I caught some of the Fisher scrimmage today. They look Big and Athletic. Moved the ball pretty well, and only gave up 2 first downs while I was watching (about a quarter and a half). Kicking game still looks shakey. More to come soon.
GO FISHER!!!

Cards,
If the kicking game has improved even to the point that I can trust a PAT it will be a big step.
Injuries and poor play plagued special teams last year.
Was hard to watch on many an occasion.

sjfcards

Well they had one pat blocked, and missed another. They did hit a 32 yarder right before we left. #90 has a big leg, but he sprayed it around a bit.

I dont get it.
2 years ago special teams were a mere afterthought.
Now it is a concern....Cmon already...we worry about 6- not one!
Here is to hoping that it straightens out :P
I dont want to go into the regular season with issues in the kicking game!
Unless Vos plans to beat ppl by 21!?

Caught most of the intra-Alfred classic this morning.  It was another bloodbath for State who "won" something like 34-7 over AU's JV squad.  All of the damage was done in the first quarter as I think it was 24-0 after 15.  The Saxons did get a couple interceptions late in the game, but I'm not sure what to make of that since it was second string JV against a second string NJCAA squad.  A boy came dream though...
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

I don't understand how college teams can't get a few guys to snap a ball, put it on the ground and kick it through some uprights.  We're talking COLLEGE teams.  It's messed up.  I see the HS teams around here and the extra points are gimme's...and they can hit them from 40 regularly.  For some reason, there are college teams in all divisions that just can't figure it out.  Baffles me.

Bombers had an intersquad scrimmage last week and another this week.  Cornell got on its high horse and didn't want to scrimmage I'm told (new coach).  It's not ideal to only have two intersquads but I suppose you make do with what you have.

Actually, Cornell's issue was that they're so thin after the first and second teams that they didn't want to scrimmage and get people hurt because the options after that are pretty ugly. Apparently, they're really concerned about it.

As for IC, from what I've heard, the offensive line has looked pretty porous. And the QB position isn't exactly settled, and not in one of those Montana-Young ways but a Buffalo Bills "Are you SURE Jim Kelly is retired?" kind of way.

Bombers have made some adjustments on D, but the offense is not looking in mid-season form.

OK, sorry for the delay in the report on what I saw yesterday at the Fisher/Mo'ville scrimmage. I was planning on reporting more yesterday, but the Styx concert at the Fair was calling my name.

It was tough to get an idea of who the new players that will make an impact were, since there was no rosters available, and the Fisher webpage did not have numbers for the new players (I can give #'s). I was most impressed with a running back (#13). He was taking the reps with the first team, and looked to have a quick burst, and was able to  break tackles and move the ball. He looked very good. I am not sure if it was Kramer, or who it was, but he looked good. The transfer from Kentucky Wesleyan did not play. I think he was on the sideline, but again, I could not tell without a roster.

Fisher was lining Zemaitis up in the slot, and he caught a few passes and looked comfortable and smooth in that roll. It is probably a way to get as much talent as possible on the field.

The O line is BIG. They protected Bailey all day (I think there was only one sack even though it was one hand touch on the QB's). The offense moved the ball every time they had the ball, and was able to put it in the endzone on most drives (only one punt). The receivers looked good (no drops that I remember). Nick Adrian looked great running the offense with the first and second team. Bailey is still the clear starter, but Fisher has some depth there.

On defense, the first team defense looked big and athletic. They were able to stuff the run all day against Mo'ville's running game, but I am not sure how much was Fisher and how much was Mo'ville's inability to move the ball. They got to the QB on several occasions. The secondary looked good as well (one pick). They did not allow much in the passing game, but again, Morrisville did not look like Texas Tech. Most throws Mo'ville made the reciever was well covered, and sometimes had double and triple coverage. Quick to the ball is how I would describe the secondary.

The kicking game was questionable again, but no botched snaps on punts or field goal attmepts. #90 has the leg, but needs to kick the ball straight. #89 can kick it straight, but can't hit from distance. They rotated with the first team yesterday. Punting game looked average.

I did not see much from Mo'ville, but Fisher did look very strong. I sound like a broken record, but the term that keeps coming to mind is Big and Athletic. They looked fast as well. Talent will not be the issue this year, but they need to find a way to score in the kicking game. Overall, I was impressed.
GO FISHER!!!

An article posted over on the LL board by 'a fine mug of pbr'th' that I thought was interesting. I get more and more disgusted by this type of attitude and behavior every year. I think that is part of the reason that I have been drawn to D3 football.

What does everyone else think:

Cards- thank you for the insight on the scrimmage!
I checked the web page and no numbers were listed for newcomers- but i would assume that indeed that 13 was Ryan Kramer.
He was a HUGE get for Fisher.
All state QB - with the ability to play numerous positions. His feet are the most impressive!
One question- without sounding biased- was Fisher that good - ore was Mooville that bad?
