I was responding to a specific rationale for not having video, not today's particular game. Pat already mentioned that the NCAAs have control over today's game, not UMU. Manuel Willocq is not the first UMU poster I have seen use this rationale for not webcasting games, or for tape-delaying games.

EDIT: In fact, my response is not even directly about UMU.... just about limiting teams' access to game video at this level.

Any games down the road for an opponent of UMU will include this game so that rational that others may have posted is incorrect.

Next year will be an interesting year for the E8 with Alfred the clear frontrunner for the conference. I have no idea what to expect from Ithaca.

Yet another season with no one challenging UMU....Might as well just give them the bye to the semifinals!  :P

Alfred's D-line, and linebackers were top notch.  Alfred just didn't have enough firepower, and the Mount D is playing extremely well.

Just got back from the game. I thought the Saxons defensive was very good and simply wore out with the offense being so ineffective.  Nick Clark is an exception LB.

Congrats to Alfred on a fine season and an extended playoff run. I'm sure they will be able to build on this season and I fully expect them to be a perennial playoff team.

It was also great to meet some of the Alfred faithful. Safe journeys home.

I was just throwing that out there as a possible reason.  I have no inside knowledge of that decision at all.  I emailed the Mount Union SID about internet streaming and posted his response on the OAC board if you want to see that.

EDIT:  I understand the Mount Union rationale for not showing live internet.  But the selfish part of me wishes they would still show it for those of us who don't live close enough to go see the games live.

Alfred defense deserved a better fate today.  Clark is a stud and the D-line was a rock.  Turnovers were a key and RB was something like 20 carries for 30 yards or less....Saxon offense just couldn't get it going.

Mount offense was totally out of sync first half, and I give Alfred credit for that.

Congrats to Alfred on the fine season and good luck next year.  With only one senior on defense and a lot of your skill positions back on offense, the Saxons have the makings of a very good team.  Take care of business and you might be the team that keeps Mount in the North next year instead of the East.

Your defensive front 7 was very, very good.  Especially the LB's (Clark, Smith and Pieri).  Easily the best set of LB's we've seen outside of Whitewater.  Your secondary struggled with the Mount receiving corps, but there aren't many D3 secondaries that can cover Cecil Shorts and Co.  No shame in that.

Offensively, the Saxons couldn't control open any running lanes for Dywer, but did a good job in pass protection.  Much better than any team we've seen so far this season keeping the QB upright.  Secky appeared to play OK (first INT was because WR fell down / 2nd was bad decision after staring down his target), but wasn't helped out much by his receivers.  Quite a few passes dropped on 3rd down that would have kept the chains moving.  The lack of a running game killed the Alfred offense today.

Final score ended up about 7 short of what I was expecting, which you can hang on Mount's QB having no idea where the ball was going in the first half and the Alfred front 7 completely shutting down the Mount running game, especially between the tackles.  Only room Mount had to run until late in the game after Alfred was worn out was outside on stretch plays and even those were only getting 3-4 yards.  Nice job by the Alfred defense today.  Was clear to see why you beat Cortland.

For those that thought Delaware Valley was the best team in the East Region, you're wrong.  It's Alfred.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Congrats to Alfred,

Young team with alot of potential, no doubt a conference winner and playoff bound next year. Your team never quit even when down, a good hard hitting clean game. Be proud of the Saxons! :)

Agreed, but how would you feel about Mount Union going into the playoffs if they lost to Otterbein and Heidelberg this year?

In your scenario in 2010, I'd feel like absolute crap.  However in 1980 before the LK run began, I'd take a couple playoff wins anyway I could get them.

Alfred has nothing to be ashamed of in their performance today.  Mid-season losses to middling LL teams shouldn't / can't happen next year if Alfred can bring the same effort to the field all 10 games next season as they brought to Alliance today.

I saw a well disciplined Alfred team today, and a well coached one. They came ready to play. Though I'm sure it was frustrating, they never displayed on or off the field. You should all be proud of them.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Great game today by the Saxons.  I can only echo what others have said about the Alfred D:  a very good D line, impressive LB's, and very crisp tackling.  The Saxon offense struggled, but then the Raider D was lights out today.

Congratulation on a great season.  I expect to see you make a deep run again next year.

this is the UMU faithful that we have come to know.
you are with very little exception a knowledgable level headed loyal group.
enjoy your teams success- and understand its rarity.
good luck and I hope another e8 team gets a crack at you next year!
