QuoteThe education part is relevant. Obviously, at any institution, some programs are easier to get into than others, but you are going to lose kids that way.

dlip agrees with this statement to an extent. Yet, if he remembers correctly, this opinion has been hammered by many in the past as not being a legitimate reason why a team may lack success on the field. Maybe this will stir up the debate again; maybe not. Just something dlip noticed on a Sunday morning that's all.

Yeah, look, it's not like IC is Cal Tech here, and it's clearly not the only reason--or even a main reason--but I think you lose a few kids that way is all. I think there's a handful of factors that all play into it, this being one of them

Well said bombers.

I'm hearing good things about the size of the Bombers' offensive lineman, apparently, they've bulked up considerably. Also hear that there's some very good size from the freshman, although this will be easier to confirm when the rosters come out.

Considering the Bombers had three players who, according to the 2010 roster, averaged 230 pounds, this is a good sign. Obviously, size isn't everything for linemen, but the Bombers were lacking in it big time last year

Hi Guys,

Long time reader and first time poster.  I'm a big SJFC fan and I'm hoping for another good season from the Cardinals.

Couple things i heard that I haven't seen on here:

1.Fisher pretty much killed the Gold color from the uniforms- Heard they Went with White Helmets with Cardinal Logo on them over the solid Gold.

2. New Defensive scheme for Fisher this year.  I Heard they are more attacking and faster than previous years

Good Luck to all this season and I look forward to the many discussions ahead.

I have heard the same regarding a possible new scheme, although I laugh any time any coach says his defense will attack more, be faster, be more aggressive. Nothing personal SJFC (Welcome to the board BTW), but I feel like every coach says his defense is going to be more aggressive this season. It's like hearing, "He's in the best shape of his life" about a guy in the preseason (Exception: Eddie Curry)

Not saying it's not true vis a vie Fisher, just that I bet we could find something similar for every team

Oh so they have decided to abandon the "We can't stop the decent teams from lighting us up" scheme...that's probably for the best.  As long as the team also abandons whatever the hell that TERRIBLE chant was during every 3rd down I will be a happy man.  Made them sound so stupid, especially when the other team was converting 85% of those 3rd downs.

I agree re the yard sale but it worked to perfection vs. Hobart last year....The Statesmen went 0 for 10 :(

Speaking of new unis, the Cards seem to be setting or following a trend (see LL thread).

That is horrible...and as an Ithaca fan, I know a lot about lame chants...

I was referring to the ooga-booga chant. I actually liked some of the FDC's chants. The Boondock Saints one after a sack was classic. If only there was some other dialogue from the film not laced with profanity

When you came away feeling better about the Bomber offense, I was hoping you had heard some positives about the line.  Like I said earlier, I feel there's quality depth at wideout, and still the possibility Hendel and Ardoin could be very good.

Strange the roster hasn't been posted yet... I look forward to reading the new names in the program.

Kick. Off.  Thanks for ruining my productivity, D3Sports!

And is there any chance PG04 will be at Alfred-Port scrimmage on Saturday?

Here's the positives on the line: They are a lot bigger. As in, existing players and new guys checking in 30 pounds heavier than the guys were last year. They might be younger too, but that's inconclusive. I can't speak to if this will make them better--but let's face it, you can't get worse then last season's line--but that's encouraging.

I don't know Jason Hendel. He might very well be the nicest guy on the planet. But last season, he lost out on a QB battle to a guy who was going to give you one season, and now, he's battling again with another unproven entity. IDK, things can change--Josh Felliceti didn't win an open starting job against a guy who struggled so much, IC moved him to the other side of the ball a year later, and all Felliceti did was re-write the school record books--but Hendel has yet to really step up in my opinion.

As for Ardoin--look, the line was bad last season. Terrible. But Ardoin had only two carries over 20 yards all season--one of which came in garbage time against St. Lawrence. That can't be all on the line can it? Sure, he would have done better if he'd had a couple of holes to run through, but even with the line play, I can only get so excited about a guy who had 373 yards rushing on 105 carries.

The Bombers are stocked with talent at the WR position. They really like Ingaro, most notably.

There's a lot of uncertainty on offense, to be sure. But, I think the passing game will be solid, and there's simply no way they'll get less from their running game then they did last season. I expect the offense to be better.

But I'm more excited down the road. I hear good things about the types of kids the Bombers are bringing in, and I think the new facility will help with recruiting. I think McDonough will bring about a positive change in defensive play. This may be a transition year. The schedule is harder than it was last season, IMO, both in terms of the teams they play and the way it's set to unfold.

Week 1 won't tell us much. Unless things have changed significantly, Brockport looks to be awful all around. But Week 2 at a Union team that put a late scare into them might give good insight
