I would actually go:

1. Ithaca (kind of reminds me of the classic Penn State look, even though I am not a Penn State fan)
T2. Hartwick
T2. Fisher
4. Utica
5. Springfield
6. Alfred (sorry Saxons...not a big fan of purple and yellow)

A lot more love for the Utica Unis than I thought there would be. I am not a huge fan of them. I think they should go with the all orange look like the Cuse teams from a few years ago.

I would rank them:
1. Fisher
2. IC (can't go wrong with a classic look, that never changes)
3. Hartwick
4. Springfield
5. Alfred
6. Utica

Next year this will all change with Salisbury and Frostburg to consider.

Actually, Alfred is purple and GOLD, royal colors in honor and memory of King Alfred the Great after whom the university is named.

What came first, the University or the town?

Alfred Centre was founded in 1807 while the select school (which became Alfred University) didn't start until 1836.

Yes, the village existed before the university.  I was just trying to explain the reason for our colors.

Pep thinks the goldenrod and purple ironweed that grows wildly along roads throughout Allegany County may have had something to do with the selection of said colors, selected by the student body in 1874.

Alfred's athletic teams have been called the "Saxons" since a student vote back in 1929.

And, BTW, for what it's worth, Pep really likes the Saxons' white road uniforms...much better than the purple pants and white shirts worn for years.

Just out of curiosity, what is a "select school"?

Not having studied the history of the Seventh Day Baptists who settled the valley and established the school, I can only reply based upon my knowledge of Methodism from my youth.  John Wesley was part of a group known as the "Select Society" where "select" meant "those who would become leaders and desire to go on to perfection in sanctifying grace."  That seems to fit with the purpose of the select school which was to train leaders in the Seventh Day Baptist faith.

Purple pants are never a good idea, unless you have a purple jersey to go with it (see MUC's Unis). My high school's colors were purple and white, and the football teams purple pants and white jerseys on the road were pretty bad. When they changed to all white, with purple helmits it was a vast improvement.
