'Tis a beautiful morning in Mayberry as the Saxons host the Husson Eagles, a revived program under original founder Gabby Price...and the Price is right! Saxons will face an Eagle squad that's been bolstered in the off-season by a couple of University of Maine transfers as the Bangor, Maine school is expected to contend for the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference crown after improving to 5-5 in 2013 from a 3-27 start to this decade.

Pep is hoping the Saxons do not take Husson lightly. But Pep senses the team is ready to hit someone other than themselves...finally. It should be a good competitive game. Kickoff at 12 noon. Pep will be there, surrounding himself with about ten AU football fans armed with instruments.

On Saxon Warriors!
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Officially on the way to Growney. I hope everyone enjoys game day. Should be a great day.

GO FISHER!!!

wesleydad

To all my E8 friends, good luck this weekend in your games and this season.  Looking forward to see how it all plays out this year in the E8.  Does Salisbury have 1 more run in them before they leave?  We will see.  I will be at the Wesley/Salisbury game next week and I will fill you in on what I see after.  Thank goodness it is finally Saturday.

Good win by Fisher today...
Slow start....great finish!
Well done Cards!

The refs at the Fisher game made some horrendous calls.  They really knew how to kill any rhythm to the game as well.  I think Fisher had twice as many penalties as Otterbein, so nobody can accuse them of some home cooking.

Our wide receivers looked great.  Their defensive backs just couldn't compete.  Our running game was solid as well... I think we are in line for another decent year offensively.  I also like that they are lining up under center again instead of the constant shotgun read option.

Otterbein had a vanilla offense, so it is hard to tell how our pass defense will hold up against a quarterback who can actually throw the ball downfield.  Outside of the two big run plays I thought the defensive unit did an outstanding job.  Otterbein's first touchdown only came to be because of two crap calls by the refs to keep the drive alive.

Overall I thought it was a good first showing against a decent football team.

Boob- couldnt get a feel from listening to the game how the refs were - but doing the 50/50 radio/video feed the refs looked suspect on a few calls for sure.
All in all tho- good win!

Just got back from Growney.

A real up and down game by Fisher. Started out on fire then cooled off but they ended the game extremely well! Defense got caught off guard by the "wildcat" on that long TD but they missed a bunch of tackles on that long run. Other than that they played really well defensively!

Just like clockwork you can count on at least 4-5 unsportsmanlike/taunting fouls by Fisher. That has been a problem for quite a while and it looks like it's not going anywhere.

The O-Line needs some work, Fenti was pressured way too many times today. Once that transfer from UB went in at RT it looked to help. RBs weren't really given many holes/seams to work with but they got positive yardage on most of their runs.

They have two weeks to tighten things up at least!

Cards I didn't see your PM until just now.

The lack of discipline drives me nuts.
Personal fouls/stupid penalties are just unnerving.
Lets hope that gets cleaned up!

Great day for the Empire 8 so far today! All teams have won their non-conference games so far.

Brockport looked good from what I saw on the video against a not very good Oberlin team. We'll see how it goes as the season progresses.

Hurray for football!

No worries Upstate. I am just getting back, and have some thoughts. I was frustrated with how Fisher played during the game, but with time to think about it, I think it was a lot better win then it felt like. Fisher's defense was good against a so/so offense. The first drive was aided by two calls that I would question (taunting was the one I really didn't get). The second touchdown was on a long run with a lot of missed tackles and a missed block in the back from where I was sitting.

On offense they looked out of sorts at times, but they did control the game and moved the ball well at times as well.

All in all a good start against a fairly good team. I think Otterbein is better than last year, and despite all the struggles Fisher still won by 23.

Had a chance to talk with some of the OC folks in the park and ride, and they were all a great group. Lots of fun, and we're enjoying their time in Rochester.
GO FISHER!!!

a respectable opening win for SJF Cards.  Otterbein is a respectable program and tested them.

SJF showed a few flashes of what might be possible -- I've got a good feeling in '14.

Side note: saw a little bit of the Buff State v Cortland game on TV -- crazy game, Buff State had zero points at end of 1Q.

Cortland choked.

Just read the write up to the Buff St vs Cortland game....

If you're going to run backwards when you're up by three why not just run out the back of your own end zone???

Huge choke job by coaches and the guy running backwards...

Why not roll out and chuck a Hail Mary out of bounds? Snap it to babin and he'd outrun everyone. Heck just punt it normally. What are the odds of a 90 yard return td?
