Quick question about Lycoming that I think I am missing...Why do people show them such reverence?  I keep hearing how they are a quality opponent.  Looking at the website, past records don't go as far back but their record has been 4-5, 3-7, 7-4, and 4-6.  Not exactly a powerhouse.   Let a booby in on the secret!

Pep is somewhat familiar with Lycoming only because back in Alex's day, the Saxons often scrimmaged the Warriors. Lycoming has a solid reputation in football and regardless of season record, the Warriors always are competitive. Much like Ithaca, Lycoming has a solid reputation and since starting football back in 1947, the Warriors have 12 NCAA Tourney appearances (finalists in 1990 and 1997), 14 MAC titles and an all-time record of 324-214-11.

Some schools were playing football long before St. John Fisher College was holding classes.

Lyco is one of those teams that you have to be ready for every year.  They will punch you in the mouth if you aren't ready.  The MAC is a tough conference that is very competitive like the NJAC and the E? conference.

Easy Pep...I asked because I legitimately didn't know and it always seemed odd to me the way people talked about them despite the fact their record proved otherwise since I've seen them.  I can always count on you for a history lesson though.

Sorry if that came across a bit "edgy." Pep just thought it interesting that he found the Warrior football program started in 1947, exactly one year before St. John Fisher College was founded.  ;)

In regard to your comment in the East ATR article -- the Bombers had everyone back last week so they aren't really battling injuries.  They missed a bunch of players in the Lycoming game but all were back (except one lineman) including their starting LT who has been out all year.  So injuries aren't an issue this week.

I think along with a lineman they were also missing Gilfedder and Clarke.  And Ruggerio went down at the end of the game.

They were missing both....and both are good. Seriously, this team is STACKED at linebacker. The best part is, Gilfedder, Clarke, Toporoff and Carter are all back next season. That is phenominal stuff. Actually, I think the Bombers will be flat out nasty on defense next season. Both corners (White and Conti) return, as does Schlenker and they may get Owen Kulger healthy. Tough to score on them next season

Fingers crossed on Kugler.  Nothing easy about returning after back surgery.

Hope they get some size at DE then, if you're trying to play the 3-4 w/ 230lb DEs it doesn't matter how good your LBers are...

If your DE get's blown off the ball in the 3-4 the ILBers have almost zero chance at making a play...

Yeah, the Bombers have tried to overcome that by blitzing a lot, with mixed results

I LOVE the possibilities with the 3-4, but you need the right personnel to run it.

You need 3 space eating guys at DE and NT that can play a 2 gap scheme in order to run it right.

Sure you can run a gap oriented version of it and hope to cause confusion but it's just not as effective, especially if one of the guys on the line gets pushed back.

It looks as though they have some size at NT this year which is good but he's canceled out w/ the smaller DE's (for a 3-4).

Let's face it, they won't miss Ruggerio. It'll probably make them stronger. I'm not going to miss a guy with 50 carries for 171 yards. Ardoin received the bulk of the carries last week and looked much better. And with only 65 or so carries this season, he's hardly going to be gassed. It's too bad that Ruggerio's battled injuries, but the reality is, he was just ok, and his 2008 looks like a product of their offensive line.
