Looks like Brockport is no longer competitive with most teams in the East Region from what I read of last night.  Kind of depressing to see how far they've fallen since I was there.

On the other hand, Fisher looks like they have it going strong.

If it's the starters throwing the ball all over the place up a bunch it's one thing...

If it's the back up QB actually getting some live work in it's another...

Fisher's offense, which Utica runs a similar version of it, is a spread passing offense.  To ask them to just go to a ground only game is like asking Springfield to run Hartwick's offense...

Yea, SJF may just be that good.  But it looks like Brockport is losing the Rochester High School recruiting battle to SJF (as is Ithaca).

I'm also still intrigued by the SUNY system and who gets what in terms of coaching salaries, facilities, etc.  I mean, if you had to rank the d3 SUNY football facilities on a scale of 1-10, Cortland would be a 10 and Brockport and Buff State are probably a 3 or 4.  I haven't seen Brockports or Buffalo State indoor facilities but I assume they are the same as they were 15 years ago.

boys
if you are in a first game of the season scenerio- you are still working out kinks and evaluating talent.
if the 2nd or even 3rd stringers are in-you want to run em.
yes - scores in the 70s seem excessive- but tell that to UFlorida a few years back........

I would rate Buff State even lower than Brockport in terms of all around football facilities, but yeah -- it's weird.  And the indoor facilities, when I saw them last year still look pretty much the same as I was first there in 2000, so there really have been no upgrades.  Looks like Cortland got all that money.

I get that their offense is designed such that their running game is essentially the bubble screen play over and over and over....again.  However, sooner or later, an all around potent offense must be able to go to its run game....and be effective with it.  Havent looked at the stats from yesterday, so maybe I am off, but I do know there was no sign of a consistent, power run game to wind the clock down.  Perhaps even scarier was the fact that Bailey was carrying the ball on designed runs with a 4td lead late in the 3rd.  Talk about a recipe for disaster.

Overall, was a very impressive win and they looked pretty sharp for week one, minus the numerous dropped balls.  Wow, Bailey's numbers would have been even more rediculous had we not dropped 6 passes right in the hands.

In December, should their be one, every contender will have a power running component.

As I was leaving, I looked towards the 'Port sideline and thought that Rocco Salamone must wish he had a time machine to go back to the mid '90's in when he was Vosburgh's daddy.

Or 2000-2003 when they actually made the playoffs.  Whatever they're doing isn't working anymore.

82.. You reminded me of a point that i was going to make yesterday...Why the hell is your star senior qb running naked up the gut in the 3rd?
Honest to god- if that was an audible - id lay into him and give him a few dozen laps to remind him about how long the season is... Holy crap-- all it takes is one bad tackle..

Now that we have all been able to digest what we saw this weekend, who had the most impressive showing this weekend? Fisher rolls brockport, Ithaca wins big despite missing several starters, AU wins big at home, Utica hangs 78 on someone. A lot of options for team of the week.
GO FISHER!!!

sjfcards

I should not forget Springfield rolling on Friday.
GO FISHER!!!

Cards- I think it was great for the league as a whole to come out of these ooc games undefeated.
It shows health in the league and should bode well down the road.. As for performances of the week- I only saw two games so I dont have much to go by....But the Fisher game did make me feel pretty good about the coming season.

Looking at the results, even though dlip was only able to view the Wick/Moville game dlip would say:

-SJF really seemed to come out strong and dlip concurs with f91, he should feel good about the coming season  :)

-Springfield did what they needed to do at home period

-Ithaca started slow but the difference in score was enough to convince dlip, while missing some key players, they have the ability to be for real.

-Utica????? Well dlip won't argue with that amount of points even against a week NEFC opponent, congrats to Utica for sure.

I watched the Ithaca game all the way up to Ruggerio's TD run.  If I was an Ithaca fan I would be a bit worried with their performance.  Their run game was bad, i mean really bad except for their two TD runs.  The Larries shut down the run for 98% of the game.

fisheralum91

I think that all teams are a work in progress, yet some have more work to do than others.
Fisher needs to improve the punting/kicking game and improve on the case of dropsies it had.
IC- Running game
Wick- Secondary

Thats all I heard- beside UC runnin up the score.
Springfield was strong at home--no kidding.
AU solid game- but didnt hear much else.

Next week should tell more.
Im looking forward to it already!
