Yeah I think 2006 was good for keeping us high in the rankings throughout 2007 and into 2008 but I think it was more than just 1 year that keeps us around in the eyes of others around the country.  First off is winning NCAA tournament games 3 years in a row.  You take notice of the teams who are in the tournament not just exiting stage right immediately.  For instance people notice Delaware Valley more because of what they do come tournament time than a Curry.  I guarantee you if DVC lost in the first round every year nobody would care if they are running through the MAC because nobody cares when Curry runs through the NEFC.  Second is going to the final four and the elite 8 kind of put us in the spotlight to be occasionally covered in articles such as Around the Nation and other d3football.com entries that people read outside of just the East region.  I mean are you a regular subscriber to the Around the Region for the Midwest?  Probably not...So the recognition and familiarity that comes with that also helps.  Bottom line I think there are a lot of factors that come into play that seperate Fisher from Alfred in terms of a national perspective.  But hey just keep winning, and win in the playoffs, you'll make people notice.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... There should only be one team that is recognized above the rest... And that's Notre Dame  ;)

you have to remember that it wasnt just MUC that they hung with that got them notariety.
It was the way they got to the final 4....
They CRUSHED the "Beast of the East" Rowan....That wasnt only a signature win that season- it was a program builder.

I agree with this sentiment, that it was the entirety of the playoff run in 2006 that garnered national attention for Fisher.  Now, you could argue they were fortunate that Rowan knocked off Wilkes so the Regional Final was at home and the weather played right into Fisher's hands.  Pep and I made the trip up to Growney to support our E8 breathren and I remember how the days preceeding the game it was in the upper 50s (70s in Glassboro) and it was like 25 out at kickoff.  Just thinking about the Profs making an 8 hour drive, getting on the bus in summer-like conditions and off in winter made me confident that Fisher would win and they straight up dominated.  Shoot, I was pumped when Alfred shut out Widener 37-0 in week one, I can't imagine getting a result like that in the Regional Finals.  And they backed it up the next week in Alliance.  Hopefully everything breaks for the Saxons in similar fashion this year...

I'm very interested to see the Utica-Alfred game this season. If Alfred beats the Bombers--and I suspect they will, given that the game is at Alfred--it will be interesting to see how they respond to a Utica program that could very well be 7-2 heading into that game. Last season, Alfred rebounded from Ithaca nicely, but this Utica team looks a lot stronger. With the exception of the two Wick games the rest of the conference slate holds no gimmies for anyone

About this weekend's game.  Rochester has won once.  Are they having lots of injuries or are they just not very competitive this year?

On Saxon Warriors!!

I think it might just have something to do with that water in the 585...  ;)
