Karma sniper in full out douche mode...

Like clockwork losing K every 24 hours...

I just noticed a new way of reckoning karma. Now we can see our + and -

I have no idea how to give or take Karma, never did understand or worry about it.

That is kind of awesome...

In short, one gains karma by making a post that is considered a good contribution to the D3 Boards. It can be for any reason, with particular insight or humor being the top two. In the case of a poster like LD11, the posts are often simultaneously insightful and humorous, and you will see his karma score shoot up because all of us reading applaud him.
One gets smited for making a post that others frown upon. Remarkably, a merely unpopular opinion isn't usually enough to be smited. You have to post something delusional and self-aggrandizing--like posting a video of your son and telling us he is being stalked by D1 school but will condescend himself to play D3. Or, you have to be a player pretending not to be a player and posting something stupid. Or you have to be simply completely clueless about D3 football but pontificate about your team being unjustly underrated. Getting political on a board is also a good way to get smited.

So when the karma sniper comes through, he is artificially skewing a poster's understanding of how much of a meaningful contribution he is making to the boards. Also, other readers will look at a guy's number of posts and karma to get an idea of how worthwhile a guy's opinion usually is.

I wrote down my Karma number during the summer because I noticed that it was dropping rapidly.  Since that day I had dropped about 150 Karma points which meant someone was going out of their way and smiting me each and every day.

fisheralum91

Honestly,
I don't think my karma has fluctuated much over +- 5 points in years!!

Utah, please post a picture of your post-it note from early in the summer with your original Karma points please.

I took a photo with my iphone.  Anyone know how to copy and paste here?

Thank you for the explanation Rev.  I obviously don't have a clue how to use the quote function either.  I came to the conclusion awhile ago that most posters on this site are far more linguistically adept than I am.  Probably why I build houses for a living, the vocabulary heard on most of my jobsites is definitely not acceptable on these boards.

Pep is thinking you're doing okay....now if you can add some alliteration to your posts, Pep will give you some applause. Pep prefers predominately "P" posts on Post Patterns.

Did anyone check out the link to the Versus rankings Keith McMillan has in his column?
Hilarious stuff.

Browsing eBay today and found this:

Apparently at Cortland, going undefeated in football in 1988 still allows for you to be, you know, defeated at football in 1988. I really want to buy this shirt

Nothing is better on these boards then when we get the privilege of "outing" a player pretending to be someone else!  I don't think it's happened in a while though...
We need some more of those!
Like fisheralum, my karma has not fluctuated much in years, but the again I usually am not witty, not insightful...:)

I'm not much for complaining about karma. I think these boards, by and large, contain good people (at least this board does), and if someone spends enough time here, they know who to avoid. But I do wish the karma sniper(s) would just knock it off and either contribute to the discourse in a meaningful way or just go away. Much like the politics board was shut down after it became a one-man show, if someone's coming in here as a non-active poster and just drilling people's karma, I wish they could be blocked. What this board could use is more people contributing to thoughtful discussion, not trolls sitting there clicking buttons. That's the downside to what you do.

And if on the off chance this karma sniper IS a regular poster, I just have this to say: Get over whatever perceived slight you have and move on. And honestly, if you're reading this and decide you're going to snipe me every day for however long, I say go ahead. I could care less what my K rating is, as the people who frequent this board know who I am and how I contribute. So do your thing, pathetic karma sniper.

I think Pat should just spill the beans and out the person.

I guess I always just assumed the sniper was an outsider. Now you have me all paranoid!

Pep likes to counteract any said Karma sniper's efforts by occasionally applauding all posters on a particular page. Anyone care to join Pep?
