Titan?
I dont recall that one.
Arrived-not yet.
Better than you think- yes.
UC will likely finish 3rd or even possibly 2nd in the E8.

I think it was before they played fisher... Somebody listed it as a clash of E8 Titans... not here on the boards... in an article or report or something... but i do think it was brought up here and discussed a few weeks back

Your crazy...third, at best...but hardly likely.  I think 2nd place is dreaming...though you are now DC's new best friend...

I think they'll beat two of Alfred, Ithaca and Springfield.

I think they match up well against their remaining opponents...

If their defense has some solid games they could very well take a couple of them down...

With what I saw vs SJF I am almost positive they'll take at least one of them down...

Ok,
UC has IC, SC and AU left on the schedule right?
If they indeed take out 2 depending on who the 2 are- third place is legit!

I am not disagreeing that they couldn't possibly win two of those games.  I just think it is unlikely.  SC has only one loss (to Alfred) and has buried everyone else (including a pasting of Wilkes, who Utica looked terrible against).  Alfred has been steady...and beat Springfield.  And if you think that IC is going to shut it down for the year, I would look to last year when it looked like they were going to get beaten up only to punch back and take out undefeated Alfred and Cortland in successive weeks at the end of the year when everyone doubted them.  Plus, IC gets Utica at Butterfield.

Again...could UC win two...sure...why not?  But in order to get to 3rd place in the E8, they have to win two...and I just don't think it is likely, especially considering that they have never beaten Alfred or Ithaca.

Dlip, you have to remember that UC's Head Coach is very familiar with SC.  He knows how to stop that offense, he proved that when he was at SJF and even did so in his first season at Utica.

They have the offense to win a shoot out, if their defense gets a couple stops UC will be in the drivers seat.

I think Utica is going up vs an Ithaca team that is ripe for the picking.  They don't have a run game this year and Ithaca is having an up and down year on Defense.

Most baseball players are familiar with the fastball...but it doesn't mean that they can hit Stephen Strasburg's 104 mph pitch.  They (Utica) just don't have the horses...yet...

Maybe...but even upsetting Ithaca and then losing to the other two (SC and Alfred) means they finish 4th...I mean, good for Utica, but no one really cares...

Also...they still have to play Hartwick...if Utica is a trap game for Ithaca, is Hartwick a trap game for Utica?

AS8, when did you play.

05-08... I graduated in 09.

My freshman through Junior year I backed up Keeley.  Saw a little playing time but never started.  Played some special teams.  My senior year it was between me and Secky and he beat me out for the starting job.  Got some playing time.  Loved every minute of it even though I wish I could've played more.  Came to AU and played with two of their best QB's ever so it was a great experience.
Thats a very well adjusted and realistic answer... I really respect that.  You don't hear that much... usually its a coaches fault or somehow you got screwed.  But kudos to making it through all four years contributing where you could and sti;ll having a great experience.  plus k

Agreed...it always makes me laugh when people talk about some high school kid going D1, and when I see them play I laugh because I know that they wouldn't make it on many D3 teams.   Sometimes kids get stuck behind great players...and there is nothing wrong with that.  Some of the very best players I have ever personally seen at the D3 level in just the state of NY (Boltus - Wick, Robinson - SJF, McGovern/Gilmore - RPI, Fox - SJF, Berry - Alfred, and quite a few others) were absolute beasts, and nearly impossible to beat out.

Thank you Bo Sox and Yanks, I really appreciate that!

There's another thing we haven't discussed. IC-Cortland is a huge game, and I wonder if kids check out mentally after losing that game and knowing they're stuck with ECAC's. Three of the four Bomber ECAC wins (Including the last three) have come after winning Cortaca. The one loss came in a season they lost Cortaca.

Excellent point. In IC's case, an ECAC game after Cortaca is actually a letdown. Alfred, meanwhile, does not have a season-ending rivalry game such as an AlBart or a HoFred. The Saxon season ends usually with just another game in Week 11. Right now, that game is Utica, which could be much more interesting this season, but not on the level of a Cortaca.

12:04 AM Pep? Geeeeezzzz! Burning the candle at both ends!!

Kids definitely mentally check out. I think that might even be the case with a win.  My senior season, we knew before we beat Fisher in 09 that we were most likely going to be in an ECAC. Beating Fisher in OT would've been the perfect end to the season, at least that's how I feel.  We did all the senior ceremonies at home and throughout the week at practice.  It was sort of supposed to be the culmination to everything.  Then, the following Tuesday, we were out there practicing again.  It was a really weird feeling.  And that's not even on the scale of Cortaca.  I can't imagine the weeklong preparation and ceremonies for that game.  And then to lose it would be even worse.  But to win it, then have to play another game, it almost makes it feel like a scrimmage I guess.  It was bizarre.  It's incredible to be able to play one more game, no doubt about that.  And especially against teams you wouldn't normally play.  But there's a certain energy there in that final week and to suit up again after that, win or lose, and not be in the playoffs, it's a little lackluster.

Then again, in 2005, when we beat Fisher at home and got to play in an ECAC game when we feel we should've been in the playoffs at 9-2, we were on a mission to prove to everyone that it was a mistake we missed the playoffs and destory whoever we were playing.  It's weird how it works out...

good perspective....did you play 05-09...were you red-shirted?

EDIT...NEVERMIND, YOU ALREADY ANSWERED THAT.

Great perspective that I appreciate as my son was a walk on, dare I say it in this room, at Cortland as a freshman.  Just loves the game and proud to be part of the team.  He played their JV schedule in his freshman year, had a brief stint as a back up on the DL in his sophmore year with some limited time on the field.  This year, he's got a 5th year senior ahead of him and and another senior so he's stepped on the field maybe 10 times but he wouldn't have it any other way.

Several players quit this year that he's friends with and they asked him several times why he didn't quit.  He told them someone would have to drag him off the field.  This has been a great experience for him and he's making lifelong friends.  His ultimate goal is to start which he had hoped might happen this year but that's not panning out so he's got his sights on next year.  He takes a great deal of pride being the only remaining walk on from his first year and every Wednesday night he calls to let us know if he made the travel squad which he has each away game so far.  It's a small but important to him victory each week.  He realizes that he's playing on a team now very different than HS.  Instead of being the star, he's got 99 teammates who are all very good players and they too were stars on their HS teams.  He thrives on the challenge.

Have been to every game he was ever in even when there was little chance he would step on the field.  I've talked to other parents of players who don't start and many say they won't make the trip next week, what's the point if he's not playing.  I just don't  get them.  He traveled down to Glassboro today with little chance of playing other than going in for goal line D.  My wife and I are heading out first thing in the morning to see the game.  We are so happy that he's playing a game he's so passionate about and we couldn't be prouder of him even if he were starting each week.

Great insight Phil...

My parents went to all my games while I was in Junior College (Alfred State), when I got to Fisher I was starting my first year there but blew out my ACL/MCL 5 games into the year.  They still showed up to the games even though I was on the sidelines sporting a knee brace and crutches...

They knew it was important to me so it was important to them...

I feel bad for players who only support their kids when it suits them...
