Ithaca sure looks pathetic every year against Fisher.

That must be the tape AU gets every year!

No, Upstate, the reaction would be different because we've seen it happen before. It seems like almost every year since 2002 IC has started out ranked in the top 15 and always always drops out, because the polls mean nothing. Like it or not, our history gives us a boost in the poll. So those of us who know our history doesn't mean squat in terms of this year know that the poll doesn't either.

I'm with tecmo. Why is this such a big deal? And why shouldn't Fisher drop out? I think all that means is that other teams maybe had more impressive wins than yours over Frostburg. You'd have to have scored 70 for your win at Frostburg to be "impressive."

And let's say the poll did reflect strategies for putting teams in the playoffs. What the committee sees is a team that had a couple good runs three years ago, but since then has pooped the bed in three straight years against the same team that loses to people like RPI and UR, or hell, even a crappy version of IC. So that team, if I live in Oregon or something, sounds like a team that would poop itself in the playoffs too.

I'm sure you disagree with what I just said, but one thing that should stand out is that the poll is flawed, and never won't be. One, obligatory whiny post from FA91 is appropriate. Two pages of it is ridiculous.

I totally agree with everything you said here and see/understand where you are coming from.

However no one said that it matters in the long run and most are just saying it doesn't make sense to win by 30+ and drop out of the poll.

Yeah, but isn't the "votes" total really what's meaningful? Doesn't that give a more accurate reading of what people think "of" Fisher than their position in the polls, which is more about how Fisher compares to other teams?

I agree that the UR offense came out in a completely different look than Fisher, however vs Fisher they were preparing all week with Oniruyka and lost him in the 1st quarter, so they had to run the offense they practiced with.  I'm not sure if UofR has been evolving after the game or just came up with that offense that week...

Pep that still doesn't explain the AU offense that looked befuddled for no apparent reason.   UofR is not very good on defense, you'd figure with Secky throwing as many times as he did that the offense would have scored more than 14 points...

Ithaca hasn't been ranked in the Top 15 in our preseason poll since ... damn, 2009. Oh well. Got us there. History of the preseason Top 25's, starting with 2003, for Ithaca: 9, 13, 17, 24, ORV, 18, 10, ORV.

A poll can't be perfect, especially if teams don't perform consistently. Keith spent an ATN discussing that

This is all I'm saying. This fits in with all the Boise State talk too; if you want a legit ranking of teams, you have to have a pro-type season where everybody plays everybody. And even then....

Ithaca has had a few years recently where some star players did not return the next season for various reasons.  That has hurt them.

mmmm Fisher dropped out of the top 25 (they are number 26) and were jumped by Rowan and Cortland...Alfred losing caused Fisher to be jumped by them no doubt, so thanks for that.  I believe Rowan and Cortland to be two very good teams but I don't think they are currently better than Fisher.  Oh well, such is life.  I think if Fisher wins next week over a solid Springfield team they will jump back in.  Goooo E8!!!

Unless I'm missing something the D3 football pool means nothing, especially towards the playoffs.  Why does anyone care?

Man you guys have been reading into that post a little too much.  Not begging for respect, not mentioning it in relation to the playoffs.  You guys are overanalyzing the Boob.  I just like seeing Fisher ranked...makes me wake up happier in the morning.  Makes the sun shine a little brighter.  I remember when Fisher was ranked 4th in the Nation.  That tasted good.  I think if Fisher wins on Saturday they will get a Pool C even if they are not ranked.

Hey Pride!

Secky has truly turned out to be an enigma.  We've seen games where he performs like an All-American and games like last saterday.  Early on he was throwing passes behind his receivers, at their feet, and into triple coverage.  At the time I told Pep it would have been smart to let Kilcarr have the next series.  The great thing about college football, and I think D3 moreso than the higher levels, is that these young men are still maturing, so anything can and often does happen.  I think I remember reading that we don't fully develop the portion of our brains that preemptively reconciles consequences for our actions until we are 25.  Perhaps learning to consistently perform to your potential by failing a few times is a better life lesson than going 10-0.

And give credit to UR; they had a great game plan, executed it, made adjustments and their front four absolutely dominated defensively.

Guys I know there have been a sickening amount of discussion related to the East region and playoffs recently...but I just thought of something.  Next year is Springfield's last year in the E8.  But next year we welcome in two new members.  You do know what that means don't you??  Dream matchup!!

Salisbury vs. Springfield.

Oh it's going down.  How long will the game last?  An hour?  Will the NCAA record for most rushing yards combined in a game be set?  Will my head explode watching it?  Will I even watch it?  Discuss...

It'll be like a pee-wee football game with a running clock. Will they even bother bringing defensive backs to the game?

It will be cool to see.  I really like that Salisbury is joining the conference, it would be nice if they stayed beyond the two years.  They are pretty much identical to Springfield in terms of the quality of their teams throughout the years.  Buffalo State which will join in 2012 is on the same level as a Norwich at this point and Frostburg is probably a touch below them.  So overall I think the strength of the E8 will lower by just a little bit.  The top will be just as strong if not a little bit stronger with Salisbury...But the bottom of the league will need some work to say the least.

The Gulls will clearly contribute to the soldi foundation of the E8 and help the strength of the East Region as a whole.
