I think they may be heading to the NJAC along with CNU and Wesley. It would only be right, since they have already added SVU. I think they will have a tough league (comparable to any other). However, Cortland State joining the E8 has been a long time coming. Very Interesting!

Took long enough. The Cortaca games will have a major extra spark to them in the coming years.

Pep heard that Frostburg State would go, along with perhaps Wesley, to the NJAC. No word on Salisbury State, which means they'll likely continue in the E8.

Let's see now, Buffalo State joined in 2012, Brockport State joins in 2014, Cortland State joins in 2015....any word on Morrisville State? ...and would that mean that the E8 would accept Alfred State were they to want in?

Things getting interesting...

I think Cortland saw that they might be running out of options if they didn't accept at this point.  It seemed clear that they didn't want to join a few years ago, but with travel expenses, it only makes sense to join the E8.  I would also say at this point the E8 is going to get 2 teams in the playoffs every year unless the 2nd place team is a stinker.  But this also only leaves 1 non league game, so there will be less cross-region games.

Also, the Ithaca schedule is out for 2014.  Only difference is that Brockport replaces Moravian.  Union stays on the schedule as the opener.

Well at some point you might see what the NEFC did and have the E8 split into two different conferences to maximize chances for a bid.  But seeing that the current E8 does pretty well with the current system, expansion to Morrisville and Alfred State doesn't make too much sense in my opinion.

And does each SUNY AD have the power to join/leave conferences, or is that up to some sort of consensus by the state?

Assuming Salisbury stays, this is at least the second best conference in Division III after the WIAC, isn't it?

That's a tough call. There is so little cross over that it is near impossible to make those types of comparisons with conviction. I think it is pretty clear that it is an elite conference on a national scale.

I'd like to see Lacrosse make the same move. Cortland plays a bear of an out-of-conference schedule, mainly because the SUNY teams don't push them. Plattsburg has been good lately, Geneseo has had good teams in the past, but that's about it in recent memory. Can you imagine a lax conference with Cortland, RIT, Stevens, IC, Naz, and several more competitive teams? That would be the best D3 lax conference in the nation.

True dat....the only result we can go by is the 2012 shocker: Buffalo State 7, WI-Whitewater 6.  :o

Very surprised the Bombers don't have a PA team on the schedule, because I know they recruit there heavily.

It's a strange breakdown, five of the first seven at home before closing with three road games.

Honestly, I'd love to see Frostburg leave the conference. The game is far away, there's zero history, and they stink. With 10 teams in the conference now, they bring nothing to the table

KS does not think Wesley will join the NJAC.  Wesley probably would not want to deal with a 100 player roster restriction.  Not sure of the distance to Frostburg but Salisbury would make sense in the NJAC, the longest road trip would be Willy P and that is maybe 3.5 to 4.5 hours.  CNU would be regoddamndiculous to Willy P, that would be an 8 to 10 hour road trip most likely.

Dan, in the mid-late 1990s, when the SUNYAC did not sponsor men's lacrosse, there was a "Super Six" conference in existence consisting of Cortland, RIT, Nazareth, Ithaca, Alfred and Hartwick. There were no AQs then, and no conference tournament, but it did exist for a while. The SUNYAC starting sponsoring the sport again in 2000.

Pep is wondering whether the addition of Buffalo State in 2012, Brockport State in 2014 and Cortland State in 2015 as football affiliates will have any repercussions among the Empire 8 full member fold. Can't believe the decision made a few years back to accept state schools into the conference as football affiliates was unanimous. Just a thought. Sorry to interrupt the lively discussion here.

The only repercussion(s) that I would guess would be that this could almost guarantee that the Empire 8 will have at a minimal, two teams per year, which is bad for other conferences that may think or believe they should have two teams (which only a few could argue). Then there's the East region having lesser reputable teams to qualify for the playoffs, especially since Cortland State, which usually grabs a bid for the NJAC is going to be fighting for a spot with SJF, Ithaca, Salisbury, and Alfred in most years. Also, you never know how Brockport is going to play in any given week.
