Quote from: BoSox0322 on November 04, 2009, 04:03:40 PMWhat Alfred is being exposed to is the opinion of some posters (from both teams) that if Ithaca and SJF arent the two best teams in the league.... then the league is down that year.... and Alfred's team cant compare to any of the good Ithaca or SJF teams...

lets Go Alfred...Fight the elitist....

Saying the league is down because Fisher and IC are having down years has nothing to do with how good Alfred is.

The league is down when most of the teams aren't very good.  EVERY year, Hartwick, Utica, and (the artist formerly known as Norwich), aren't good.  Therefore, there isn't any reason to discuss those teams when discussing whether or not the league is having a down year.

The only teams that are regularly good are IC, Springfield, Alfred and Fisher.  Therefore, those are the teams you talk about when you are arguing the league is down.

The same is true when we were saying that the E8 was having a great year because Hartwick was having an "up" season.  We didn't need to say that Fisher, IC, Alfred and Springfield are also good.

ok ... If Hartwick is so bad ... how do they have a winning record in the years that YOU mentioned vs Fisher one of the teams you mention... a team that isnt ever good wouldnt be able to say that.

Sample size, my good man. I learned that (sort of) when I stayed awake in Stats class.

thats the sample size that was provided to me

Ok. So in both cases it's too small. Just saying

guys- viper had a great point.
Blaise is recruiting very well east of I81.
He is like a kid in the candy store out here.
He is and will continue to take potential wick recruits.
Look for that to be a big difference maker in years to come.
fact of the matter is that the guy can flat out recruit.
i was talking to a former fisher parent and he spoke extremely highly of blaise.
he was a local guy and sees more section III products staying local.

It will probably take away from everyone if he really does begin to get that areas top recruits.  His only problem is that as a school Utica is just not a fun place to be...

Agreed...and I grew up in the Utica area.  Section III isn't really a "hot bed" of recruits either.  I would say Section V (Rochester) and Section II (Albany) produce far better players as a whole.  For most kids, especially with the economy, it is going to come down to money and who gives the best FA package.  Though from what I hear, Blaise is a fantastic recruiter.

Bosox and yanks,
Sox- you are a little off on the UC- not being a good place--you should see the campus-much different than even 5 years ago. Dr. Hutton has been very aggressive in getting the college a new look and new buildings.
New stadium, new academic buildings, new housing--much better night life--it isnt your old uc.

Yanks- while i agree that sec III isnt a hot bed of talent----what better way to keep the good local guys local
it is an obvious fit.
Yanks- remember- your QB is from the mohawk valley--so be careful about bashing sec III
as i recall from recent memory- from the Fisher side alone- there were 8 mv guys that started for them
including but not limited to Jimmy Smith, Rob Kramer and Kevin Dwyer

You absolutely have to keep local talent first.  However, I would say Section III is Utica's back yard...while Section IV is actually Hartwick's back yard.

I am not knocking Section III, and not bashing players from Section III that are good.  As an example, just because the best player in the state coming into college played in Section VII or X, doesn't make those sections hotbeds...or imply that the "best player" is terrible.

Yanks- understood.
Dont think for a minute tho that wick isnt in Sec III's back yard.
I understand the geography- but with Oneonta literally within 15 miles of sec III schools it really is close.
Oh- and i almost forgot-
Your GOD was from a sec III school

wow--what the hell was his name.........................OH THATS RIGHT--- BOLTUS

Again...I am not knocking Section III...but I would consider Section IV our backyard.  Oneonta is relatively close to some smaller schools at the far southeast part of Section III (Utica area).  But Oneonta is an hour from Albany and Binghamton with a lot of schools up and down the Route 88 corridor in both directions...I would say that is our "backyard" area.  Oneonta is about two hours to Syracuse (the hotbed, if there is one, of Section III).

Additionally, of our starters 5 are from Section IV and 3 are from Section III (2 of them being the Radley twins from Dolgeville)...and total, there are about 8 players from Section III on the roster, and at least 15 Section IV players on the roster.

Again...God...I mean Boltus...may have been from Section III...but if he was from Massena (Section X), would that make the North Country our hot bed?

no no.
wasnt saying that at all.
trust me i get it.
sec IV is the backyard--but in terms of recruiting- i really think that both UC and Wick are going after the same guys in both sec 3 and 4
small school kids going to small colleges
great fits

I agree with that...and they should, relative to their respective locations.

I always thought Blaise's advantage was that he hammered the Rochester area for SJF...and now is doing the same thing at Utica.

Sucks.

Go Bombers.

Good effort, but about as original as Ithaca's offensive play calling.  This is precisely the kind of uninspired support that has relegated the FDC to nothing but an amusing footnote in the E8PP History class.  And unfortunately for Bombers fans, this week's test is on current events!!!

Hmm, an Alfred education and lucidity. I wonder if there is any connection? Hmmm.
