What I'd love to see, and I know this a virtual impossibility given your guys' workload, so I'm just throwing it out there as a sort of "I'd love it if Olivia Wilde were madly in love with me" thing, is a points scored/allowed breakdown. Be interesting to see.

Would also love to see a breakdown of records for teams within a conference. I am sure MUC and UWW pump up their conferences numbers. In the WIAC how much of the winning is St. Johns vs everyone else? (This is not a knock on everyone else, I am honestly curious).

Did a quick breakdown for the MIAC:

SJU                            21-9  Losses to Pacific Lutheran, Trinity (Texas), Central, Coe, UWW (3), Mount Union (2)
UST                            6-2   Losses to Linfield and Bethel
Bethel                         6-6   Losses to Pacific Lutheran, UW-Stevens Point, Wartburg, UW-Lacrosse and Mount Union (2)
Concoridia-Moorhead    2-2   Losses to Occidental and Linfield
MIAC Champions: 1924, 1992

I could see this game winding up being as nervewracking as last year's Linfield/Bethel Linfield or Bethel playoff games if SJF comes out physical and causes turnovers.

For whatever reason, UST has great ball security during the course of the regular season and then at some point during the playoffs things go askew. If UST eliminates turnovers and Tracy avoids forcing the ball to Waldvogel I think they'll be okay.

One thing I didn't like from UST was having Tobin run 39 times against Monmouth. I know the 52 player roster hamstrings what you can do schematically in the playoffs, and you have nothing to lose this late in the season, but when it's nothing but Tobin/Waldvogel/Tracy in the stat line, it makes you look like a team with no faith in anyone else.

Uh, They played both.  Linfield, then Bethel, which is the team they lost to.

wesleydad

wow, some actual talk about the football game without any ridiculous insults and useless comments.  very good reading and points made by both sides in the game.  I think that is what we expect when we come on here, not to be insulted and read childish boasts about a team.  I saw Fisher play and lose to Salisbury, that lose does not look that bad now with the Gulls being in the final 8 also.  The triple option is a whole different animal from a normal running game.  I think Fisher will be like Bethel and physical enough to force the Tommies to do something else more often then they are used to doing.  If that is not the strong suit for them then this will be a good game.  I will be interested to hear who plays QB this weekend for Fisher.  There is a chance that they may just be better on offense with the backup at QB and Kramer at his natural position, RB.  In the end, the turnovers will play a huge part in the game, if Fisher can be even or + they have a great chance of winning.  Negative and they have little chance.  Waldvogel looks to be very fast so stopping him on special teams will be of the utmost importance.  May have this game on the split screen mode along with the Wesley/UMHB game as they seem to be the better 2 games of the 4 although all could be good.

And I was referring to the fact that both of UST's games were close against those teams. In the playoffs. Not that Bethel and Linfield played each other.

Great stuff. The WIAC was more balanced than I had thought. I expected SJU to have the lions share of the wins, but did not think everyone else would get to 14. Mostly because some really good teams would miss the playoffs when they lost to SJU when they were really rolling.

My favorite thing about this weekend is that Fisher is playing a WIAC team. "The Sweet Season" is one of my favorite books, and even though Fisher is not playing SJU, it is still cool to see another team from that book. I have been trying to get out to a UST/SJU game for a few years to see what that atmosphere is like.

Being from Cortland, and having a family of C-State alums (plus an IC grad as a wife), I love me a good rivalry game. SJU is supposed to be great on any weekend. Someday.
