What a great day in Mayberry!  The weather was great and the thrashing of SLU was fun to watch.  It was nice to see Pep again, and it was nice to meet AUKazoo.  I'm hoping to catch at least one more game in person, but I'll be following Coach Murray and the boys.  Good luck AU!  On Saxon Warriors!

Is there any report of how the crowd was at the Fisher U or R game last night? The write up said 5,500 people, but when they play in that stadium that can look empty. I am just wondering how the atmosphere was in the downtown stadium compared to last year/when they played on campus?
GO FISHER!!!

It's September, so it must be time to dust off my D3 Boards handle. Glad to see Alfred is doing well. Though, the games at St. John Fisher and at Ithaca scare me to death. Hopefully, Alfred can run the table and win the Eastern Region Championship. And by win the Eastern Region Championship I mean, losing to Mt. Union in the playoffs. :)

(Off topic a bit, I live in Oregon and everyone out here is a huge Ducks fan. A Ducks team that is currently under investigation by the NCAA for allegedly paying for players. I tell all my friends that if you want to root for real amateur football, follow Division 3 football. If you choose to follow Division 1, then just recognize that almost all the schools pay for their players, even the team you love the most.)

Great atmosphere last night at the courage bowl.  The crowd was decent and the Fisher faithful were very loud.  That stadium did seem a little empty but I am not sure what the seating capacity is.  Great night for an even greater cause.

Rankings after Week 3.

1) Alfred: No surprises here. The Saxons did what they were supposed to do for a second straight week.
2) Salisbury: Christopher Newport is a solid program, but the Sea Gulls were lucky to escape with the win. The gap between #2 and #3 narrowed considerably this week.
3) SJF: Big, big win in the Courage Bowl. Rochester came in off an impressive season opener, but couldn't get anything going against the Cardinals. Next up is Hobart, who will have had three weeks to prepare after their 2011 debut.
4) Springfield: Did what they were supposed to do against Husson, and benefited from Frostburg's upset win over Utica. This coming week is the big test, though, as they make the long trek to Alfred.
5) Ithaca: The question it seems IC fans will have to answer every week is, which Jason Hendel will we get? The good one managed the Union game effectively, made some plays with his feet, and did enough to stake IC to an early lead and keep it. It was a nice rebound win on the road, for sure.
6) Frostburg State: One of the biggest wins in program history today, as the Bobcats outright smoked Utica at home. The tests keep coming, though, as they get undefeated Randolph-Macon next weekend.
7) Utica: Obviously a week the Pioneers want to forget. Not only did Frostburg State dominate the game, but suddenly, the win over Union doesn't look nearly as impressive. The bye week comes at a good time, as they'll need to shake this off before October 1st's date with Salisbury.
8) Hartwick: Good revenge win over Norwich. Still, though, it's Norwich, and there were some definite holes (namely the nearly 200 rushing yards allowed).

A very good and accurate post here for sure. Nice job!

Come from behind...gamewinner with 14 seconds left...5 consecutive scoring drives in the 2nd half.  sjfcards it's obvious you know a good team when you see 1. 1 Helluva a game.

Go BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Just getting around to the board after an events-filled weekend.  It was great to meet Sarge and to see my old roommate back on the boards chirping.

The Larries look like a good squad.  Too many mistakes (like back-to-back fair catch attempts on kickoffs?!?) and disadvantage at a number of the skill positions - except RB; Washington is a stud.  SLU's greatest strength was their line play, on both sides of the ball.  The final score could have been a lot closer or a lot wider, so I think the actual score was a fair representation of both teams' ability.

But now it's Week 4 and those pretty E8 records are gonna start looking uglier.  I'm glad we get the Pride at home this year and here's to hoping we keep them from walking away with the league trophy!  On Saxon Warriors!!!
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

The 5500 number is what it is....however, 5500 in that 15,000 seat stadium greatly takes away from the atmosphere.  Instead of having a packed stadium with college kids on the hill at UR or lined standing around the endzones at Fisher you have an 'empty' sterile stadium with subdued noise and energy.  I didnt go downtown last year, but I did this year and I was disappointed.  Certainly if 10,000 showed up it would be different but I dont think that is going to happen, especially if SJF wins the darn thing every year.  I would note that Fisher seemed to have the crowd advantage by about 65-35 percent despite UR alumni stature in Rochester versus Fisher's and the overall student population.

One thing from an atmoshere standpoint thta stood out was the UR band sitting all alone in a dark empty enzone section like they were the Freshman football team practicing off in the distance of the Varsity.  In the past at Fisher, their band was a noisy energetic part of a jam-packed set of stands and now they are rendered obsolete at the large downtown stadium.

I am not sure what the colleges expect as far as turnout, but if they think this thing is going to get 'bigger', i think they are mistaken.  The idea is great, but the crowds are never going to get bigger for this.

As for the game....that might be the most un-inspiring 52-3 thrashing I have ever seen.  UR was just pathetic and I dont think this game proves anything for Fisher.  I will await AU to smack them in the mouth on play one in 2 weeks and then see what they got....

They have no base offense unless you call hiking the ball to a running back (he even wears #21), and watching him scramble around until another 'Ryan' gets open for a completion, an offense.  It worked against UR, but AU aint intimidated.

That post had kind of a downer vibe to it, but I tend to agree regarding the atmosphere.  I also agree this wasn't the best test for Fisher and that the offense is just off this year.  That may be strange to say a few days after Fisher put up 52 points...but screen after screen mixed in with qb scrambles may get you past some of the middle of the road teams and even some of the better regional teams like Salisbury/Alfred/Springfield but if the end goal of every team is to win it all then you just know that isn't going to fly against the top level teams in the country...so why implement an offense thats absolute heighest ceiling is like a 3rd round exit in the big tourney?  I don't get it.

Cmon 82 and boob.....We are 2-0.   Good god...
While I agree that UR wasnt a great test, they played well.
The offense will grow and develop.  Look at the improvement in just one week.
Wow...Hope to see you both at the game Sat!
