Hmmmmm, the Fisher posters are coming out of the woodwork...guess Pep has his alma mater to thank for that!

I couldn't help but notice that too!  Hopefully they will stay around for the next 3 weeks. Always good conversation with those guys!!

Go BENGALS

Oh yes, Pep. I meant to congratulate you and your Saxons on the dominating win. After scoring 28 points in the 2nd quarter to make the score 35-13 at the half, they were able to stifle Brockport in the 2nd half by Forcing turnovers and going on long drives. AU held the ball for an amazing 23:32 in the second half, with drives of 6:45 and 7:07 included. I watched most of the game and Alfred really impressed me with how they were able to control the game to put it away.

Good luck to AU in the upcoming lottery that is the E8 championship.
And Magicman: What are you doing over here on the football boards? Haha! Hoping the Saxons can equal last year's fun ride into the E8 Tourney...won't be long now before it all gets started. Pep recalls the Plattsburgh State football Cardinals as they played Alfred when Sam Sanders was head coach after Yunie retired.

The Magic 1 is sort of lost until November 14th when SUNYAC hoops begin. If lucky you may hear from him again until the 17th when his Cards travel to Clarkson (and I have not doubt that he will make that westward trip).  Fear not Pep. In a couple of weeks you will have to come to the basketball boards to find him! ;)

I'm never lost, you, of all people should know that. I replied to this post over on the SUNYAC hoops board where it belongs.

LMAO.. I'm gonna have to get over there soon enough buddy!!  (p.s. wait till you see what Buff State has this year!!! ;) )

Oh heck, why not? Now, considering this all plays out as you've proposed and given the following E8 Tiebreaker Criteria, who gets the AQ?

Football Tiebreakers

The team with the highest wining percentage in conference play will be named the Empire 8 Champion and will earn the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament. In the event of a tie, all tied teams will be named co or tri- champions. The following criteria will be used to determine the E8's NCAA automatic qualifier: (in the instance of a three or more way tie, once one team is eliminated by a tie-breaker, the remaining teams will begin the tie-breaker process anew starting with the first criteria):

1. Head-to-Head results.

2. Results vs. lowest ranked conference teams (6th, 5th, etc) based on final season standings.

3. Results versus common non-league opponents (All teams must have played the same opponent).

4. Fewest overall losses (Minimum of 9 games).

5. The team's overall strength of schedule (as determined by the NCAA Overall OWP, opponents' winning percentage; not OOWP, the opponents' opponents' winning percentage).

Pep...LOL..I saw that fly as well..I thought it appropriate considering it was Halloween. I saw nothing on the news about a giant rampaging fly..could of been a "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast revisited.
I can't hear the announcers for some reason  and it's OK with me.
Cortland gets the week off for to prepare for their one shining moment vs Ithaca to seal the deal. Cliché of the week alert.....anything can happen in a rivalry game.
I'll wade into the Ithaca offense conversation..even though I lack regular Ithaca posters knowledge.  Obviously when Butterfield was there the O took care of itself because they ran the veer option and had the players to do it. When Welch took over Ithaca looked for a different way to innovate  ...they went out and researched the West Coast offense  and were one of the first D3 teams to run it. Angelichio came aboard and maximized it. It was unique and ahead of the curve for teams in the area. Now with no huddle spread offenses being the newer thing...Ithaca's offensive style seems stale. Do they have the horses up front and RB talent to continue to run west coast style offenses (it may not be west coast..not sure anymore) but it wasn't no huddle. Even Cortland has gone to a no huddle. Maybe it's time for a philosophy change on offense.

Boys,
I had Fisher dead buried and flowers wilted.
The fact that we are even having some THOUGHT of a conference win was unimaginable.

The way I look at this now is that Fisher wins out and most likely gets an ECAC bid.
A GREAT result from the travesty that was the beginning of the 2015 season!

I am not sure how I would feel if Fisher won  the E8 outright honestly. I would obviously love a league championship, and would want to see them advance, etc. However, in some ways it would be a shame that after all the talented teams Fisher has had this one winning the AQ outright? Makes me feel a little dirty.

But, at the end of the day I guess they don't ask how, they ask how many...
GO FISHER!!!

You know, I'm trying to think who actually started the West Coast style offense at IC, and it started pretty much in 1993 I believe.  Ron Smith was the QB, and from what I remember, some option was run in 1993, and maybe even in 1994 when Greg Murphy was the QB.  It wasn't all option but there was some.  In 1995, when Weidman  became the QB, there was no option.  I think IC got a steal with him, and they just didn't know how to use a tall QB like him who was your typical Pro-style QB who maybe could have played at the 1-AA level.  This is when I think they decided to go West Coast 100% of the time, and I think much of that came from Welch, and an assistant from Rowan named Robert Jones (All NJAC TE for Glassboro State in the 1980s).  Robert Jones new his stuff, and had some help from line coach Larry Czarnecki (who had more football knowledge than any coach I've ever talked to, that guy is awesome).  Angelichio actually coached the LBs with Blaize doing the Dline, and Ray Laforte as the DC.

Anyway, no Ithaca does not have the horses to run the West coast offense anymore.  I've talked about it a bunch of times with that fullback simply getting in the way on pretty much every run play.  Like I said before (as did you), Ithaca needs a change on offense that much is clear.

I'm not entirely sure how the 1st tiebreaker (Head to Head play) works. If it means the best record against the tied teams then Utica and Fisher are out since they were 2-3 against the other 5 teams. Buff State, Cortland and Alfred were all 3-2 against the other 5 teams.

If that holds true (and I'm not sure that it does) then it's back to head to head play among the 3 remaining teams. Since Cortland beat Alfred, and Buff State beat Cortland and Alfred beat Buff State, the next criteria..how the teams fared against the lowest ranked teams would be used since there are still 3 teams tied. That would eliminate Buffalo State since they lost to the last place team Hartwick (and the scenario of 6 teams ending up with a 5-3 record means that Hartwick ends up with a 1-7 record and sole possession of last place) while Alfred and Cortland both lost to Ithaca.

Now that we are down to just 2 teams then tiebreaker number 1 comes back into play and the head to head result would leave Cortland, who defeated Alfred, as the winner of the automatic qualifier.

That's my best guess, now all you guys can rip that apart. ???

Where does the 5th factor enter in?

5. The team's overall strength of schedule (as determined by the NCAA Overall OWP, opponents' winning percentage; not OOWP, the opponents' opponents' winning percentage).

This will likely change but has anyone checked out the national SOS rankings? FOUR members of the Empire 8 among the nation's top 8?
2. Fisher 3. Morrisville 4. Alfred 8. Cortland 24. Buff State 25. Hartwick 42. Utica 49. Brockport 108. Ithaca.

Congratulations to AU's A.J. Licata for being named to this website's "Team of the Week" off his outstanding performance against Brockport State Saturday:

LB A.J. Licata, So., Alfred
Licata had 16 tackles (eight solo, two for loss and a sack) and an interception in Alfred's 35-13 win at Brockport. He spearheaded a defense that held Brockport standout tailback Dan Andrews, who came in averaging 157 yards rushing per contest, to just 56 yards on 15 carries.

Way to go, A.J.!
