Bombers,
I agree,
Tho who is going to watch the Buff State UC game other than families and a few fans?
I see that it is a good regional game, I was just hoping that Fisher would be televised.

I can't find any listing for Audio or Viseo for Ithaca at Alfred.  Anyone have any insight or information?

Pep had heard that ICTV might cover the game. If that's true, they do a great job. But in checking the Ithaca College Football Schedule, the Alfred game is not listed so the EmpireTV will give you the video, and, if you don't mind hearing the action BEFORE you see it, WLEA (KaZ00 gave the link) is a good place to hear it called by long-time Saxon football voice Bob Codispoti.

Boards are quiet this week....got a couple of clashes on Saterday and no one's talking smack? Where's Gatto?

Pep is thinking Buff State, since the win over some team out West, has become the darling of Time Warner, much like Fisher appears to be the darling of the Rochester D&C... heck, the D&C gave Alfred State credit for the win over Buffalo State!  :o

Where the heck is AL-FERD, any-who?

I doubt Time Warner has any concept of national implications.

And honestly, I bet that's because a lot of CNY viewers don't *care* about national implications. Many of us do, because we're really into this stuff. But how many of their viewers will know who Salisbury is, or care that they're one of the elite teams in the country? Unless you're really into Division III football as a whole, I don't think it matters.

I think numbers come into play. I think if Time Warner would have marketed the as #7 vs. #9 (D3 Rankings) or #8 vs. #10 (AFCA coaches, I believe), I think it would have gained some attention by locals. For example, when or (if) I decide to watch non-local or a local team vs. out of state appointent for high school on any network, I look at rankings, star players, and history. With that being said, I think that with the many All-Americans, Player of the Year candidates, last year's de facto championship and possibly this year's as well, this could have been marketed to that extent. In addition to those reasons, the last time these two teams played at Growney Stadium, the game went to 4Ots. This game easily could have garnered some attention, just my opinion of course. I think it comes down to marketing, how much, I don't know.

ICTV, to my knowledge, does not do road football games. WICB, the student radio station, does however

Exactly that. Fans of the programs and family. And since Salisbury is in Maryland, I bet they have fewer fans in the TWC viewing area than either of UC/Buff State.

I wouldn't mind see Fisher/Salisbury either, but it's all about the eyeballs

I think your points are all valid, but you're a unique case in your level of appreciation of these things. I think it's all about low effort. Because most fans aren't invested into D-III or High school football the way you are, TWC is going to do what catches the most eyeballs with the least effort.

I think JoseQViper brought up a point similar to this a few years ago when talking about athletics as a whole. Sports fans tend to associate with other sports fans, and many of them struggle with the idea that a lot of people could not care less about the results of some game. I think a lot of that is going on here, except instead of talking about sports fans vs. non-sports fans this is about deeply invested fans vs. fans who only care about their local team.

We all care about the things you mentioned, the conference races, the all-americans, the national pedigree, and some of the great games in the history. But for a lot of people, I think it's just "Oh, [local team] is on. Nice."

It's the same theory I have about Cortaca. Sure, everyone shows up, but only because "Cortland sucks". They don't care how good the teams are, and honestly, half of them probably couldn't name either quarterback. But here's the major thing: They really don't care, and can't be made to care about all the things you mention.

I'll be at Coyer field watching the game...with a few friends (but no family members) ;)

TWCS's decision to do the UC-Buff State game does not have as much to do with viewership as you might think.

In fact, Utica will not even see the game until Noon sunday on replay. We are lumped in with the Syracuse Area here. They have a Big East contract and subsequently, they're going to get the most mileage they can out of that. There's a USF game on instead.

The thing is, viewership really does not drive the bus when TWCS does these D3 games. In fact, Buff State is likely paying a very, very hefty sum of money for this game to be televised. Although i am unsure of the amount, we do pay for that in Utica as well.  If you're a d3 school who is willing to pay their price, and TWCS has an opening, they'll entertain the idea.

That said, it might still have to do a bit with viewership because it helps TWCS make even more money, but at the end of the day, the school that books them and pays that price typically gets their wish.

Moose,
I live in New Hartford, and understand the viewership, but a college pay for TWCS to be there?
That I didnt know.
I did find it odd that the game of the week that was on 9/15/12 for ALL of upstate (the SYR and UTR areas included) was the Courage bowl.  I was able to watch my alma mater.
That said, Fisher paid for that coverage?
News to me.

That's really interesting. Thanks for the information.

I wonder though, if viewership comes into play from a team side of it. If TWC is going to make decisions based on who pays them the most, it's likely that they'd get more for a game featuring two teams who could benefit from a contest being televised than one.

Teams like Buff State/Utica/IC/Fisher can use a game on TWC to reach their fans/potential recruits in NY. Salisbury would derive no real benefit, because their recruiting is almost entirely based in the MD area, and I doubt they have many fans in the state either. Two checks have to be better than one for TWC. (I think I read it correctly that both teams pay, right?)
