That Ithaca is "donating" wins to Fisher...

Cmon guys,
Its Friday before gameday.
Where is the chatter?

I can only speak for myself. Really, it's kind of a cruddy opener for Ithaca. Coming off the worst year in school history, mass defections a quarterback is the main offseason story line, on the road, against some team that there's no history with, and who was also pretty bad last year.

In two weeks, they'll be more excitement. Union's always a fun game, and they'll be solid this year, and it's at Butterfield, and maybe they'll be a glimmer of hope that the team will not be quite so bad. But right now, I'm more interested in Michigan State's game

The Ithaca website usually has a nice writeup before each football game.  I don't see any for this game?

I'll tell you what.  Ithaca should be doing a lot more with that football page.  Show some photos of a full stadium.  Make a small documentary on the Cortaca game (a good one).  Show guys lifting with some Metallica playing in the background.  Show a hitting drill in practice with some coaches and guys screaming at each other.

Ithaca 50
Moravian 3

So what you're saying is that they should continue to live in the past and hope it helps with recruiting?

Are you sure you guys want to beat Fisher sometime this decade? Doesn't sound like it!

Besides Metallica, does anything I said have to do with the past?  I know SJF has never played any football games with over 10K people watching, but Ithaca still does every year they play regardless of record.

Week 7 prediction
Ithaca 70
SJF 2

They get 10K people at that game because 80% of them are there to get drunk, not to watch some antiquated football program try to play football...

Well look at the crappy schools they are forced to play now in the league.

Yup, clearly it's caused Ithaca to play to the level of their opponents as they've went from 7 to 6 to 4 wins the past 3 years...

I'm going to say that trend continues and they'll top out at 3 wins, only because the rest of the E8 is dragging them down of course...

They will come out of the hole pretty soon.  Once Ithaca fans realize that SJF is a college and not some sort of Catholic Charity, more support should help.

For now I think some touches to the website will help.

Utes--Im sorry but Catholic Charity?  Maybe im dense or having a "need a beer" momment..But what the hell does that mean?

When people ask me who Ithaca plays this year in football, I list off the schools and they always stop me after I say "SJF" or "St. John Fisher" and they laugh.  They think "Saint John Fisher" is some hospital or charity that has a football team made up of patients or charity workers.  I have to tell them its a small Catholic school in the Rochester area.  Then they laugh some more.

I don't usually tell them that Ithaca loses to them all the time, because that's even more laughable.

I guess Im missing the joke.
Sorry.
I must have missed class when they told us that Ithaca was an Ivy League College.

Not really a joke.  Just that no one has really heard of SJF in the Boston area.  It doesn't really mean anything.  People in Boston aren't really the brightest people in the world either.

They haven't heard of Mount Union or Wisconsin Whitewater either if that means anything.

I'm looking forward to drafting former Alfred State WR Rod Streater with my final pick tomorrow morning, heading over to Band Camp and streaming some D3 football all afternoon.  The first saterday of the year is almost here!
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

They proly don't know of any Catholic colleges outside of Boston College and Notre Dame.

Thomas More vs. John Fisher.....a couple of "saints" duking it out at Growney tomorrow. Pep may be ringside.

Yeah, but Hendel quitting may have actually helped the team. Wait...crap...

We're not nearly high-strung enough to be an Ivy League School.

I think you are probably taking this whole conversation too seriously.

I live in GA and Ithaca is probably one of the only D3 schools (that isn't Lagrange, and even that's questionable) that anyone would have ever heard of here (as I stated a couple weeks back, along with some of the highly rated academic schools).

And the fact that there are schools that exist below the D1 level seems to baffle some here  :P

One day, when I interned out in L.A. I was reading a book on the UCLA campus wearing an Ithaca football shirt and some guy comes up to me and goes "How are the Bombers looking this year?" Strange.

Yeah, not even remotely close.  However the quitters at UofR is a completely different story...

I'm sorry but I don't have a lot of respect for this decision.  Say what you want, I understand the kids choice was his.  But my senior year I battled and ultimately lost to an incoming freshman (secky) and believe me, I wanted to quit.  I felt I had won the job.  But it wasn't up to me.  It was the coaches decision and what was best for the team.  But either way, you gut it out.  It's about the teammates, friends, and family you've made over the course of your career.  When it comes down to it, this kid could have contributed some way.  He didn't need to be on the field taking snaps to be a leader.

Just my $.02
