Pep,
Any word on our scrimmage this year?  Hope it's at Merrill since we only have three home games. >:(

So I'm sure this has been discussed, but seriously, how does AU get so many football players?

According to the school's website, there were 325 males in the 2011 freshman class, and according to the team's roster, there were 98 freshman on the 2011 team. That means that just over 30% of the incoming males joined the football team. By comparison's sake, Ithaca has 60 freshman on this year's team (according to my sources) but has basically twice the male population, so a little less than 10% of the incoming male population joined the team.

As in, "What else is there to do up here, I might as well join the football team"?  ;)

That does seem like a crazy high number. Has that always been the case at AU, or this more of a recent trend?

(Legendary) Coach Alex Yunevich one year spent all of $3.28 on recruiting, likely for postage. His way of recruiting was being the speaker at high school athletic banquets all across the Southern Tier. And, he had an alum (and long-time university trustee) on Long Island that sent a bunch of Port Washington boys to play football at AU. But some years, Alex was lucky to have 50 suited up. As good as a coach as he was, he had his lean years.

Before Coach Dave Murray, Pep doesn't recall AU ever having 100+ in the football program. Pep has accused Murray of being an assistant to admissions director. Pep believes the big numbers have occurred only in the past five or six years. With the increase in numbers, he's expanded the JV schedule to include eight games so kids can play. And, with AU's success on the field (eight consecutive seasons with post-season play and at least 7 wins), there's more interest in the program. And, as 'z00 said, Location. Location. Location.

Get the fight song ready!

So in advance of the Thomas More/St. John Fisher game opening weekend --

what are some things as program under Vosburgh that point to the team playing well?  Playing poorly if..?? (Sorry Pat, stole your Playoff Capsule Formula)..

We're pretty excited about Thomas More stepping out of conference/out of region like this to play a road game at a perennial playoff team..

Welcome to Pittsford, NY!!! As a Fisher fan I know I feel the same way about having Thomas More come to town. Fisher has gone out and scheduled quality teams in the past (MUC comes to mind), and I think both teams will benefit from the game.

Any Thomas More faithful making the trip to Rochester?

I'm sure there will be a good representation of the kids and some alumni.  I won't be able to make it however, I'll be on the lake in Georgia.  I'm hoping there's an internet connection to be able to keep up with the game.

Most Fisher games are streamed online, so I would guess there will be a video link. If not Fisher's radio guys do a really great job. Check the Fisher page the week of the game, and they will have links to whatever coverage will be available.

Any Fisher fans planning on attending the scrimmage on the 25th?

Debating a Fisher road trip actually. It's nice being able to go to a wheelchair-friendly stadium once in awhile. At Butterfield, I'm always worried my brakes will go out as I'm trying to get down the hill and I'll kill someone. Any Fisher fans got any recommendations for good places to eat out there? Also, if I go, I'll probably sit on the home side, since it's easier to get to. I'm not trolling, so please don't throw things at me. Bringing food over, however.... :)

Yeah I plan on going...

Probably going to stop out to practice early next week to see how they look...
The views expressed in the above post do not represent the views of St. John Fisher College, their athletic department, their coaching staff or their players. I am an over zealous antagonist that does not have any current connection to the institution I attended.

You'd think!?! Guess the Saxons are traveling down to the 'grove to scrimmage Susquehanna on Saturday, August 25. Didn't catch the time, assuming it will be 1 p.m. or thereabouts, but didn't ask because, quite frankly, Pep isn't likely to take an additional road trip. :D

Besides, the band has got to Get the Fight Song Ready!

I heard this kid was good.  Looks like he could be a decent returner down the road if he bulks up a little.

On another note, some spinless coward is spiting me every day inbetween the hours of 12am-7am.  Bastard.  Could be some punk from the politics board but I don't say too much there.
