Yes, the village existed before the university.  I was just trying to explain the reason for our colors.

Pep thinks the goldenrod and purple ironweed that grows wildly along roads throughout Allegany County may have had something to do with the selection of said colors, selected by the student body in 1874.

Alfred's athletic teams have been called the "Saxons" since a student vote back in 1929.

On Saxon Warriors!

And, BTW, for what it's worth, Pep really likes the Saxons' white road uniforms...much better than the purple pants and white shirts worn for years.

Purple pants are never a good idea, unless you have a purple jersey to go with it (see MUC's Unis). My high school's colors were purple and white, and the football teams purple pants and white jerseys on the road were pretty bad. When they changed to all white, with purple helmits it was a vast improvement.

last time i wore a purple 'helmit" it broke and now I have 4 kids....hi ho.....

Great draw for the US MNT for June's World Cup.  Bring on the Brits!

I couldn't figure out what all of worries and gloom were all about when the POTS came out on Tuesday, the roll of the dice today was what mattered, and it ended up pretty damn spectacular, behind only France's lucky draw. With all of the bad draws we've had in the past, we deserved a break.

And seeing Mexico get draw into Group A made me want to punch someone.  Fortunately the draw ended as well as it was to watch (thank you, Charlize Theron).

PBR...

total disgrace that france got that easy draw...it was rigged period so it doesnt look so bad if france gets out of the bracket the fifa will just say if they replayed the game france would of beaten ireland...total b.s.

Could not have said it better myself. I am typically not a conspiracy theorist, but with FIFA it just seems like they are not even trying to mask their shadyness. Just look at the last few weeks. Forget the France/Ireland dibacle (yes a bad call, but that is part of the game). But how about the "random" drawings for the last three spots. It just happens that France, Portugal, and Russia (The three big teams that FIFA obviously wants in the World Cup) get to play the three smaller teams that were left? That seems pretty convenient for FIFA. I am glad Slovenia beat Russia and stuck it to FIFA (Also because now the US gets to play them. It is like this every 4 years.

It was a great draw for the US. England is obviously a great club, but if you ask anyone who knows the game, they can be beaten. I would much rather play them, than say France or Germany. If the US can get any result from that game, they should be in a great position to move on.

P.S. I love the soccer talk on the Football board.

And one more thing, is everyone else pulling for a Wesley/Linfield final?

I am, but it would probably screw up ESPN's coverage as they are most likely already doing MUC pieces...

Yes.

Although the Wesley Contingent on the Ustream chat board during the game didn't really impress me... And I myself haven't really had the best run-ins with Wesley Fans...

Yes.

dlip is happy for Linfield's success and would really like to see a Wesley/Linfield final. Honestly, and dlip says this with no disrespect to Dub Dub and MUC but dlip would rather see a ****in Fog Horn Leg Horn/Pepe Le Pew final than another MUC/Dub Dub. Just for the sake of seeing some different teams on the Stagg Bowl national stage. dlip means ****, it differs for all but dlip can only look at the same color ****in paint on the walls for so long....unless of course that paint is Garnet.

Linfield is Purple too.  It's impossible to get away from that color... The main Teams of this decade have been Purple... (Including Mary Hardin Baylor)

I am a little tired of the annual MUC/UWW final myself. It would be great just to see some new blood on ESPN for a change. I don't think the dominance of MUC or UWW is good for DIII, but I am sure that the TV folks love it.

It'd be nice, but it's unlikely to happen in the near future.
