Upstate New Yorkers may have already known this but Jason Boltus' brother is making noise in Division I Lax.

Pep happened to have caught some of a replay of an Army-Navy lax contest and figured that was Boltus' brother....who is, as a matter of fact, coached by none other than Alfred lacrosse great Joe Alberici! Way to go, Joe! Pep always enjoyed watching the Saxons when Alberici was on the turf.

Go Army!
(On Saxon Warriors!)

P.S. The Alfred fight song has the same starting melody line as the Army fight song. In the band's kazoo infancy, Pep had to drill the Alfred song into AUKaz00's head, as he was prone to wander back to his Army football days as a tot growing up in Goshen near West Point.

Yeah, I had the worst time making the transition from Miche Stadium to Merrill Field.  But, they both had urinal troughs to make it a little easier on me...

+k for urinal troughs....Pep was not privy to that fact.

AU's Jared Manzer reports on his participation in a combine at New Orleans: "Combine went well! Ran a 4.45 for the 40, a 4.20 for the pro agility, and got 8 reps on the bench. Hopefully i get invited to Indy!!"

Best of luck to Manzer....the Man!

I still wish we'd done a version of The Rapper by The Jaggerz for big plays by Manzer.  The whole band chanting "MAN-zer, Man-zer, Man they call him the Manzer" with that sweet cowbell rhythm getting knocked out.  If we can at least get Pennsylvania 6-5000 into rotation this year, I think I can let my disappointment go...

So Pep was cruising last night with MPep and Pep started humming the Pennsylvania 6-5000 song. Pep has asked the REAL band director to compose it for the band. We shall see what he comes up with. Also, Pep has a new drum cadence to work up with the cheerleaders, who assure Pep that they WILL be on the scene for the 2010 football season.

As for MAN-zer, Pep thinks the ideal time to break out "The Rapper" would have been the 98-yard INT TD against Rochester. That play definitely was an encapsulation of four years of frustrated (deep fourth down pick) elation (returned 98 yards for a TD) that was Manzer. Pep was able to secure one of the 2009 season highlight DVDs and that return was included in its entirety.

Pep received a text message from a very excited AUKaZ00 who came across a cow suit at an Andover yard sale exactly like that of a fellow Saxon Silly, and purchased it for $2. Later he verified said claim by texting a photo of said suit with the message "Saxon Sillies Live!!" Only a week earlier, Pep had texted 'Z00 that he had picked up TWO purple and gold golf umbrellas for $1.50, one sporting the "Lil Alf" character that everyone (excepting one or two) loves.

Pep would not be all that surprised if those attending AU football games this fall were to spot a cow mixed in with the AU Pep Band, likely playing a kazoo and, while no one can likely match JJ-gyrations, dancing around with a blue circa 1970s horn under a purple and gold AU umbrella.

Yard Sales are the best:
Two purple and gold AU golf umbrellas...$1.50.
Cow Suit with udder................................$2.00.
Old blue stick horn from c. 1970s.............$1.00.
Beat-up Old Trumpet...............................$15.00.
Being a Saxon fan of the silliest kind....priceless.

Probably talking to myself some more, but..... has anyone else seen the Lindy's and Sporting News Football Issues? Pep spent some time at a Border's Bookstore on Sunday and was surprised to find the annual football mags already on the stands.

Pep promptly grabbed a copy of each, found a comfortable chair and read their pieces on D3. A few minutes later, Pep returned said mags to said stand, convinced that he'd much rather spend $6.95 (or whatever the fee will be) on a D3football.com online product.

Pep was happy (and somewhat surprised) to see both Ithaca and St. John Fisher of the E8 in the Top 25 list in one of the magazines, especially after many posters on these boards apparently concurred that 2009 was somewhat of a "down year" for the East Region.

Seems a bit early, but any word on the 2010 Kickoff?

Saw that last season against SU, but this season I notice Fellicetti from Notre Dame is from the same town as Ithaca's former QB Josh.  I assume they are related too.

Who looks to have the inside crack at starting QB for the Bombers in 2010?

Who has a crack at starting at QB? + Who has the inside track at the QB job = who's looking at the QB's crack?

Looks like the Empire 8 is getting some love in the pre-seaason Lindy's poll. Fisher is 14, and IC is 16.

13. Central
14. St. John Fisher
15. North Central
16. Ithaca
17. Willamette (Ore.)

I am a little surprised AU is not in the mix but you can never put too much stock in pre-season polls. It is incomplete information and does not really mean much. I still love to see E8 schools on the big board when they come out.

Alfred's secondary is still a little too loose for any top 25 consideration and while I love getting Pep's excited texts about Saxon recruits, not a single one has included a corner or defensive back...

Pep, you must remember, still maintains eligibility...and is considering taking some classes this semester. Fact is, Pep had two picks in his last two outings, thus averaging a pick per game...and will certainly bat a ball down on a 4th down and long, so long as he can remember what down it is.  ;)
