The Cardinals finished Spring Ball today.  I saw 4 or 5 of the practices and the team and coaches were working very hard.  The most organized and efficient practice program I have witnessed.

Looking forward to a season with a lot of promise yet some questions too.

I was talking with someone in the Fisher athletic department who said that Kramer (the OC) will have some more gimmicky stuff in the playbook, and that his brother will probably line up all over the field. Not sure how much this person would know of what the plans are for the offense but he is typically spot on with stuff like this. It may depend on what they have at QB to start the year. From what I understand Ryan Kramer was going to win the QB battle even if the other kid did not get hurt, so he may be their only choice.

Great get for them!

Any information on him?

One of the top players in Sect V (NY), great kid with a strong arm. He comes from a very strong football program in Hornell.  The competition he has faced is not all that tough though.  He was lightly recruited by SU, made a couple visits.  I have seen him play and he dominated Sect V football in NY. It will be interesting to see how he does competing against top talent at the DIII level.

Yeah I saw they won like 39 straight games, which is pretty absurd. Still, he's an upgrade over Hendel...

He could possibly be a 4 year starter for you guys.  When was the last time you guys had a guy at QB that has started multiple years?  Juvan?

I don't think Juvan started 4 years but Fellecitti did.

Fellicetti was kind of a 3 1/2 year starter. He started six games in 2002, partly due to injury, partly due to a Bowie over Jordan decision to begin the year with Ryan Steenberg at quarterback.

Juvan started three years.

I think the larger point is dead on that stability at the QB position lends itself to success. In fairness to Ithaca, Brian Grastorf (59% completion, 22-11 TD/INT) and Rob Zappia (57% completion, 19-8 TD/INT) were both solid, and, in fairness to Hendel/Nuemann, their offensive cupboard was pretty bare outside of Dan Ruffrage. But it's not something you want to make a habit of.

Upstate is right, he can be a 4-year starter. In fact, frankly, there's no reason he shouldn't be. The current quarterback situation is dreadful, and of the two, the one who showed the most (Hendel) is a senior, and Neumann is a junior, but neither of them have any experience anyway. I'd heard that Hendel was supposed to be the guy in 2010, but the off-season work wasn't there, and that's when Zappia passed him. Maybe things would be different if that hadn't happened, but those guys have what, 150 passes each?

And, really there's nothing to lose. The program has backslid to the point where honestly, a year of growing pains isn't an issue, where it might have been in, say, 2010.

But, until and unless the Bombers fix that offensive line and get some speed on offense, a new QB isn't going to fix the problems the program currently has. Can't win it on his own
