Man, I've had a busy week, so this is my first time on the boards since posting the ERFP back on Monday and look at everything I've missed: karma delineation, Gatto reminiscence, and kicker talk!  That final point was all that Pep and I could think about during the 4th quarter on saterday (that's case-sensitive, folks!).  When RPI got the ball the last two times I truly believed they only needed to reach midfield in order to convert; Franks was kicking it that well.  Actually, his "worst" kick was the 50 yarder that barely crossed the bar as it descended (where was that dome Pep spoke of?!?).

As I told Pep after the game, not too long ago Alfred had a first-year QB start with a home loss and then rally back in the second half for a victory over a Jersey team the following week.  So, it seems destined that Scavo's career will parallel Secky's.  And how about Alfred's consistency at QB these past 6 years - Secky, Sopak, Scavo - all 5 letters long, starting with S.  Weird.

On Saxon Warriors (just not the new L'il Alf mascot)!!!
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

Not sure if anyone caught this or not but..................

2 Empire 8 players are on the D3 Football National Team of the Week

The 1st is (in alpha order)

QB Casey Kacz, Sr., Buffalo State
Kacz completed 74 percent of his passes (25 of 34) for 387 yards and a touchdown and ran for 74 yards of his own on 14 carries as Buffalo State edged Brockport State 42-40.

and the 2nd is

WR Kevin Francis, Sr., St. John Fisher
Francis caught six balls for 174 yards and two touchdowns including an 87 yard reception on Fisher's first play of the game in a 42-21 win against Washington and Jefferson.

Kudos to 2 members of our conference who got some well deserved recognition. If someone else posted this earlier and I missed it then please accept my apologies.

Pep / Kaz,

What are your thoughts on the Battle in Mayberry this weekend. If we ever come up with any sort of offense we may have a chance to do some damage, but as they say if the queen had balls she would be the king. In my NJAC Pick-Em I have Montclair getting 7.5. Our "D" is pretty good, but if you can put up (21) we could be in trouble. I took Alfred straight and Montclair with the points. Wouldn't it be funny to see a B-Port / Buff St. score. What are your thoughts?

Dave !!!
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

Pep is thinking it may end up like the only other meeting of the Saxons and Red Hawks...when the last AU team to finish with an unbeaten record (10-0) hosted the Red Hawks in the 1981 NCAA first round and lost, 13-12, in a defensive struggle.

Game Notes: http://saxons.alfred.edu/pressreleases/viewrelease.cfm?ID=8452

Thirty-two years later, both programs traditionally field solid defensive units. And, both programs are currently enduring the time-consuming process of trying to discover themselves offensively.

Aside from an indiscriminate penalty, the AU defense bent but did not break against RPI. Unfortunately, there's not much room for bending when the opponent has a kicker the likes of Andrew Franks who is a scoring threat anytime the Engineers cross midfield.

There's plenty of talent in the AU offense. Pep is hoping that the talent is utilized in such a way as to get the Saxons into some rhythm, which excepting last saterday's third quarter, didn't materialize. It always helps the pep band when we got rhythm.

Will you be in Mayberry saterday, Rams? If so, please stop by to say hello. Pep is easy to find in a crowd of 4,000....he's the one speaking loudly and beating a bass drum!

On Saxon Warriors! ....   and another round of +K for posters on this page!  ;D

On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!

Good stuff Dlip.  I used to get this information from the Ithaca website which produced a nice 2-3 page write up on next weeks game.  For some reason they haven't done one the last 2 or 3 years.  Too bad Ithaca College doesn't have any sports management/communication programs where students could contribute for something like th....oh wait, never mind.

Keep up the good work Dlip.

Indeed bengals...
I hate Bye weeks as well.
I like the fact that Fisher can heal up and get ready for Cortland, but they were on a roll.
Id rather stay hot and get a bye later in the season.
I know that is a scheduling nightmare, but hell, at least the bye didn't come in week one like it did in years past!

I still blame the 2010 season on the schedule. Fisher had a bye the first week of the season that year. That was before children for Mrs. Cards and I, so I went to a lot of games that year. I was at the last three games (AU, Frostburg, and Springfield) and I saw a tired team on the field. Especially against Frostburg and Springfield.

Fisher lost 2 of those last 3 games and didn't make the playoffs. They had a week off before the bowl game and blew the doors off RPI 56-13. I am not saying Fisher would have beat AU (10-3) or Springfield (9-2) if they had a bye in week 7, but I am sure a bye in week one didn't help.

This year the bye is a little later, but I really wish they had the bye before the Salisbury, IC, Utica, Buff State, AU finish...
GO FISHER!!!

JU, I love that stuff as much as you do, but honestly, I think we're exceptions to the rule. Ithaca does produce detailed game notes—I received some at the home opener—but I think the number of people truly interested in it makes it not worth the effort.

I also wonder if making those notes available to the public might open it up to various Title IX issues regarding equal promotion/publicity. Or at least some departmental squabbling over how certain teams are getting the short end of the stick.

Cards- that is exactly where I was going with that.
Im glad to have a week of rest- but would have loved to see it before that last stretch.
That said, here is hoping that we don't need to worry about getting rest, and mow right thru the rest of the season! ;D

Yea but it is the same info they are going to put in the game program, why not put it on the website 2 days before the game?  Is there still a gridiron report that the Park School does?  I would assume that would raise more Title 9 issues than a 2 page blub would.

I dunno.  Ithaca is a school with programs for students interested in sports management, sports info, TV/Radio, etc, etc.   And if you want to do some of those jobs at the college level, football is going to be somewhere that you need some experience.

I just somehow doubt they are not going them anymore because of Title 9 issues.  These blurbs should help the program.

And for crying out loud, put a damn picture of the stadium on the website!
