It would be nice if Hobart and Fisher were regulars on the schedule much like Ithaca and Cortland.  I would have loved if they were the courage bowl participant regular after the U of R exited stage left.  Personally I feel like Hobart is more of a rival to Fisher than most any other school.  The Ithaca vs Fisher games have certainly produced some classic games, but there just feels like more emotion involved when it's Hobart and Fisher.
It could be a good thing for Hobart , as a strong regional rivalry makes sense in addition to LL regulars...as far as parity of talent, I think Hobart is losing some excellent talent after this year that will be almost impossible  to replace( Tyre Coleman and Ali Marpet are extraordinary players at D3 level) and undefeated regular seasons can't go on forever...already lowering expectations for a future Fisher game :)

Are you pulling a Bombers there?
Not quite that far ......glad to have JHU at home.... come on E8 fans, get on the Bart bus, we need the support, students will be home for Turkey..... balmy 39 degree forecast..

Count me in on the Statemen's bandwagon (for Saturday). I'll actually be at Hobart this Tuesday for the Buff State BENGALS game  (ill be cheering for the BENGALS). Hobart's the only rep from NYS still alive so its a no brainer!

Make NYS state proud!!

Go Statemen's....

and

Go BENGALS (for Tuesday) ;)
Bart could use an infusion of Bengal blood for the game...Thanks for the support...Good luck in the basketball game, Hobart handled Ithaca pretty well in the first game of the year

I actually saw a couple of clips from that game earlier this weekend. Tommy Campion averages 2.4 pts a game last year and starts out with 21 (6 of 8 from beyond the arc?)?. I know many had predicted that, with All-American Bonney and Gibbons gone, this would be a down year for the perennial ( 3 yrs in a row) NCAA post season participant. Something tells me that Hobart has another NCAA run in them this year, even with a new coach.

FWIW. Maybe a good omen for this weekend..... 2 years ago my BENGALS came to Geneva for an early season contest on Nov 20th. Many BENGAL supporters couldn't help but notice that your football team was practicing, under the lights that evening (after our team football teams season was over and Wide receiver Ryan Carney was now on the basketball team). A quick search of Hobarts website showed that they, Hobart, were preparing to host #13 Wittenberg in the 2nd round of the NCAA's. That weekend Hobart won 35 - 10.  :) Oh and that night the BENGALS won 80 -74.  ;D

Go STATEMENS

and..

Go BENGALS! ;)

What about MIT?  :-)
All the support goes to MIT for the game, rooting for Wesley if they get past these  pesky engineers.
Comparison of schools Endowment: MIT , 12.4 Billion(need more stadium seating, fewer labs/ libraries), Wesley 6 million(nice stadium)
                                          SAT(75%): MIT, 1570(out of 1600) and Wesley 940
                                      Football     :   Both undefeated against D3 schools....should be close..Right?

Bartman with the intelligence shot at Wesley!!

Question for you Bartman.........

A man who came from nothing but love and hard work, son of Italian immigrants, average athlete, below average student..............

54 years old, net worth of $2.7 billion dollars (richest and most giving man whom I can personally call a friend).............

Made most of his fortune prior to buying an NFL team.............

Name this man and the Ivy League school (trick question) from where he received multiple degrees.................

Give up??

Steve Bisciotti..................and that Salisbury State College, bachelors degree only ;)

Where you go might help you get in many doors that you would never get the chance to open................

What you do day in and day out keeps you there.

I've fired many Ivy League grads in my day for many reasons, including lack of dogged effort given a sense of entitlement in some cases (the silver spoon 'Tad' types)

One of the smartest men I've ever met in my life (besides Steve) graduated from that bastion of higher learning.............PA's Bloomsburg State College.

MIT should be able to crush Wesley by outthinking them??

I think not ;)

P.S. Google John Thain (MIT) and his time at Merrill Lynch.................and the $62,000 gold legged toilet for his office and the $200K rug, among other things. That's inbred entitlement :D

I suspect it was intended in jest, but yeah, that was a bit cheesy (spoken as an MIT alum/fan myself).  The MIT card is to be reserved for when it's truly needed, which it isn't on the gridiron (or hardwood).

I think I can safely say that Wesley will be the toughest opponent by far in the history of our program, and will give our guys the opportunity to match up against the very best D3 has to offer.  Our seniors who were recruited by D1 and D2 schools will have the opportunity to play against competition of that caliber (to judge by Wesley's final regular season game), and our underclassmen will learn a lot very quickly from the experience regardless of the outcome (now I'll play the MIT card: we're used to learning a lot very quickly ;D).

This season has been a wild and exciting ride for the Engineers, and everyone up here's looking forward to Saturday at high noon.  MIT's not just a basketball school any more!

rlk,

I have seen Wesley against Rowan and Salisbury and have watch them for sometime and with their result against HS-C this past weekend, I can't see this game being close (at all), I was very upbeat with MIT all season, however as many already know, Wesley is a different animal and as far as learning experience for the players, it is going to be learning experience for the coaching staff as well regarding the type of athletes that get recruited to each perspective school. I can't remember where I read it, but Wesley has been playing awesome and it all started in the second quarter in their game against Mount Union last year.

boobyhasgameyo

I think it's great that MIT has had such a landmark season.  Plus I love Cambridge.  But unfortunately that game likely won't be close.  I could see Wesley winning this one somewhere in the realm of a 60+ margin.  Unless they call off the dogs and play ultra conservative in the 2nd half, in which case it could be more like a 35 point differential.  That wouldn't be unheard of for them to do.

No fault of MIT.  They'll just be playing a different class of football and this could be the year Wesley makes it to the championship game.

boobyhasgameyo

Whoops.  Guess I was beaten to that punch.

No question that Wesley is a completely different beast from the likes of everyone we've played thus far.  Playing even a middling D1 FCS team to a standstill testifies to that.  I'm more knowledgeable about basketball than football, and I'm aware of how infrequently even a top D3 team beats even a weak D1 team (about 10 years ago a ranked Carnegie-Mellon barely beat Princeton, which at the time was by far one of the weakest D1 teams in the country), and even coming close is a rarity. Nevertheless, it won't be decided on the blogs and message boards, but in 60 minutes on the field.  Whatever the final score may be, I am confident that the Engineers will do it, like anything else, the MIT way -- all out, and to the absolute best of their ability.

Getting to the point we've gotten is a spectacular achievement on the part of Coach Martinovich, his assistants, and the team.  We were expecting a good season but nobody expected 10-0.

Two fun facts here:

1) I played for another super-nerdy team that played Wesley in the playoffs (in 2006, when Wesley's ascendance to power was still in its infancy), in a similar position to this one - a favorable first-round draw gave us a chance to win in round 1 and have the honor of visiting Dover for round 2.  Talent disparity notwithstanding, it will be a fantastic experience - I thought the Wesley gameday experience was one of the more exciting D3 atmospheres that I've seen.  I expect that MIT will come out, play hard, and enjoy it.

I know it's cheesy to talk about moral victories and games that are decided before kickoff, but that's the deal here.

2) In a related story, I was a student at CMU when the aforementioned CMU upset of Princeton happened.  I don't think it's particularly germane here - as you certainly know, basketball is a much different sport than football and IMO, it's actually far easier for a small-school basketball team to beat a big-school one - but a fun memory.

Amended my post for clarity, as Wesley has played a number of very fine academic institutions in the playoffs over the years.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

JM.....hold on partner...no intention to offend either MIT or Wesley...just interested in the marked differences between these two institutions and the beauty of D3 football bringing them together in the playoffs, and yet it all means nothing on the field of play Saturday . By the way , I get the entitlement thing as neither  of my grandfathers attended college, and I am very proud of their legacies...
I used to drive by John Thain's 20 acre fortress in Rye with barbed wire on the perimeter to keep those non-MIT grads out ;D.
As far as football, I love the underdog(except when it's Hobart), so I will be rooting for David MIT and their computerized sling shot to take down the Goliath Wesley......and if MIT does not prevail, I will switch my loyalties to Wesley against the other Goliaths in the semi and final rounds

Totally agree.
Lets just hope that the QB situation gets solved!

Matt Naton has one more year left and he should be fine.  He has played well when called upon. I don't know if they have a young guy in the fold, if not really need to recruit a QB and LB's.

Naton coming off a pretty serious knee injury a few weeks ago does have a lot of time for recovery.  He is a good QB.  Last year against Buff St. he led the team to victory and had a pretty good day stat-wise.  The Naton to Nigolian will be a dangerous one in the coming year.

The views expressed in the above post do not represent the views of St. John Fisher College, their athletic department, their coaching staff or their players. I am an over zealous antagonist that does not have any current connection to the institution I attended.

Nigolian missed a large portion of the 2012 season I believe it was due to a nagging knee injury.  He still has another year of eligibility.

Shoot.  If Nigolian comes back then next year just got a whole lot brighter for Fisher.  The offense was completely different without him.  To the point where I feel like Fisher would still be playing this weekend if he were healthy.
