I tend to agree with 82
I am not in favor of the game moving.
It seems to mean more when it is on campus.

Fisher and UR to hold a press conference tomorrow to announce that the Courage Bowl will be played at Paetec Park downtown.  For those that dont know, Paetec is a soccer stadium built about 7 years ago for the Rochester Rhinos.  It also hosts Section V tournament games in many sports.  I believe its capacity is in the 10-15k range.

Personally, I think it is a bad idea.  Example of egos getting in the way of common sense.  Its all about the benjamin though!

I've been saying it for a couple years now...

I think it' a great idea...

How is this an example of egos getting in the way?

Bigger is better is always what these egomaniacal college presidents think.

Mark my 'words'....it will the same 5k fans sitting in a half empty sterile stadium instead of being packed into an enthusiastic Growney or Fauver.

It will be a shame.

And besides, who wants to give up the home field?

Read my rant on the LLPP...

i agree 82 your arguments as posted on the LL board are just and sound.i will also add to the mix that it is special to have the "captains" on campus to get a feel of what it is like

I agree its better in the smaller intimate stadiums with home field advantage.  Although I've never been to this particular rivalry game, I'm trying to picture Cortaca not being held at Ithaca or Cortland.  Even though Cortland's stadium is much nicer and newer, there is something about cramming into Butterfield with 10k+ fans shoulder to shoulder.  The fact it sells out also adds to the mystique.  If it was played in a larger, less condensed stadium something would be taken away.  And I don't know where the stadium is in relation to the schools but it adds to the convenience of going for the home students.  A lot of the students who go to D3 college games go for the social scene and to pass some time on a Saturday.  If its moved off campus I feel alot of students won't be bothered. In my opinion I think it would be better in the school's home stadiums....

That is exactly the opinion I was looking for regarding Cortaca...obviously, Fisher-UR is not Cortaca, but same idea.  Cortaca would never be the same if it was played at a downtown municipal stadium with 5000 empty seats and no dorms in the backdrop.  Same opinion on the students attending.

WHAT IF:

Cortland State and Ithaca College will hold a press conference tomorrow announcing that the 2010 Cortaca and all future Cortacas will be held at Schoellkopf Field (capacity 25,597) on the campus of Cornell University in order to safely accommodate the huge crowd. There's speculation that such a move would allow both institutions to each sell 10,000 tickets for their fans and that the National Guard would likely be called in to maintain order.

Pep contends that such a move would result in a lackluster crowd of 4,138 in attendance.

Pep likes Fauver Stadium and experienced a pleasurable "Battle of the Bands" there in 2008 with those bumblebees. There was plenty of room and Alfred always travels well to Rochester.

With Fisher's plans to "finish" Growney by building a double-sided grandstand between the football field and a track and field stadium, thus increasing the seating capacity, Pep would think a Courage Bowl move to Paetec would be foolish at this time.

While Pep prefers peeing in Porta-Potties only when absolutely necessary, it's the visitor side seating that irks Pep. But Pep was pleased that more Saxon fans joined the band on the Fisher side in 2009, and Fisher personnel were most hospitable and accommodating.

Schoellkpf isn't the greatest place since 90% of the seating seems to be on one side.  But you wouldn't see too much difference in the crowds since students from each school travel very well to each away game.  But if there were a stadium that could seat 20K in either city you would probably see the cortaca games there.

You are right on with this SJFF82. They should keep the ****ing game at both schools on a rotating basis. Remember "The Natural" when Redford first batted in batting practice and was hitting those HR's and you could hear the echo in the stands? Well get ready because with all those empty seats a touchdown will sound like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZR_FYKPAAQ ....****ing shame.

I don't argue that you're probably right, but since this game hasn't been played off campus yet, I think the jury might still be out.

If the game didn't benefit Camp Good Days I might take issue with it, but it's for an amazing cause and anything to help that cause shouldn't really be questioned...

The more people at the game, the better it is for everyone involved...

If people are worried about home field advantage then maybe they should just play better...

I actually might think it could benefit SJF.  They are bigger, faster, better coached and more talented than Rochester.  Taking the emotional aspect of the game would only benefit SJF.

Pep loved that movie, plus the fact that it was filmed in the "Old Rockpile" in Buffalo, aka War Memorial Stadium. Pep experienced those "empty stands" when the Saxons played there against the Canisius Golden Griffins...an ugly sister-kissing 21-21 tie the last time they played there.

Thanks for the memories.  :)

Hearing Springfield to the LL in 2011.  Has anyone else heard this?

Hearing the same but no confirmation.

At the end of the 2009 football season, it appeared that Alfred was struggling to fill its 2010 schedule and had only eight games. The Saxons have since picked up Widener for the season opener, and will also play Frostburg State (E8 contest in 2011). Those two replace UMass-Dartmouth and FDU-Florham, leaving the Saxons, once again, tentatively, with a 9-game schedule in 2010.

Pep is hoping for a tenth game. It appears Alfred and RPI both have open dates on Oct. 16. Pep would like to see a rematch of the 2008 ECAC Bowl?! Pep is thinking such a repeat matchup could test the relationship of a certain father (AU alum) and son (RPI alum).
Any possible dates to play Wesley?
