Sigh.  You can say all you want about Division 1, but at least they don't have the same two f*cking teams playing each other in the championship game every year.

I don't care what type of flack I get for this, but it's boring.  I don't want to hear the crap "someone beat them"  We're fans, we have no control over who beats them.

I 100% agree with this. It is not an unfair thing, or anything like that, it is just boring.

Agreed.....BORING

Looks like St. Thomas didn't fare any better than Salisbury - both losing to UWW by 20 points.

Good job to Wesley, thought they had a legit chance to pull the upset today.  That would have been exciting.  The semi finals are pretty much the championship games for the rest of D3 now.  At least we get two of them  ;)

When Wesley watches game film they're going to kick themselves as they will realize they beat themselves - they lost the game, MUC did not beat them.

It was St. Thomas first shot in the Semis - did not expect much from them.

It seemed like MUC's victories this year weren't as big of blowouts this year than in prior seasons. Maybe the gap is starting to close.

We need an East power.

UWW gets the ball with 1:07 left and up 20...

They take a couple of knees to kill the game...

Classy UWW!!!

I have had time to think this over and I still feel the same way.  I will most likely not watching on Friday night.  With the fact that my team isn't successful and a lack of parody overall, I have found myself becoming less interested.  It is what it is, and maybe I have been sucked in a little bit by the D1 culture I currently live in.  I know there isn't anything to be done about the purple powers, as they win fair and square.  That doesn't mean D3 fans everywhere aren't bored with it.

I deliberated much less than pg- I make no bones about not liking the 7th Purple game.
While we all know that this is going to happen until somebody knocks them out, the reality is that minus those viewers from Wisc. and Ohio, there will be many more of us that wont turn the game on.
Would I have watched if Wesley knocked off Mount---you bet!

wesleydad

hey guys, like the conversation.  sorry my boys didnt get it done yesterday so that you could have watched the game.  I will be going, more for the friendship with Stone Station and some of the others that I have met through D3 then the game.  I dont find the game boring per se, but certainly would be nice to have new blood in it.  One way to have that happen is for the other 2 regions to get good enough to force the NCAA to seed UWW 1 adn Mount 4 so they meet in the Semis.  Until that happens there is not much we can bitch about.  this year was great with how the made the brackets, but in the end we saw that they are still better.  I think Mount is coming back to the 2nd tier and UWW may also take a step back with Coppage going, not sure what Blanchard is.  Right now, I think UWW is in a league of their own with Mount a step ahead of Wesley, who is a step ahead of UST, UMHB and several others.

I agree. Regardless of the scores of Mount's games, the end result is the same. Will I still watch the game? Yeah, because well, it's still two great teams, and watching them play football is enjoyable.

But here's my question, and while I'm sure the Whitewater and Mount guys will disagree, it's what's on my mind: Does it matter who wins this game? When two teams are this dominant, for this long, it's just them passing the title back and forth. One of the great things about getting new blood in is that you get to see a new team bring home their first title, and you can see how it changes a program (Wesley's great, for example, but how much would winning the Stagg elevate the program in future years?) There's nowhere for these programs to go. They're already at the upper, upper, upper echelon.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a downside to losing. With other teams you always wonder, "Will they be back?" You wonder if the window is closing, or if the loss will hurt them in some way. Again, with two teams this well-established, if Whitewater beats Mount again, it's not like it's going to signify the start of the program backsliding.

Right now, with these teams, it's more like, "Oh well, we'll get em next year." In short, I feel Mount and Whitewater are just playing a rivalry game that happens to be scheduled for Week 15.

I don't know, I feel like the same championship game every year is rife for parody...

Thought the weekend's games were pretty telling. There's a definite walk-before-you-can-run aspect before a team can challenge the top tier. Teams with programs that can sustain themselves  take a few tough licks from the big dogs before they can challenge the very top.

SJU had some rough early meetings with MUC, Linfield had some heart-breaking defeats vs. SJU. Wesley had some learning experiences at UWW. The Wolverines learned, got stronger and now now are the undeniable number three after giving Mount all it could handle.  As for UST, the jury is still out, but they at least got the big-league baptism (and I've got my personal biases.)

The exception to this pattern is UWW, of course. And it simply is a remarkable program, going from 7-3 to seven straight Staggs. They were impressive yesterday from game-planning through execution, playing one of the more flawless games I've seen.

Would have loved to have seen new blood, but these are two fine teams and should be a great game to watch. That said, my probability for this Stagg dropped to about 50 percent. Had either of the newbies made it, I would have had reservations by now.

Until weird Al does a song about d3 I will contend that there is a lack of parody
