Dammit I always miss out on the karma love sessions because whenever people dish them out my last post was always a few pages ago.  I have no dignity so to those who are wondering if that was my attempt to jump in and get some sympathy karma dap I will save you the time...It was.

I think any scenario regarding Fisher finishing 10-0 will not come to fruition.  Like I've said before if their defense doesn't improve from what it currently is (I'd say slightly above average at best) I can see them finishing something like 8-2.  Offensively this may be the best team we've fielded but 2006 was better overall.  So if Gordon is correct in his prediction and Del Val finishes 8-2 as well...Bring on dem Purple Boyzzzz.

I think they're better than what you've said so far.  Their not the 2006 Defense but their no slouches either...

Did you see that SJF held Bart to 0-10 on third down last week?

SJF finally get's back their DE in the starting lineup in Sawyer this week so you'll see a ton of pressure out of him and Rhone vs Utica!

serving +k for lunch today...around the horn

Pep would like to serve up some +K or grilled burgers and beer but Pep's grill, much like Pep's Bandwagon, belongs in a trash pile heap. So here's the +K sans burnt burgers and warm beer.

Where are these two losses coming from? (Man, I sound like a Fisher fan)

Ithaca? Yeah, we've seen that movie (and running game)

The Wick? Could they even hold Fisher under 70?

Frostburg? Yeah, they've played good teams. And lost to them all. Their only win was against an 0-3 Christopher Newport. Allowing 40 points a game is not going to endear me to their chances against Fisher.

Utica? Don't see it yet. Fisher's too talented on offense. Utica may catch a team like IC napping, but not a team that can score like SJF.

So that leaves Springfield and Alfred, and while both those teams could win, I think it's a stretch to say both are going to take SJF down. Alfred's been squeaking by teams for two weeks now, so I don't like their chances against a team like Fisher

Looks like Booby has a case of the "setting the bar low knowing you will blow right past it" going.  Who knows...maybe they go 8-2...but that would be a shock...and would pretty much eliminate them from the NCAA conversation as they would be looking at a 3rd place finish in the E8.  Unless the committe goes all 2007 on us...we aren't getting 3 teams in again...

I'm not saying that they AREN'T as good as advertised, but really SJF hasn't beaten anyone yet.  They thought Hobart might be the real deal, but i'm not convinced of that.  They could be in the same pile up with Ithaca, Alfred, and Springfield again.  It's entirely possible that they will go 10-0, but not out of the question to go 7-3 either at this point.  This league definitely excites me more than the LL this year, that's for sure.

One interesting thing I noticed a few weeks ago was how some school districts across the country are set up.  In Massachusetts,  99% of the towns have their own high school, and if you live in that town, you go to that high school.  The towns have generally had the same boundries since the 17th century.  Then I was watching a Hoover, Alabama game and looked up the town on the internet.  The town of Hoover is in two counties and is basically a gerrymandered/segragated section of Birmingham.  Really kind of a wierd setup.

But LD I don't think Massachusetts high school is that much worse than it was 10 or 20 years ago.  The biggest difference now is that there are more Catholic Schools that are putting a focus on football (Catholic Memorial, St. Johns Prep and Xaverian) and the ISL is really stepping it up in recruiting public talent (BBN, Lawrence Academy, Roxbury Latin).  In fact, back when we played, BBN would probably compete with the Brockton JV team.  Now they would win the state championship easy.

Plus people in the northeast just aren't interested in High School football.  Its a kids game to many people.  I also attritute some of that to the liberal atmosphere of these Massachusetts towns.  My hometown (Brookline) a town of 60,000 people you could probably drive around on a nice summer day and not one family would be outside grilling.  You don't know your neighbors, most people don't take pride in their communities, kids are at PSAT prep classes instead of afterschool sports, and people in general are nerds.

Most MA kids are pussies nowadays.  I think that is half the problem.  What happened to the tough kids that enjoyed playing football and smacking each other around?  Now they play video games, get fat, and listen to their ipods and make sure to NEVER make eye contact with anyone.

And on goes the pussification of America...

We could always blame it on Janet Jackson.

I agree, but have you been drinkin'?

ipods and the like are a huge reason for the problem.  Utah may not see people grilling, I NEVER see kids playing a pick-up (unsupervised) game of football or baseball here in Boston......sad.

Yeah, but to be fair, when my buddies and I played pick up games we didn't exactly do it in the middle of crowded streets where creepy old guys from Union were cruising around. If I recall we mostly played before school or at the park behind Wegmans... the only thing we did in the street was hockey, and that was only on the side streets. i don't think the situation is as dire as some of the crotchety folks are making it out to be.

Driving by Everett High School or the parks along Storrow, I see pick-up soccer or frisbee being played......footballs and baseballs are pretty much non-existent.

I am very crotchety though.....

Even after Fisher beats UC-they have to beat one of the traditional conference power teams to make sure that they are for real.
If after the 9th Fisher goes undefeated---as Pat and Keith said- it should be smooth sailing for the cards.

Interesting idea, Jonny, but I am going to take issue with one thing; isn't Brookline one of the wealthier(est?) cities in the Boston area? Perhaps it's more of a class thing; football isn't seen as a rich kid's sport, like hockey or something else. As far as liberalism I'm pretty liberal and love sports, and most of the other liberals I know either like all or no sports (unforunately, mostly the latter. save me!), they don't really discriminate from sport to sport.

I'm not sure what the things you're describing (that I've bolded) have to do with either liberalism or football players. What you're describing sounds an awful lot like my girlfriend's hometown in orange county, CA, one of the wealthiest and most republican counties in california, where NOBODY talks to their neighbors (i know, i've tried!). i think the liberal focus on education over sports is a valid point, but republicans in OC anyway are just as standoffish--and produce a LOT of pro athletes.

In sum, I guess I'd say as far as Mass goes I'd blame it on less focus on sports at that age, and let's not forget the weather.

I used to think it was about wealth, until I moved down to Texas, when I realized that success at HS sports is about culture. I used to think that Texas football was about small towns out in the middle of nowhere, where the only thing to to was play and watch football. Now I realize that EVERY town is crazy about football. I live in a very wealthy town (Highland Park), yet Highland Park High School has the most wins in Texas HS football history. EVERY adult talks about the last HP game, or the upcoming opponent, what the rest of the state looks like, etc. ALL THE TIME. These are successful lawyers, doctors, businessmen, etc., yet they live and breath HS football.

So I agree, it's about focus, or culture, and not about wealth. It's why lacrosse is so big in Baltimore, Metro NYC, and Upstate NY.  Frankly, the focus of kids in the Northeast is on academics, with sports seen as an integral part of helping to teach children life lessons. In Texas, sports is the focus, especially football.

I agree with this.  People used to be proud to be from Brookline, or Waltham, or Weymouth, or Malden, or Medford, or Somerville, or Melrose, or Woburn, or Lowell, or Lawrence, or Billerica, or Chelmsford, etc etc etc....Now, everyone cares more about having a nicer car than their neighbor and could care less if their HS sports teams beat their ancient rival neighboring towns.  Yuppies have taken over the Northeast.

Come on now, no one is proud to be from Lowell, Lawrence or Chelmsford.
