AU has averaged 8 wins a year since 04...

SU has averaged 4 wins a year since 04...

See, I gotta do a better job of keeping up with the selection criteria. I didn't realize that teams were selected and ranked on their 6 year records. Scrotch THIS year was a good, but certainly not great, team. Alfred THIS year was a good, not great, team. If they don't get smoked by Ithaca I'd have called them a very good team. Both the LL and E8 were average leagues this year.

And I'm not sure either of us (LL fans or E8 fans) should be talking crap about each other, at this point it feels like determining the tallest midget.

Quote from: dlippiel on November 16, 2009, 03:22:00 PMAlso to be honest, dlip does not consider ECAC games true "post season" games. They are seeemingly and extra in region game that serves as a sub-playoff/season closer.

I'll go one further DLip.  ECAC games are pre-season exhibitions that just happen to occur at the end of the season and, for my money, mean about as much as IC's pre-season scrimmage with Cornell.  I think they the only thing that makes them "post-season" is the fact that they happen to occur in November.

Agreed. If the ECAC's were a tournament, then I'd consider them the NIT's to the NCAA's, but it's not a tournament. If a team had to get through Union, SJF, Cortland, Springfield, Kean, Leb Val, etc. would be an accomplishment, but it's just a one game exhibition. The fact that all the above .500 teams that applied were accepted (or at least seems like it) makes it the Poulan Weedeater Bluebonnet Bowl.

Wouldn't the tallest midget be Mark John?

It has also been pointed out to me that an ECAC game is a couple-thousand-dollar commitment.... another reason a school might not think it's worth it.

The 2004 Mass-Darmouth shelacking was devoid of people.

I actually worked at that game. I had never heard of UMass-Dartmouth, and it took me until I got to the press box to realize we weren't for some reason hosting a scrimmage between UMass and Dartmouth.

Almost as bad as the time I realized aloud: "Ooohh, it's a combination of 'Cortland' and 'Ithaca.'"

Just a couple of the many times my boss swore never to hire another music major...

You were a percussionist huh?  KS was a classical guitar major.

He's actually an elf, not the same thing. Something to do with the ears.

Here's the link to the ECAC matchups:

http://www.ecacsports.com/sports/fall/fball/Championships/DivisionIII/2009-10/09_bowls

ECAC Northeast Bowl: Plymouth State (8-2) at Springfield (7-2)

ECAC North Atlantic Bowl: Hartwick (5-4) at Union (7-3)

ECAC Northwest Bowl: Cortland State (7-3) at St. John Fisher (6-3)

ECAC Southeast Bowl: Ursinus (6-4) at Kean (8-2)

ECAC South Atlantic Bowl: Wilkes (6-4) at Franklin and Marshall (8-2)

ECAC Southwest Bowl: Salisbury (5-5) at Lebanon Valley (8-2)

those could be some real good matchups... I especially like the Fisher-Cortland tilt.. should be a really close matchup.

I think Fisher is going to pound them

sjfcards

All this talk about the ECAC's, but I want to know if anyone is making the trip to Alfred for their big game this weekend? Lets face it, ECAC's are a consolation prize for a team that had a good season, but didn't do enough to play in the NCAA's. I think it is a great thing for seniors to try and win a "title" beore they are done. (it is even nicer when you get to play at home). I understand why teams would not want to participate. Sometimes the cost is too high, sometimes you just don't want to accept that into a culture. Whatever the reason is, their is arguments both ways.

But for the games that really matter on Saterday (outside of each ECAC's teams fan base), I wonder what AU's chances are? I am sure they are going to have a big crowd on hand for their first chance at an NCAA win in a while.
GO FISHER!!!

First of all, Fisher IS going to pound Cortland.

And I like Alfred. At home, with Secky, I don't think they falter like they did at IC.

Yeah I think SJF is going to win.  They are playing too well right now.  The past two weeks they're outscoring their opponents 90-20 and haven't allowed a 100 yard rusher all season.  If the O-line plays well and gives Bailey time they'll put up big numbers.

BTW the last time these two teams met SJF raced to a 40-16 lead and never looked back in 2003 when they won 47-37.  That game was hilarious as a senior.  Cortland was so undisciplined and were getting a bit chippy.  Highlight of the game was a Cortland player runs out of bounds on the Fisher sideline right through all the players and just threw the ball into the stands and dang near hit the press box.

Prediction:

SJF 38
Cort 20

QuoteWho cares about what teams did in the early 90's or before when comparing them to this year's team...hey did you know that Saint Lawrence made the National Semi-Finals in 1976, when they only took 8 teams in the tournament?  So because of this...SLU has more of a history then Hobart then, I assume...at least by your arguement.

Well than who gives a **** about what Wick did the past three seasons? This season they did not win their league or go to the NCAA's and Susquehanna won their league title. Dude, dlip roots for Wick a ton, but their overall body of work, in the past, and especially this year, is really not all that good. To suggest that their 07 team is comparable to this years Susquehanna is fair to an extent. Yet, if you consider that 07 team is the only team Wick ever had that could maybe have had a shot at winning the LL ever, than that is not saying  much. No one is saying that Susquehanna is a great team but they are definitely deserving of more respect than they are recieving.

Settle down dlip...when did I ever say Wick was great?  Where?  When?  I said we were comparable to Sus...that is it.  Who is disrespecting Sus.???  So...comparing Wick to Sus is somehow disrespecting them?  That is ridiculous.

Dude, dlip settled hence deleting the post  ;) We can agree to disagree but in dlip's opinion it is a disrespecting Susquehanna to say the year they win the LL are comparable to a Wick team that had a defense that resembled chicken cloth at best, lost to WNEC (dlip will never let that go he was so pissed) and gave up ****in 70 (49 in 4 Q's to Utica).

Hahaha...its all good...yes, our defense was awful...then by that account I find it disrespcting to 07 Wick to compare 09 Sus. when Sus. lost to a terrible MMA team, and had only an average offense compared to the greatest show on turf and an all-time D3 great!!!

Seriously...this is all in good fun, and I am completely not looking for any type of respect...you would have to be a dope to look for that on here.

Yanks +k for throwing in the MMA loss, dlip was waiting. Heading to Shocktown for the game on Sat?

Hahaha...I wish...I haven't been back to Union to see a game in a while...but with a 2 month old and a new house (that still needs to be finished painting), I think the odds of me getting down there are pretty long...which is too bad.  I also wish Boltus was behind center too...because we are going to have to play pretty well as it is to win.

Pep actually was quite surprised at the size of the crowd on Saturday versus Utica. Close to 4,000 with only a handful making the trip for Utica. When AU plays Ithaca or Fisher at Merrill Field, it's always a good draw. Utica, not so much. Pep is thinking folks wanted to see AU clinch its NCAA berth, although, understandably, some left at halftime with AU up 42-7.

While it was a BIG crowd Saturday, it seemed pretty subdued...until the PA announcer said, "And the AU football team is going to the NCAA Championships!"

NCAA has set ticket prices at $8 general admission, $4 for students. Pep Band gets only 15 free passes, so all you Pep Band wannabees can just forget about asking Pep for a kazoo.

I remember that game well. I was a senior at Fisher that year, and my father is a Cortland Alum. He was in Rochester that day for the soccer dinner, and we caught the game together. It was like the first time I beat my dad at basketball watching that game. He was a little upset about it, but it made my week. I remember one heck of a catch down in the endzone near the FishBowl, but I don't know who caught it. Noah maybe?

It was James Simboli that made that one handed catch in the corner to put us up 40-16...
