fisher and Springfield doesn't seem to have many followers on here

I also hope you're correct, but Alfred loses Hendrix, Manzer and Harding to graduation this year so that's a lot of new targets that Secky will have to work with.  Plus, Carter is only a sophomore as well and will only get better at running that triple-option.  Add in Ithaca's highly touted freshman recruiting class, the quality players Fisher continues to bring in because of their success and facilities, and Faggiano's recruiting abilities and I'm not sure there is a team to beat in the E6.
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

Being a Massachusetts guy I would honestly like to see Alfred and Springfield win out. I know many of you guys don't like to hear that, but it would be in the best interest of the conference because its the best chance for 2 teams from the E8 to get in. Springfield is a respected football school in the New England region and it would be nice to see them get into the playoffs and do some damage. You can count me in as a Springfield supporter.
