Pep is getting pumped up for some Pep Band...was perusing JWPepper.com for some new tunes for the band since we've got some money left over in our 2010-11 budget.

Seriously thinking of Grand Funk Railroad's "American Band." Any requests from posters?

With latest news of Corps of Engineers' diverted, dike management flushing through "Big Mo," how about a rousing version of an updated Zeppelin classic performed once your Saxons gain a two+ TD edge?

So this version lacks the power surge of Jones, Bonham, etc., Krauss is much easier on these, old eyes.

Now we have entered the dead zone for college athletics.
Im not going to wish the summer away, but this is a really sparse time of year for sports nuts!

Sparse time of the year for sports nuts??

Tell it to this man...

Let's go find the 7 people that care about the NBA  ;)

pg04 i couldnt have said it better!

Come on now, don't hate.  Nielsen ratings for the Superbowl is currently around 40 (highest ever).  NBA finals is around 10...this could be due to the fact there are potentially 7 games to watch instead of 1 to win it all in the NFL.  Game 7 in the NBA finals last year had a rating over 15 for instance, so a large increase.  But by your logic if the NBA has 7 people that care about it, the NFL has between 25-28 max.

I'm a huge Celtics fan and would watch a random NBA playoff game before I would watcha random baseball or hockey playoff game.  Of course I would watch the Red Sox or Bruins over a random NBA team.

Personally, this is the BEST time of year for college athletics. NCAA lacrosse tourney underway in DIII, starting tomorrow for DI, culminating in the best weekend in college sports: Memorial Day lax final four, D1 quarterfinals on Saturday, DIII and DII championship games on Sunday, and the DI championship on Monday. Throw in the NCAA baseball tourney in Omaha, what's not to love?

Plus a lot of Upstate NY teams in the mix, Cornell, Syracuse, Sienna in DI, RIT, Cortland, Union, still alive in DIII, and LeMoyne in DII.

Well, the NBA has been fortunate to get teams like the Lakers and Celtics the last couple years. But overall, the ratings have dropped significantly.

From 1997-2002, 31 of the 32 games earned at least a 10.0 rating, and 19 of 32 earned at least a 12.0.
From 2003-2010? 11 of the 46 games earned at least a 10.0, and only 3 of 46 earned at least a 12.0

Sure, when you get a Game 7 between two major market teams with a great rivalry you'll be in good shape. But you can't always bank on a long series and two highly compelling teams.

pg04

Well obviously I didn't mean SEVEN people exactly  :P.  Anyway, I'm much more of a hockey fan which has abysmal ratings compared to anything else.

boobyhasgameyo

Ha, I know what you were implying.  But sports goes through their ups and downs in popularity.  Baseball was king...now it is football.  Basketball was pretty popular during the Jordan era and it is building its way back up right now (though a lockout should kill a lot of momentum).  I'd be interested to see if the NFL will remain the undisputed most popular sport for as long as baseball did.

fisheralum91

I agree about the Lax tourneys but it really is short lived--and btw LeMoyne is out- they got the shaft this year....After memorial day what do you have?
NBA finals-bleh
NHL hockey - greatest sport live but horrible ratings
Baseball-lets face it -Its May

At least its summer and I can work on the handicap.

Pep is just exited for the incoming Saxon freshman recruits and also grateful that Gatto isn't out on the road recruiting for AU. Pep can't wait 'til Saterday, Sept. 10!
