Pep has learned from a Facebook post by his sister that: Kc Castro Hey, I'm Matt's sister and I know y'all are wondering what happened.... My brother had an enlarged heart which caused him to have a seizure and not make it... We wanna thank everyone for your prayers and thoughts!!! Thank you!

This situation is very tragic, my condolences to his family...when I played, they thought I had the same issue. Unfortunately, these types of problems happen to often in young athletes, wish there was better technology to detect and prevent these situations.

The technology is there.  Just not commonly applied to the college athlete demographic.

Which is worst, regardless of what Division these athletes play for, this should be look into further.

Played in the UC Football golf tournament over the weekend.  Nice time, a bit somber because of the loss of Dunn.
Nice group of guys.  I even talked to a few and ribbed them about the Fisher game(s).  They took it well- Told them I was a proud alum, but wouldn't give up a free round of golf on my buddy (a UC alum).

Probably going to be a hard fall for UC in general.

Look, if we can't endlessly debate Utica's arrival again this year, what's the point in anything anymore?

   Just a few questions...
1) We know losing Benkwitt will be rough for the offense.  How much more will it hurt the offense by having Penree and Fitzpatrick move on?
2) Blaise did a great job with SJF's defense.  Does it surprise anyone here that Utica's offense came along much faster than the defense?
3) Why hasn't Utica "arrived" yet?  Empire 8 too tough, lack of quality players, program still too young, etc?
Some of you have an amazing amount of Empire 8 knowledge...any opinions?

Academics?  4 year grad rate of 31% and a 6 year grad rate of 45%.  Moms and Dads will usually place more importance on education than football when paying tuition at a Private school.

fisheralum91

Especially when it is one of the most expensive in the league!

Who has only a 31% graduation rate? SJF or Utica? That's atrocious.

Conversation was clearly about Utica.

No need to get snippy, CardinalPride. You remind me of an old cat lady who is offended that I mistook a dog as one of her pets. When a thread discusses two schools over a series of semi-coherent posts, then no it isn't obvious which school stinks worse. Bah! I should have just Googled it. SJF has a 64% 4-year graduation rate.

Haha! +K

According to NCAA President's Council Oct. 31, 2012 (is this spooky or what?) review of voluntary reporting of graduation rates (and this goes back to 2005):

The third year of voluntary reporting produced data from 128 schools on the entering class of 2005 showing student-athlete graduation rates of 68 percent compared to 62 percent for the student body at those schools. The data also showed an Academic Success Rate (an NCAA-produced calculation that, unlike the federal rate, takes transfers into account) of 88 percent for student-athletes (83 percent for men and 94 percent for women). Those ASRs have been consistent among the three years of the voluntary reporting program in Division III.

But a more targeted review of the third year of data revealed a couple of concerns. One was in football, where student-athletes at the 128 reporting schools posted a federal graduation rate of 51 percent, compared with the 62 percent federal rate from the student body at those schools. The football student-athletes' ASR was 76 percent, but even that was 4 percentage points lower than the next-lowest men's sport (wrestling) in the cohort.

I cant wrap myself around that 31% Grad rate at UC.
That is beyond bad.
Is that figure accurate?
If so, UC has lots of 'splainin' to do.
Middlestates doesn't look too kindly on rates like that!

PBR...

Would be losing scholies if they were D-I with that poor of performance and put on probation to bring that figure up or more sanctions.
