I was comparing the last three years of both teams, not UC's last 3 years vs. Ithaca's storied history.
I never thought anyone was saying IC was a world-beater, just saying don't throw stones vis-a-vis the last three years.  To Utica, beating Ithaca is a lot more than beating Husson or Castleton or Becker, I don't care how "down" Ithaca is. Beating Ithaca does matter to Utica because Ithaca has always been the better team.  Winning at Union and RPI is more than beating Husson, Becker and Castleton.
OK, Utica sucks because they still haven't beaten (fill in the blanks), but Blaise is trying, blah, blah, blah.
You just sound gratuitous and smarmy when you talk about Utica.
I missed the reference to a 2005 game......

I don't understand how stating facts has gotten twisted to "throwing stones." I'm also not sure how Ithaca's record got dragged into this either. We're talking about Utica, but, maybe because you aren't happy with the facts people are pointing out about the Pioneers, you decide to mention the Bombers' recent struggles. Why? No one's talking about Ithaca.

You missed the reference to a 2005 game? This entire back and forth started in response to my comment about a Utica win over Springfield in 2005. This comment.

"Not to go too far off discussion - but with some recent talk about Utica breaking out in the E8 I just happened to run across the UC v Spr'fld score from 2005 when UC won 34-33.  Looking back that far, it is something to notice here in 2012".

I'm sorry if you find the compliments to Utica backhanded. They're not meant to be. I never said, however, that Utica "sucks," simply that talk of their "arrival" is premature, based on their history of not beating quality teams.

Honestly, I don't know what you expect people to say about Utica. It's undeniable that Blaise has made progress, but it's similarly true that Utica's just not that good. What other conclusion can we draw from their body of work?

I'm not saying you can't be psyched that Utica beat IC last season, and have beaten RPI, Springfield, and Union. But that doesn't mean everyone's going to just nod their head and agree. I don't blow smoke up people's ***. I call it like I see it, but I approach it the same for every team. I have zero axes to grind.

Saxon faithful.  I thought we shoud begin the conversation about Homecoming and Ithaca.  Chuck Beckwith's performance notwithstanding, I have been more impressed with the defense than I thought I would be after key graduation losses.   Discuss.

That game's going to be very interesting. Alfred's running game is going to be tough to stop, especially if the Bombers are without Will Carter at linebacker. But I think Alfred's going to need better QB play, as well. This game could go either way, and the winner is probably the darkhorse in the E*

It seems Alfred has finally gotten away from a more balanced offense to emphasizing their current strengths.  I'd love to see how they'd match up with RPI again now that they're reliant on the run just as I wish I could go back and have Kilcarr start against Fisher last year, but that's water under the bridge.  It should produce a lower scoring game, so either team will have a chance at victory down the stretch.  Sopak has seemed to play better now that he's shaven off those golden locks, so who knows?

B79, you making the trip to Mayberry on saterday?  We'd love to have you there.

what are the thoughts on the salisbury/fisher game this weekend?  i think the fisher d has the chance to contain the gulls if buff st was able to hold them to 20 and just over 300 yds and wesley held them to 7 pts.  i believe i saw it mentioned that the gulls starting qb went down, that would be a plus for fisher too.  he was very good at running the triple option.  the gulls play a pretty strong d so this has the makings of a low scoring battle, which i also think favors fisher.  i know many of you have been critical of the offense so far, are they struggling that much?  can they get 20 on the gulls, i think they may need to to win.

Everything is lining up for Fisher...

Fisher is coming off the BYE week, Salisbury has to come up to WNY for the second week in a row, SU's QB is banged up and Fisher has one of it's best Defenses it's ever had...

It's up to them to take advantage of all of those factors, it's a big test even with all of that going in their favor...

The Fisher offense has to step up and be consistent one way or the other.  Either in the air or on the ground, they have to be consistent all game long and finish their drives unlike last year...

I think it's either going to be a close win for Fisher or SU runs over them again...

I like Fisher this week if the Salisbury QB is out. E8 teams know how to stop the triple option. It's just the level Salisbury plays at that's tough to beat. Without the starting QB though, that level is going to be more manageable. I think the East missed the chance to bury Fisher when they were struggling to put together 60 minutes early. If they win this game, I think they run the table

Bombers798891

We're three weeks from Fisher-IC, both teams are undefeated, and both teams have two winnable games coming up. Now, there's a good chance someone takes a loss prior to the matchup (Probably Ithaca), but it's certainly conceivable that both teams are 6-0.

I'll say it: That would be ****ing epic. It'd be like 2004/2005 all over again (Bill Struzzi!!!!!) I'd even ditch my customary cynicism for one week and talk some trash about Fisher if that would happen. Seriously, how can we make this happen?

fisheralum91

It does seem that if indeed the Sals. QB is down, that this is the time for Fisher to finally beat them.
It kills me to say it- but Im going to miss the game and broadcast.
Maybe my not paying attention will be a godsend and I dont jinx the alma mater!

AUKaz00

Does the noon start have any effect?  Fisher's earliest start this year was at W&J and the offense didn't have a drive of more than 4 plays until the 2nd half.  We're all creatures of habit, so are the Cardinals used to playing games at 4pm/7pm?  One more wrinkle to consider in what is easily the East Region Game of the Week.

Good question Kaz,
Until last week, Fisher looked slow out of the gate.
I would like to think that the bye week has something to do with fixing that.
Lets hope.
Game of the week for sure!

Wow...either that or I wasnt paying attention when I went on the West region boards......
