Thanks 91, that definitely needed clarifying.
It actually clarifies nothing. I know upstate NY is cold. I like the cold. I've wanted to live in Minnesota for a lot of years, but the wife isn't keen on the idea. I also know that folks up north laugh at the idea of Texas being cold and then are rudely welcomed by a cold front that redefines their understanding of Texas. Consider yourselves advised and take the advice as you will. ;)

I was born and grew up in San Antonio and can recall a Christmas day when it was 70+ degrees and a Christmas day when it was 30. In fact, it was the same day. When a "blue norther" comes down from Canada, Texans start looking for the heavy coats they neglected to buy in September.  :)

Looks like the game this weekend will be available on video and audio. I am not sure if Gene and Pete will be making the trip, but I am pretty sure I won't be. I love the idea of a quick flight to Texas, but I don't know...

This actually DID make me laugh. I know CRU fans love to talk about how everything is stacked against  their poor opponent every week and I know most of y'all could sell a cage to a lion, but.....it's gettin' even deeper than usual around here when you try to sell "Texas cold" as being worse than what we have up north.  Nice try tho... ;D

you misquote me. As far as worse goes you have that. We get cold in spurts you actually have long term cold to deal with it doesn't stay real cold here for very long. I'm saying just because you come from the tundra don't think you won't suffer in Texas.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Fair enough. The "consider yourself advised" line threw me off course of what you were trying to say. Perhaps you were just being considerate and let people know they may want to bring some warmer clothing options than they would think they need in Texas. Have fun bantering about the game this week, good luck to both teams, and no injuries!  ;)

Congrats to SJF on your playoff sucess. Good win today over Hobart.

To everyone making the trip to the Lone Star State from New York, enjoy your time in Central Texas. Lots of good Texas BBQ everywhere; Schoepf's BBQ in Belton is pretty good eatin', but don't fill up on it. The CRUthedral has some special food items that are only available at the stadium.

I recommend trying a Cru-dog. It is a hotdog shaped hamburger (best way to describe it) served on a Hawaiian bun topped by cheese. Good stuff. You might want to try the Slovacek Sausage as well. Blue Bell Ice Cream makes a special purple colored homemade vanilla ice cream exclusively for UMHB. Pretty tasty stuff. However, it looks the temp might be a little too chilly for ice cream.

Not a lot of hotel choices in Belton. Killeen has quite a few and Temple has added some in the past few years.  Killeen is about a 20/30 minute drive to the stadium, Temple 10/15. Salado is just 10 minutes south of Belton and has a couple of newer hotels - a Best Western and a Holiday Inn Express. Salado is well known for its arts and antique stores. My in-laws live there.

It seems most people fly into Austin, which is about an hour due south of Belton. Lots of hotel, eating and entertainment choices in the capital city

The weather looks to be less than ideal weather for SJF's visit to The CRUthedral. The extended forecast is calling for temps to be upper 40s with a 30% chance of showers. A little on the cool side for we Texans.

Safe and uneventful travels to all.

Thanks for all of the food choices.  This is the second best thing about traveling to Texas for Football.

Cardinal Pride

The Cardinals played John Carroll on a snow covered field, practiced all week in the first snow storm of the season up here and played Hobart in 30 degree temps with 15-20mph winds.  If the weather is poor this weekend I think it will favor Fisher.  They will  have 2 weeks of practicing and playing in worse weather than they will see in Texas.  The largest obstacle will be UMHB and that is enough.  The weather will not bother the Cards.

Kelly Boggs

I would agree with you on the weather, Cardinal Pride. While it can get cold in Central Texas -- by Texas standards -- chilly, nasty weather is far and few between. If the forecast holds as predicted -- upper 40s and chance of rain -- The CRU will have to really stay focused.

im not worried about the team. That's the coaches job. But I want the fans to enjoy the experience

You mean the game is not going to be at Cowboys Stadium ?
Then I'm not going.

Kelly Boggs

I also think nasty weather will likely impact attendance.

Some say The CRUthedral is D3's version of Jerry's palace.  ;D

Glad to hear it. Looking at the pics available of the Cruthedral the place looks legit. Great job with constructing a gem. I will probably end up listening/watching the game, so options are good. I don't know how well Fisher will travel to Central Texas, but hopefully there is enough alumni in that area, and parents making the trip to have a good group of supporters.

I think that no matter where you live, any weather that is 30 degrees colder than what you are used to is too cold!  It was 79 degrees today in east Texas.

I had family in the northern Denver suburbs for 7 years. They have a dry cold.  I was comfortable in shirt sleeves down to 40 degrees without wind and to 0 degrees in a jacket without wind. Not Texas!

Ill be listening to Peter and Gene on the way to Philly.
Good way to pass 5 plus hours of drive!
Tho - I do get animated during the broadcast....
Drive first.....listen second!  ;D
