I think Fisher was in the E8 when I was a sophomore in 2001. I know they played IC that year, but I'm not sure when the league formed.
GO FISHER!!!

This is kind of an embarrassing gap in our collective knowledge, ain't it? According to my pristine Ithaca College Football 2009 Media Guide, Ithaca's first year in the E8 was 2002; they were independent before that.

According to the Empire 8 website, the conference itself has been around since 1999 (at least under that name with 8 members: IC, SJF, AU, RIT, Naz, UC, Elmira, and Hartwick.). Not sure when it started as a football conference....

The Empire 8 started recognizing a football champion in 2002.  Unless it's the NESCAC, that's a good proxy for thinking about when the league formed.

http://empire8.com/documents/2010/9/17/Empire_8_Champions.pdf

Teams membership tenure in the Empire 8:

Alfred: 2002 - Present
Hartwick: 2002 - Present
Ithaca: 2002 - Present
Norwich: 2004 - 2008
Springfield: 2004 - 2011
St. John Fisher: 2002 - Present
Utica: 2002 - Present

So Sharpe played in the Empire 8.
Coming attractions:

Buffalo State: 2012
Frostburg State: 2011
Salisbury: 2011

Why are you guys all sweating this arbitrary and fluid E8?  Maybe I'm getting old, but I think in terms of NYS Schools plus some New England, PA and NJ ones that are typically seen on one or more schedules.

Schedule back when I played (not in order, and I 'aint that old):

Dickinson
F&M
Union
Ithaca
UofR
SLU
RPI
SJF
Alfred
Hartwick...

Throw in schools like Springfield, WPI, CGA, Rowan/Cortland, Brockport (our preseason game back in the day), Lyco, Kings and a few others and that was the world for a typical upstate program pre Pool A nonsense - not that long ago.

I mean seriously, how much of a hard on can you have for a conference that has lost a couple of schools (Norwich, Springfield) are picking up some random strange from the mid-atlantic for a few years and then figuring out if you want to include state schools?  These conferences (and the LL, MAC, NJAC, CC and others are guilty of this too) are built out of convenience, not out fof some uniform institutional mission.

And, bc I'm a homer for HS teammates, IC's candidate should be Abe Ceasay or that thick necked LB, Rich something I think, from UE that played with Isiah Kaczevyski (sp?)

ha..funny you say that, because I originally typed in my post that I thought it started in 2002, but then didnt want to embarrass 82's self with whacked out info, so I deleted and just decided to pose the question of what year instead...guess I shoulda trusted my recollection....

way back in 82's playing days the sched. went something like this...

West Conn
Alfred
Hobart
Jersey City
Hartwick
Catholic
Brockport
RPI
Buff State
Theil

...mix in a Galludet, St Francis (Pa), UR and Salve Regina on any given year...

Technically, Ceasay was before the E8 formed, although the kid was legit...I might go Felliceti for Ithaca though

Plus Brady the one man wrecking crew isn't going to be playing defense for Alfred this weekend.

NEWS FLASH!!!     NEWS FLASH!!!     NEWS FLASH!!!     NEWS FLASH!!!     NEWS FLASH!!!
This just in from Mayberry: It has been reported that the Bioengineering Department at Alfred University had experimented with a Brenton Brady blood sample this summer and, most remarkably, concocted a gamma globulin that, when injected into the bloodstream of another individual, results in transformation of the recipient into a nearly perfect derivative.  It is further reported that the supply of 100 doses of the gamma globulin are missing.

I know it's been said on here but the wind was a huge factor in the game vs RPI...

Taken from Dew's ATR article...

Into the wind-
AU: 29 plays, 66 yards
RPI: 26 plays, 81 yards

With the wind-
AU: 51 plays, 303 yards
RPI: 37 plays, 208 yards

You're welcome. That was a project I wanted to calculate for Statistical Spotlight but ran out of time on Monday for it.

Ran a mean option with Parker and Scott in the backfield.  That was one of the best Ithaca teams I have ever watched.
