Congrats to Utica on their victory over Union tonight. Dlip wishes you the very best. Great facilities and some very nice welcoming people.

Nice highlights from the Fisher game.

Love the new crossing route option to Kramer on the zone reads. If those LBers keep coming up on Miller and Fenti that look can be there all year.

Union's defensive game plan clearly was to stop Utica's run game, stacking the box, effectively
stopping Utica's (yawn) predictable first down off-tackle rush attempt.  Felt sorry for Utica's #1.
But it set the stage for third-down heroics by Butkiewicz et al.
Butkiewicz's accuracy was not as impressive as week one, but his completion percentage was affected by
several drops.
Utica's defense had too many stupid penalties for things like unnecessary roughness, one was on a third down stop.  Union kept the ball and scored a TD on next play.  Utica needs to develop some discipline in that regard.
Otherwise, and I know its' only been two games, Utica has some playmakers on D and the term "Utica Defense" doesn't seem like the oxymoron it has been the past few years.  Their linebacker and secondary play has been solid, and they had 9 sacks last night.
Utica's D will need to keep them in the game next Saterday....

Good job Buff St in the annual I 90 shootout. 42-40 win.
Over 1000 yards of combined offense. Defenses need not apply. Brockport went from "D of the week " " D of the weak".
Buff st  598 yards of offense (8.3 yards per play !) Brockport 546 yards of O..7.5 yards per play.
Kacz  385 yards passing..89 yards rushing. Bport rookie QB Stoldt 414 passing yards 5 TDs and 0 INTs !
Bport RB Nichols 82 rush yards and 5+ per carry.  Buff st RB Rich Pete steps up with 105 yards rushing and 9.5 yards a carry. wow.
Bports 2 top receivers 100 + each in receiving yards. Buff st rec Mike Doherty 200 + receiving yards( but no TD).
Wow..just a battle of attrition..again it seems.
Congrats to Bengalsfan and Buff St fans. Next week Brockport hosts Alfred under the lights.
Tough pill to swallow for Lancaster native Bport HC Jason Mangone..his offense was lights out again..but now as HC.."his defense" got gashed.

PS..Buff state has already clinched the fictional "Tri SUNY Cup" by already beating Cort and Bport. Sorry..I don't count Morrisville. Maybe when they give up less than 50 points to Hartwick.

Thanks D3!! A wild game and 1 that kept you in you seat till the final whistle.

I know that my beloved BENGALS will have to play much better next week or they are 2-1. It seemed like our defense had at least 1 penalty on every drive. Brockport QB Stoldt is 1 dangerous dude! I doubt that we will see a better QB this season!

I wish our basketball team could duplicate the footballs team sweep of Brockport and Cortland. Those 2 basketball teams swept us (times 2) in SUNYAC play last season.  :-[

Time to start working on the Wisconsin-Whitewater game plan. They were off this week so something tells me that they have a few new things up their sleeves. The Buff State crowd was the best I've seen in 5 years. Hope they duplicate that this weekend!! ;)

They had two weeks last year and was at home.

I see that Salisbury is only receiving 5 votes in the most recent top 25 poll.  It's funny because they lost to Wesley in the last minute of the game after Wesley scored a touchdown on 4th and 21.  The chances of that happening have got to be quite low.  So one unlikely play is the difference between them receiving 5 votes and them probably being ranked in the top 20 again.

I think I heard mention on the podcast of how Wesley was without one of its top players.  That shouldn't be an excuse.  Salisbury could throw out excuses too like how they are breaking in a new QB to the system.  Was Salisbury missing any players?  You are the team that you put on the field and the margin between Wesley and Salisbury at this point in the season clearly doesn't appear to be that wide.  There is already a precedent set with Franklin being ranked 13th despite being 0-2.  Not sure how that same logic can't apply here.  Not saying Salisbury should be ranked 13th since Mount Union and Butler collectively are likely more talented this year than Wesley and Christopher Newport...but only 5 votes?  Seriously?

You are likely correct that had they beaten Wesley they would be ranked, but since they are 0-2 it's not like the Wesley loss is the only blemish on the record. Sooner or later you have to actually WIN games to get votes, not just play them close.

Almost all of Salisbury's drop occurred after losing to CNU, which was a big surprise. That really shifted the perception on Salisbury and they are going to have to earn it back with wins, not close losses. Franklin's opening two losses didn't really change the perception of Franklin. They were expected to lose both those games, probably by more than they did. Therefore the perception of Franklin didn't suffer the way Salisbury's perception suffered.

Once you end up in that receiving votes area, there are a lot of teams you are competing against for limited attention. Most of those RV teams are winning their way in, Salisbury is in the process of losing their way out. They need to get the ship turned around and most likely will. CNU, despite beating both Salisbury and an RV H-SC, still barely cracked the top 25. How much closer should Salisbury be?

Upstate

It's still pretty early in the season Boobs but the loss to CNU killed them. Last year they blew out CNU and lost a close one to Wesley and were still in the top 10 after 2 weeks. I do think CNU is going to be pretty good this year so that loss will not look bad when all is said and done. I think they'll be back in the top 25 soon enough though, they're so well coached and too good of a program not to be.

Salisbury's got to answer legitimate questions on that offense, IMO.

Last year, against CNU and Welsey they ran for 687 yards on 98 carries
This year, against CNU and Wesley, they ran for 296 yards on 80 carries.

Triple option teams have no margin for error on offense. If the option isn't working for whatever reason, you've got problems. And there's a difference between an injured player being out and installing several new guys to run a complex offense. These are problems that can go all season long, because it's not like you can turn to the passing game for help. Given the way these two games went, it's not hard to fault voters for wondering if this could wind up being a transition year for Salisbury on offense, and with it one of those 6-4 Springfield type seasons.

Thats encouraging! Hopefully we will be playing our "A" game!  ;)

Mr. Ypsi

On the other hand, last year you caught them totally by surprise.  While coaches always stress 'play them one at a time, and take every opponent seriously', I'm sure many of the players expected a total walkover.  No sneakin' up of 'em this year! ;)

I'd love to see the Bengals do it again, but I suspect UWW win win it by at least 3 scores.

They have been re running the Buff St Brockport game on Time Warner Sports . It's worth a watch. Exciting even if you know the score. Look for Buff St's "quad no backs" set they ran an entire series. Never seen that before. It's probably on once a day.

Didnt catch the game and havent a chance to check the other discussions but did you guys see the RPI kicker was 5-5 with a 50 yarder this weekend?

"Im not even mad, that's amazing".

Kudos to him. Looks like it would have been a nice game to watch but recently switched to the midnight shift and its been kicking my butt. Seems like RPI has AU's number. They always put together a decent team. Here's to hoping AU can sweep through E8 games!  :P
