Sadly enough, I was not taken in this year's supplemental draft.

Rumor has it that Pep was checked out by the Raiders to compete for the # 1 QB spot.  Of course, after Al Davis found out Pep graduated High School two years before he did, negotiations fell through...

The only reason Pep was being checked out by the Raiders is because Al "The Game Has Passed Me By" Davis wanted a mature individual leading his team's offense. Negotiations fell through when Pep informed him he had never played QB and had always been a WR. Pep's pops would have been proud of Pep to wear the silver and black...his favorite team!

Long live George Blanda!

I was a big Raiders fan as a kid and I too would be proud to have Pep in the Silver and Black!!

George Blanda- Never saw him play but anyone who could throw a touchdown pass then kick the extra point is definitely an all around great!!

I mean, there's always Doug Flutie- dropkicking a field goal for the Pats haha- but I wouldn't exactly say his career lived up to the hype as Boston's main man after the '84 Heisman win...

R.I.P. George Steinbrenner...one of his smartest moves...hiring George Costanza!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KV-GJ9iNX8g

Now that Steinbrenner is in heaven I wonder if he will make Jesus cut his hair? Say want you want about the man, he turned a franchise around, and, considering he only spent $180,000 of his own money for a team that is valued at close to $2 billion today, he has a grasp on one of the best investments of all time.

George Blanda was definitely an all-time great, stepping in often to fill in for Darryl Lamonica/Ken Stabler etc... when needed and doing a good job at it into his late forties.  I remember having his Topps football card and it being one of my favorites because he resembled a younger version of my grandfather....only wish he would have been a Steeler and not a Raider   ;D

In reference to Sam Bradford's contract: "According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, that number is in the neighborhood of $50 million. Compare that to the $41.5 million guaranteed that the Lions gave Matthew Stafford in 2009 and it's evidence that rookie salaries continue to rise."

And it's evience that rookie salaries continue to rise?!?!

Did no one learn a lesson from JaMarcus Russel?

I'm a huge Brady Quinn fan, obviosuly because of the Notre Dame obsession, and was absolutely disgusted with Russel since LSU troucned ND in the Sugar Bowl 41-14.  But there is no question he had the athletic abilities; he could throw a football 60 yards from his knees and 80 yards without moving his feet. Now that without a doubt brings into the question, what makes a good quarterback... But along those same lines what makes Sam Bradford, or any # 1 QB worth that type of money, or any guaranteed money.  I've heard a lot of talk about the whole "it takes 3 years to mold an NFL quarterback" and I believe it 100%.  But then why does every team spend outrageous amounts of guaranteed money for unproven quarterbacks?

There's a number 1 pick every year (obviously lol) and since the merger in 1970, there's been 18 quarterback taken as the first pick.  And 10 of them in the past 13 years. However, the most recent 9 picks are as follows:
Tim Couch, Mike Vick, David Carr, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, Alex Smith, Jamarcus Russell, Matthew Stafford, and Sam Bradford

Three of the players on the most recent list have made it to the playoffs. (33%) One had made it to the a conference championship. One has made it to the superbowl and one has won it. (11%)  Out of the last 9 quarterbacks taken # 1 overall, 66% of them haven't even been in the playoffs, and 89% of them haven't been to a championship or superbowl.

So can someone please please please tell me why Sam Bradford deserves $50 million? Or even a better question, why the Rams are going to pay him that? What separates him from Jamarcus Russell, Tim Couch, RYAN LEAF? A wunderlick? "Smarts"? Maturity? Game experience? I mean, come on!

By the way, Dree Brees, the Superbowl winning QB and 2010 athlete of the year; his contract is worth 6 years $60 million.

Just re-read Andrew Lovell's 2009 Kick-off feature, "Alfred due for a breakthrough," now being used as a teaser for Kickoff 2010. Solid evidence that this site's online Kickoff is not only the most thorough source of D3 football information but also the most prophetic. (No mention of Alfred in any football mags in 2009....same in 2010.)

And, while 2009 could be defined as a "breakthrough season" for Alfred, as projected by Kick-off 2009, Pep is mindful that the Saxons have their work cut out for them if they are to repeat their 2009 appearance at the party...and bust a move on the 2010 dance floor. Many dancing shoes to fill.

I read the feature again also then immediately paid for Kickoff 2010.

Hey 'z00....does Mrs. AUKaz00 know about this?

I'm not even sure how to respond to that.  Can I get a ruling from TheGrove on what an appropriate response to that question would be?  I'm guessing it's "no comment" so I'll go with: No comment.

AstroTurf is torn up at Merrill Field. Pep has reserved a patch of the carpet from his neighbor who is lining his bocce box with it, with Pep getting the excess.

Meanwhile, work continues on foundational concrete piers for the grandstand.
